my kitten and miniblinds.
« on: May 05, 2007, 02:16:43 AM »

How do you keep your pet from destroying thye miniblinds? I am now on my 4th set in less than a year.I know they are cheap but this is getting ridiculous. I used to spray her with water when I saw her messing with them.I thought I had her broken of the habit cause she went all winter without damaging them.I came home from work yesterday and it looked like a weed eater had gotten ahold of them. >:(

I think you are lost with this one.. :-\
Did you let her do it when she was a kitten? Most of the time people think it's cute in the beginning so they just laugh at first but when they start getting older they are unstopable in their behavior... :o People tend to forget to raise a kitten ....i tryed to raise my cats as if it were my dogs.
I know it sounds stupid but they sure know now what they can and can't do around the house... ;)

No I have always punished her for her behavior. She is very mischievious. She knows when she is doing wrong.I will see her and as soon as I get up from my chair she runs for it. ;D hahaha hides under the bed where I can't get her.

Put the blindes up when you are not home.

Or, don't get the thin plastic minis, get metal ones.  They make a lot of noise when messed with and it will probably scare her.

Maybe she is attracted to the pull-string?  There are blinds available w/o strings.

I have a street cat...it is amazing the damage they can cause....I never leave my car keys out, I am sure my cat would steal my car & rob a bank!

That aint a bad idea...I could get the metal ones and run a jumper wire to the neares electrical outlet. :D

But when one of the metal one bends, the kink usually stays.

    Or go with verticals.

Related to what was said, move whatever's she's standing on-furniture, etc. out of reach of the blinds so she can't get near them.

Some sprays might work on the blinds, dissuade her from going near them.
