I've been contemplating switching to German Volume Training for about the last two weeks. Today, on the drive home from work, I decided that tonight would be the night.
For compound upper body work, I've decided to perform 10x10 of a primary movement followed by 3-4 sets of an "accessory" movement.
So, tonight's workout consisted of chest and back and looked like this:
Flat dumbbell presses - 10x10
Pec-deck - 4x12
Pull-downs - 10x10
Machine pull-overs - 4x10-12
Tonight - and, I suspect the next week or two - was and will consist of some experimenting to get the weights right. I'm excited to see how this turns out for me. I've read lots of positive feedback from trainers who've used the GVT principles, including some of the variations. The use of "accessory" exercises is from something I read years ago in a Charles Poliquin article.
