How strong were you when you first walked into a gym?
« on: November 20, 2006, 04:20:16 AM »
The first time I ever stepped in a gym (or lifted any weights for that matter) I had just turned fourteen years old. I could benchpress 110lbs and barbell curl 45lbs.

What a beast!!

Discuss.  :)

Let's see.... I had just turned 15 and started working out at home and the school gym. My max for a bench press was 155lbs. with roughly 13'' arms.

My pressing movements were weak as shit.
Flat DB press for power was 50s x 6
Shoulder DB press 40s x 7

I was really strong in rows and shrugs. I remember DB rowing 120 lbs. for 6 reps and BB rowing close to 200 pounds when I was 15. Shrugging close to 300 and DB shrugs were over 100s. Couldn't do shit other than that at that age though.

My first time squatting was crazy. I did 95 pounds for about 12 reps. And I did 5 sets which were all pretty intense for a first timer, and I limped pretty badly out of the weight room and was extreeemmely sore for about 8 days afterwards.

I can't remember it was so long ago (1973) but I was a gymnast so I was pretty strong already.
