Title: Ironsports Books
Post by: funk51 on December 26, 2012, 01:45:50 PM
keep your eyes open if you ever go to  or are forced to go to flea markets, yard sales,or estate sales for these items.

Anvils horseshoes and cannons books volumes one and two by leo gaudreau 1975. Amazon sells them for 900 dollars for vol. number 1 and 1000 dollars for volume number 2. it's a real steal at 750 for a used copy of both. e-bay sells them for 1094 for both.

never really explained it's just the title given to the rick wayne  and george snyder books put out taken from actual seminars given at george snyder's gyms. i always took it as one guy just pushing another to try and squeeze 3 more reps out of a set.

pennsylvania was a hot bed for weightlifting then powerlifting back than him and jim or james williams had a lot of heated battles.kuc was the better overall lifter though. he reduced down in later years and maybe didn't reach his full potential. that's what the smarter ones did to preserve their health.

Yeah.
Last I heard, Nesser owned some kind of clothing store in rural PA. I'm not even sure if he's still alive, but I know someone whose grandfather lived out that way years ago and actually stopped in. Isaac had business cards printed up with the picture above printed on them.
I believe the cards advertised both clothing and training services.

No shit? This is honestly the first I've heard of that!

I suppose it should not come as too big of a surprise. Irving Johnson "became" Rheo H. Blair after a fortune-teller convinced him the letters had greater astrological significance and would bring him more money.

I am reminded of a scene from one of the greatest works in contemporary American cinema:

This is probably my favorite era of bodybuilding. I am a huge mark for Draper, Scott, Ortiz, etc.
Probably around 2007, JPM turned me onto some of Gironda's ideas from the 50's & 60's. I was hooked!

i think they used the fake wooden barbell that they used to impress newbies at gold's gym back in the day. pic'd here. even paul anderson was said to throw in a wood plate here and there to save his back doing all his exhibitions. patera and superstar billy grahan used wood plates when they challenged each other.{got this out of sbg book.}

i didn't take it that way, just saying by observing sometimes you can learn new techniques that may or may not work for you. some of the "old timers like vince gironda and larry scott often put  little twists  on basic exercises that would [sometimes] stimulate the muscle in a  different way.

Not sure if it was written by Joe (maybe Funk knows?), but I've found this one on http://stinkylulu.blogspot.nl/2007/09/he-man-voice-homo-heritage-fridays.html
See also: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2011/11/13/masculine-voice/

keep your eyes open if you ever go to  or are forced to go to flea markets, yard sales,or estate sales for these items.anvils horseshoes and cannons books volumes one and two by leo gaudreau 1975. amazon sells them for 900 dollars for vol. number 1 and 1000 dollars for volume number 2. it's a real steal at 750 for a used copy of both. e-bay sells them for 1094 for both.
a guy on ebay has jusy offered up both volumes for 327 dollars. they go for as much as 1500 dollars per volume on amazon. :o :o :o :o

A few of these Weider pamphlets from the late 50s with the great cover art were basically just catalogs for Weider books and products, with a bit of sample info included and profiles of people who supposedly made big progress after they bought the Weider stuff.

Recently picked up a nice little book to read on the plane for recent business travel.
Its just a "older" guy like us, age 50, telling about his life w/ iron, his training (Powerbuilding style) a nice little read.
Loves his home gym, etc.
Mentions my bud Arcidi and has some pics of Ted in the book. (Inspired by Ted, like lots of lifters have been).

Nothing historical or earth shattering, I look at it like a book that I would write.
