Ohtani will get away with it. Just like LeBron would if he was the guy gambling.

He probably gets away with a fine and short ban (don't know NBA rules on this) if he just bet on games he wasn't involved in.

But he passed on team information and purposefully underperformed/pulled out of a game to try have a big odds bet land (they have software the flags stuff like this) He and anyone trying to do this is fucked. That stuff immediately gets sent to law enforcement.

Betting site operators. Software looks at large bets in obscure markets, it gets cross referenced with user betting history and previous bet size and then it gets flagged (new account would get flagged too)

Betting site operator also should have had a max bet limit which wouldn't have allowed such large bets to be placed, and automatically sends it to a human to do a risk assessment. But most sites are barely legal so they don't bother with that stuff. It's only when they take a hit that they start caring.

This kills an athlete's career. Had he just gambled other sports he would have been fine.
