Title: I thank God for... (insert here)
Post by: tbombz on May 29, 2015, 11:46:58 PM
Hey everybody.

I would like this to be a thread where we post what we are thankful for.

And I want it to be open to everyone, both Christians and unbelievers too.

And, yes unbelievers, in this thread, you can thank God for whatever your grateful for.

That means if your thankful for something that is sinful, go ahead and thank God for it anyways.

If your thankful for your Atheism, or for your pornography, or for your Marijuana, go ahead and thank God for it.

I would just like everyone to post up some gratitude to The Lord, whatever it is your grateful for.

Hopefully Man Of Steel will sticky this thread. You unbelievers can have some fun with this if you want to, but mainly i would like everyone to post things that they are sincerely thankful for. Whatever it is.

The one thing I would say is that we all agree on one thing: that we are thanking the source and cause of all existence, and we are calling that source and cause 'God'.

I will start....

I thank God for GetBig   :)

I thank the Doctors for fixing my medical condition that I was born with.
I did not know that you were born with a medical condition, SF. Sorry to hear about that!

Glad to hear that the Doctor's were able to fix it.  :)

(but .. just a reminder... we are thanking God, not human beings. I know that you do not believe in God as the Bible describes Him, and for the purposes of this thread, that's just fine. For the purpose of this thread, we are just thanking God in the sense of "That which is responsible for the ultimate cause and source of all existence".)

Thank you. Overall, the problem is fixed, though I experience side effects from medical condition.

I know, I was just being silly. I will steer clear of this thread ;)

Turns out, suppressing God is impossibly easy. Remembering to breathe takes more effort. No shit. I mean, If I didn't already know better ... yeah?

So much harder for a guy like you to suppress doubt is what I'm saying. But you knew that.

(Enjoy your cookie, champ. Totally earned it.)

I get what you're saying.

I think it's progressively easier to suppress God once you're further and further and further removed from him.   I've lived that out myself....it's a slippery slope.

I used to have many doubts....absolute doubts that lingered for years and years.  Those doubts mounted and compounded as time went on.  Eventually the doubts transformed into excuses I would use to engage in more and more sin (ex: pornography, smoking, drinking, anger, lust, lying, gossiping, partying) and suppress God more and more.   Give a lie enough time to simmer and a person will eventually convince themselves that the lie is now truth.

Finally I surrendered to Christ in a moment of personal turmoil and the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit filled me, surrounded me, changed me and has never left me.   I've experienced many other divine encounters that further eliminate my former doubts.

There are far more nominal Christians than the genuine article so many folks never experience God like I have because they aren't true believers.

I suppose I needed to be shook up more than others in order to get my head right.

Now, that isn't to suggest to you must have divine revelations like I have to be a genuine Christian.

There are actually millions that have had experiences like I have, but there are millions of believers that haven't yet their faith is unwavering and stronger than mine in some cases.

I would say that one of the experiences I've had is definitely uncommon, but within my own circle of influence (family and friends) several others have had similar experiences so it's hard to measure.

I would agree that in general my experiences are uncommon, but as I said there are many, many, many folks that could validate (and have validated) what I've experienced based on their own experiences.

Sure I can.  I don't offer any of it as proof for anyone else, but it certainly is for me.  Just something to consider if my opinions and character are valued.

Ok, so I had a bad accident in 2010.  Almost died.   God found me after that accident and changed my life.

So it took many months to recover, but I did.  Finally stepped foot in the gym again and I was a bit humbled for the first time in many years.

I prayed and pushed through and out of nowhere an older man (60ish) approached me.  He was in great shape, handsome, white hair, white beard/moustache, tan, blue eyes, roughly 6'5" and probably 275lbs...solid.

I had headphones on and hadn't interacted with anyone....hadn't even made eye contact with anyone.  Keep in mind, when my headphones are on my head in the gym virtually non one ever approaches me.....ever.  This man randomly came up to me, I removed my headphones and he said, "You just keep doing what you're doing and all will be fine."  He went on to say, "I spoke with a man a few days back.  He is 88 years old and a Green Beret and he told me that it's what in your heart that matters.  So you keep doing what you're doing.  Have a great day."

I was highly encouraged and felt blessed.  The man then walked behind me and I sat there for a second and turned back to look at him and he was gone.  I looked all around and this dude was gone.

Keep in mind we were at the front/centerish part of a large Gold's gym and in that second he couldn't of casually walked (or even run) away out of sight.  He vanished.

I'm convinced he is an angel of the Lord sent to encourage me in those moments.  I never saw him before in the gym and have never seen him since.   It was cool.

I am grateful for every breath of life I am blessed to experience on this beautiful world He has created. I cannot count my blessings, I am not worthy...But I appreciate all that I have (both the good things in life as well as the struggles as I feel one can benefit from adversity just as much as good fortune.)

For the blessing of the fact that He told us not to worry about what we are going to eat...

Quote
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

In the KJV its stated "and all these things shall be added unto you". And yes thats what I can testify myself, and I also know people who first lived without God. And did even steal, where thief's, but never got lucky with their money. Needed to steal because they couldn't get work. Always negative. And now they are converted/repented and live with God and work is being thrown at them they are never short on money and food!

Don't worry, trust God through Jesus Christ  :) And no thats not an prosperity gospel, it are the literal words from Jesus Christ himself! who came from God!

To seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness...

You could have made that choice at any time.

I haven't read a single tweet he's ever made.  Never had twitter and haven't been on social media in 4 years.

Life is great.

Turn off the news, enjoy your life.  My life has improved 100% since i moved to a better City and started ignoring the media completely.  Spend lots of time outside.

Even during this silly election, completely ignored the news.

Election is over, my life will not change a single bit.  But i can choose to let it control me, so i choose not to let it.
