I clearly remember the first time my young eyes focused on the glossy images in Playboy magazine. After all, it wasn’t hard to find. When I was growing up men kept it on their nightstands next to that day’s sports page. They read it for the articles of course. But once I saw that first nude image of the female body I was hooked. It is with great regret and many tears that I confess that I can’t remember a lot of things from my childhood, yet the images of those women have seared themselves into my mind. Whispering empty promises of satisfaction and fulfillment on the next page, or in the next issue – to put it in today’s vernacular with the next click of the mouse. Only to be left guilt-ridden and empty.
This plague of pornography reminds me of the foolish woman described in Proverbs 9:14-17 “She sits at the doorway of her house, on a seat by the high places of the city, calling to those who pass by, who are making their paths straight: “Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,” And to him who lacks understanding she says, “Stolen water is sweet; and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.” Yet in all our wisdom today, we still believe that stolen water is sweet, and satisfying the lust of our flesh in secret can be gratifying. This only leads to death. Which begs the question…
WHY DOES OUR SOCIETY CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF HUGH HEFNER?
Upon arriving home late Wednesday evening I learned of the death of Hugh Hefner. The founder of Playboy magazine, who at the age of 27 published his first issue in December of 1953. On the first page of the first edition Hefner wrote, “We want to make it clear from the very start, we aren’t a family magazine.” The ultimate of understatements. What I could not wrap my mind around is why so many were celebrating the rotten fruit produced by this man’s life? By the time morning had dawned every want-a-be comedian on Twitter and Facebook jokingly asked, “How could Hefner go to heaven if he already lived there?” Although I regrettably know many believe that to be true. But really…what was his great contribution to the American landscape?
Now, to be fair I don’t want to saddle Hefner with inventing pornography or the publicizing of the nude female image. It is almost impossible to trace the roots of pornography back into history. Man drew nude images long before the first photo was snapped. However, there is no denying that he was one of the pioneers of the porn industry that helped blaze a trail for the acceptance, normalization, and saturation of pornography into the very fabric of society that we see today. Yet, he is still celebrated by people who should know better, and their hypocrisy is on display for the world to see. Where is the National Organization for Women to protest this man’s memory? The man who objectified women as mere sexual play things, and dressed them up in bunny ears and fishnets for the entertainment of sexually perverse and oppressive men. Where are the women who have and still would protest Christian men’s ministries like “Promise Keepers” for holding women back? No, instead he is celebrated as a man that helped bring about the sexual revolution but ask yourself honestly: “Are we better off as a society post-Hugh and Playboy?” NO, NO, and I will say it again – NO! The porn industry has exploded today, and although Mr. Hefner does not deserve all the credit, he certainly deserves a majority of the blame.
THE POISONOUS LEGACY OF HUGH HEFNEER IS TRAGIC AND ONGOING!
Today, Playboy magazine is nothing more than a dusty old forgotten antique on the back shelf of our nation’s history. With the invention of the internet came internet pornography, relegating pornographic publications like Hefner’s mag a thing of the past. Men and women no longer need to go into a public place (risking embarrassment) to purchase porn. No, now they can browse thousands upon thousands of virtual lovers for free from the comfort of their living rooms.
According to PornHub (one of the Web’s largest porn sites), American’s porn-watching sessions are, on average, the longest in the world. Worldwide PornHub had over 14 billion hits last year. That averages to 1.68 million visits per hour the entire year. Porn revenue is more than the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC ($6.2 billion). Around 70% of men aged 18–24 visit porn sites on a weekly basis. Hugh Hefner helped to normalize porn, he put it in millions of American homes. He was the driving engine that helped make porn mainstream. He glamorized it to the point of destroying our nation’s cultural, moral, and spiritual fabric.
It is nearly impossible to estimate the damage that he did. Especially to young men. Not that porn doesn’t negatively affect women who view it, but despite what our culture would have you believe, our minds are wired differently. As a father of six boys, I’m keenly aware of this fact. Men are distinctly visual creatures. My generation didn’t have the internet, but we all knew where dad kept his stash, and of course we would pass them around. The effects continue to echo through our culture and the results have been devastating. Boys grow up to believe that they are entitled to sex on demand. That marriage is too confining, promiscuity is liberating, and any potential “love interest” had to be hot. Mr. Hefner while living the “Playboy lifestyle” created a new cultural norm for the female image that has to be air-brushed, enhanced, sculpted, and waxed. In other words, the kind of woman that no woman could live up to.
Even though the reality of this woman does not exist it won’t keep many men from desiring and pursuing their desires through fantasy. How many families have been torn to pieces after a wife realizes her husband is addicted to porn? How many men live in shame because of their enslavement to this so called “secret sin?” The science is in. The studies and statistics are available for those brave enough to look. Pornography changes the brain. It is as addictive as cocaine and has many of the same chemical effects on the brain when it is consumed. It is an addictive, consuming, and escalating behavior that leaves you lonely and hurts your partner. Porn warps our thinking about sex, and perverts the sacredness of sex between a husband and wife. Most importantly, it is a sin that is a stench in the nostrils of a holy and righteous God (1 Corinthians 6:9).
THE BIBLE WARNS US NOT TO LUST WITH OUR EYES
In Job 31:1 we read “I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?” In 1 John chapter 2, we are warned of the dangers of “the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes.” And of course who can forget the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:28
“I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
How can you view pornographic images and not lust? The answer is simple – you can’t.
HUGH HEFNER’S LEGACY CAN BE SUMMED UP BY ONE WORD…
Tragic. The most tragic part of his legacy is it will still continue to be played out long after he is gone. Even though Mr. Hefner was once a revolutionary of the modern sexual revolution, at the end of his days he was clearly left behind. As a pioneer in the pornography industry, the horrifying effects of his invention must be laid at his feet. At the end of his life Mr. Hefner had already declared “victory” in the cultural war over sex and sexuality. So much so that two years ago he decided that nudity was so prevalent that nude models no longer needed to grace the covers of his magazine. Americans were now desensitized to his brand of porn.
Hef may have one the cultural battle, but he lost the war. Believe it or not he was raised by conservative Christian parents. His Methodist mother even prayed that God would one day use him as a missionary. But as a rebel is known to do he threw off the “repressive” biblical and sexual morality of his parents. He would become a missionary delivering his damaging message of sexual hedonism around the globe. I will not miss Hugh Hefner, and I certainly won’t celebrate his life. There are times that I still feel animosity towards him for the “innocence” he took from me at an early age. Nevertheless, my faith informs my thinking. I pray in the end that Mr. Hefner turned to Christ in repentance and faith. The God of the Bible that he both learned about as a boy and publicly rejected for all of his adult life. As far as I know.

A book called “Wired For Intimacy: How Pornography Hijacks the Male Brain” written by William Struthers. This book is not for the faint of heart, but it will help you to understand how pornography works, and why the male mind is particularly susceptible to visual pornography. Although the book primarily focuses of the effects of pornography on the male mind it does not limit the book to only male readers. It is a great resource for women who want to better understand their husbands, or moms that have sons. The need for a book like this reinforces the fact we live in a fallen world. Goldstein was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to a Jewish family. He attended Boys High. He served in the Army as a photographer (in the Signal Corps), captained the debate team at Pace College (for whose newspaper he interviewed Allen Ginsberg), and was a photojournalist, taking pictures of Jacqueline Kennedy on a 1962 state trip to Pakistan and spending several days in a Cuban jail for taking unauthorized photos of Fidel Castro's brother, Raúl.[4]
He sold insurance; wrote freelance articles; ran a dime-pitch concession at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair; sold rugs, encyclopedias, and his own blood; drove a cab (he kept his hack license active until his death); and landed a job as an industrial spy infiltrating a labor union, an experience that so appalled him he wrote an exposé about it for the New York Free Press, a radical weekly.[1][5]
Print publications
Screw
In November 1968 in New York, Al and his partner Jim Buckley, investing $175 each, founded Screw, a weekly tabloid. It featured reviews of porn movies, peep shows, erotic massage parlors, brothels, escorts and other offerings of the adult entertainment industry. Such items were interspersed with sexual news, book reviews of sexual books, and hardcore "gynecological" pictorials. He regularly ran, without permission, photos and drawings of celebrities.
"Screw grew from a combination of many factors, chief of which was my own dissatisfaction with the sex literature of 1968 and my yearning for a publication that reflected my sexual appetites," he wrote. "I may be making a lot of money, but I really believe I'm doing some good by demythologizing a lot about sexuality", he said in a Playboy Interview. It was described as "raunchy, obnoxious, usually disgusting and sometimes political."[6] The initial price was 25¢. At its peak, Screw sold 140,000 copies a week.[7][8]
Arrested 19 times on obscenity charges, he spent millions on First Amendment lawsuits, ultimately scoring a major victory when a federal judge dismissed an obscenity case in 1974. (Goldstein believed that the case began as a result of Screw's article, "Is J. Edgar Hoover a Fag?",[6][9] the first published comment on Hoover's sexuality.[10]) Venue-shopping prosecutors selected conservative Wichita, Kansas, to prosecute Goldstein for obscenity;[11] when he was found not guilty, he flew the jury to New York to attend a party at the swing club Plato's Retreat.[12] His long-term attorney was Herald Price Fahringer.[5][13]
According to Will Sloan, "Goldstein was the first journalist to seriously review porn films. Had he not written a rave review of a low-budget film called Deep Throat (“I was never so moved by any theatrical performance since stuttering through my own bar mitzvah”), it would never have become a hit at New York's World Theater, would never have been targeted by the vice squad, would never have spawned a First Amendment cause célèbre, and might not have led to the modern porn industry."[4]
Bitch magazine
In the March 11, 1974, issue of Screw Goldstein ran an ad seeking subscribers to a new magazine, Bitch, which "brings women's sexuality out of the closet for the first time" and also "takes women out of politics and puts them back on their back where they belong." (Note: there have been several other magazines also called Bitch.)[14] The first issue "contain[ed] an explosive symposium about blowjobs by four women who talk about giving head and what they like and don't like about it". It also included an interview with actor James Caan, and a centerfold of a man shot by a female photographer.[15]
Smut Magazine
In the same March 11, 1974, issue of Screw Goldstein also ran an ad seeking subscribers to Smut, a magazine "so filthy that not only do you have to wash after every page, but every reader must disinfect after reading! SMUT is so dirty, so scummy, that once you have it on your hands you can't get it off!"[16] The magazine offered pornography in images and words, without the news articles found in Screw.
National Screw
In 1976-1977 National Screw was published; the place of publication was given as Secaucus, New Jersey. The June 1977 issue of the magazine contained, according to its cover, a new story by William Burroughs and an interview with Allen Ginsberg.[17] It is known to have published at least nine issues (76-77), also containing original adult comic strip work from comic artist legends Wally Wood and Will Eisner.[18]
Death magazine
In 1979, Goldstein began Death magazine. It lasted four issues.[19] The February, 1980 issue had a picture of Elvis Presley on the cover, "Grim Reaper Awards", "Eulogy to a War Lover", "Death by Hanging", "Femme Fatales", and other articles.[20]
Screw West
In 1979-1980 Goldstein's company, Milky Way Productions, published Screw West out of an office in Hollywood, California. According to an advertisement, it was intended to answer such questions as, "Where can I get laid in San Francisco? What's the best swinger's club in Los Angeles? How do I find all those out-of-the-way Pacific Coast nude beaches? And what are those bawdy brothels outside Las Vegas really like?" It is known to have published 54 issues.[21]

It Happened in Hollywood
In 1973, "Screw Magazine present[ed]" It Happened in Hollywood, a pornographic movie, produced by Goldstein's partner Jim Buckley. Goldstein played a character in the movie, and is also credited as "fourth unit director." At the 2nd Annual New York Erotic Film Festival it won awards for Best Picture, Best Female Performance, and Best Supporting Actor.[22]
Midnight Blue
In 1974 Goldstein began Screw Magazine of the Air, soon renamed Midnight Blue, a thrice weekly hour-long adult-oriented public access television program that ran for nearly 30 years on Manhattan Cable's Channel J; federal regulations regarding public access to cable TV systems made it impossible for the cable system to refuse his program.[23][24] (Similarly, Goldstein used a legal prohibition on the censorship of political advertisements to force television broadcast of pornography, under a transparent, but legal, veil of "political candidacy".) In it, he regularly interviewed porn stars, other adult industry figures, and sympathetic celebrities and "freaks", and ran advertisements for brothels and phone sex services.[citation needed]
In the later years, after departure of original director Alex Bennett, Goldstein featured on each program a "Fuck You" segment, a few minutes in which he viciously attacked celebrities, politicians, the judge who presided over his latest trial, the New York County District Attorney, and businesses he felt had wronged him.[citation needed]
In its early years, Midnight Blue presented porn star Georgina Spelvin doing her nude tap-dance act at the Melody Burlesque; Tara Alexander attempting the world's biggest gang bang at Plato's Retreat, the New York swing club; the 10th anniversary Screw party, where Buck Henry and Melvin Van Peebles hobnob with Goldstein's jurors; and an early look at the S&M community in New York. Throughout its run, Midnight Blue interviewed almost every major porn star, and regularly hit the limits of what was acceptable for cable television."[4] Seven volumes of excerpts from the show have been reissued on DVD.[25]
SOS: Screw on the Screen
In 1975, Goldstein issued SOS: Screw on the Screen, a stridently unsexy attempt at a cinematic newsmagazine that included a lot of goofy comedy, a gay scene, and several minutes of Goldstein ranting about America's sexual hypocrisy. Also appearing was Honeysuckle Divine (who often appeared in SCREW).[26] A poster of her was on sale in the same issue. Honeysuckle Divine was a Times Square stripper whose specialty was inserting objects such as pickles in her vagina, shooting out many of them. She put the pickles in baggies and sold them to patrons. Goldstein said that her act "was unbelievably disgusting, so naturally, we made her our symbol."[4]
Other business ventures
The Screw Store
In the May 17, 1976, issue of Screw Goldstein ran an ad for the "Screw Store", which offered dildos, including a "Bicentennial Dildo", vibrating Ben wa eggs, and a vibrating cock ring.[27] Selling dildos brought one of Goldstein's many arrests.[4][28]
Al Goldstein's Cinema
The October 17, 1977, issue of Screw contained an advertisement for "Al Goldstein's Cinema", located at 8th Avenue and 46th Street near Times Square. Admission was 99¢.[29] In the same issue, in the movie listings, it is described as "a large, comfortable porn house which shows average hardcore features. Some of these are first-run features, some have already played theaters in the city."[30] The theater is not found in a listing of porn theaters from 1979.[31]
Rabbit Ranch
In 2001, on Saint Martin, an island in the Lesser Antilles, Goldstein planned to open the Rabbit Ranch, the first of what he hoped would be a chain of 10 to 30 bordellos that would flourish wherever prostitution is legal.[8] He intended to use the profits to finance his second run for sheriff. The brothel never opened; authorities refused to give him a license because he was not a citizen of that nation. "We didn't bribe the right people or something," he said.[32]

Free speech
In 1989, Goldstein ran a full page ad in Screw offering $1 million for the assassination of the Ayatollah Khomeini, in response to Khomeini's fatwa against novelist Salman Rushdie for allegedly blaspheming Islam.[33]
View on Christianity
In his book XXX-Communicated: A Rebel Without a Shul, Luke Ford wrote about a conversation with Goldstein, in which Ford asked Goldstein why Jews were dramatically overrepresented in the porn industry. He answered, "The only reason that Jews are in pornography is that we think that Christ sucks. Catholicism sucks. We don't believe in authoritarianism. Pornography thus becomes a way of defiling Christian culture and, as it penetrates to the very heart of the American mainstream (and is no doubt consumed by those very same WASPs), its subversive character becomes more charged. " Ford then asked, "What does it mean to you to be a Jew?" To which Goldstein responded, "It doesn't mean anything. It means that I'm called a kike." Ford also asked, "Do you believe in God?" Goldstein said, "I believe in me. I'm God. Screw God. God is your need to believe in some super being. I am the super being. I am your God, admit it. We're random. We're the flea on the butt of the dog."[34]
Personal life
Friendship with Larry Flynt
One of Goldstein's best friends was Larry Flynt. Goldstein said that Flynt's Hustler magazine, founded seven years after Screw, stole the Hustler format from Screw, but that he was not angry. According to Goldstein, Flynt succeeded in creating a national publication, at which he had failed.[35]
Family
Goldstein married five times and had a son, Jordan Ari Goldstein, with his third wife, Gina. According to Goldstein, he and Jordan had a close relationship until the Goldsteins' divorce. They became estranged after Al called Gina "a contemptible vagina".[36]
Life in Florida
While mostly associated with the city of New York, Goldstein was also a well-known figure in Broward County, Florida, making the cover of a local alternative tabloid, New Times.[4] He owned a 10,000-square-foot mansion in Pompano Beach, famous for its statue, 11 feet (3.4 m) high, of a raised middle finger on the back lawn, visible to boaters on the Intracoastal Waterway.[37][38]
In 1992, he filed to run for sheriff against Nick Navarro, who had gained Goldstein's enmity by arresting on obscenity charges 2 Live Crew members and a record dealer who sold their album As Nasty As They Wanna Be. (The accused were convicted, but won on appeal.) Goldstein withdrew before the election took place. In 2001 he spoke publicly of his intent to run a second time, against Ken Jenne, on a platform of "leaving folks the hell alone". He never filed, saying that he could not afford the campaign.[32]
Final years
Legal issues and financial woes
In 2002, Goldstein was found guilty of harassing a former employee, having published her telephone number and place of employment in Screw and encouraging readers to call her and tell her "to stop being such a girl." Goldstein was sentenced to 60 days in jail. He served six days before the charges were overturned on appeal. Goldstein apologized as part of a plea bargain.[39][40][41] Screw folded in 2003, unable to make payroll;[42] only 600 copies were sold of the last issue.[4]
Goldstein's company, Milky Way Productions, which published Screw and Midnight Blue, entered bankruptcy in 2004, having lost sales and subscribers as a result of the proliferation of internet pornography, abetted by Goldstein's financial mismanagement.[43]
Goldstein lost his Florida mansion and his townhouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Jobless and penniless, he ended up living briefly in a Manhattan homeless shelter. He was fired from New York's well-known Second Avenue Deli for sleeping in the basement, after a brief stint there as a greeter.[10][44]
He was arrested for shoplifting four health-related books from Barnes & Noble.[45] He worked in 2005 as a commissioned salesman for New York City Bagels.[46] Between 2005 and 2008, he blogged for booble.com, a pornographic search engine[47] he then continued on his own website until 2009.[48]
He was financially supported in his last years by his friend the illusionist Penn Jillette, on whose floor he once slept, and who admired Goldstein for his First Amendment activism.[4] His final residence, prior to a nursing home, was a small apartment in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens,[49] paid for by Jillette.[50]

I went to a talk he gave at my college. He was pretty old and still pretty filthy. But listening to him was like listening to an old drunk- all he talked about was the past and how cutting edge he was. Most people got up and left because he was so boring.

I clearly remember the first time my young eyes focused on the glossy images in Playboy magazine. After all, it wasn’t hard to find. When I was growing up men kept it on their nightstands next to that day’s sports page. They read it for the articles of course. But once I saw that first nude image of the female body I was hooked. It is with great regret and many tears that I confess that I can’t remember a lot of things from my childhood, yet the images of those women have seared themselves into my mind. Whispering empty promises of satisfaction and fulfillment on the next page, or in the next issue – to put it in today’s vernacular with the next click of the mouse. Only to be left guilt-ridden and empty.
This plague of pornography reminds me of the foolish woman described in Proverbs 9:14-17 “She sits at the doorway of her house, on a seat by the high places of the city, calling to those who pass by, who are making their paths straight: “Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,” And to him who lacks understanding she says, “Stolen water is sweet; and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.” Yet in all our wisdom today, we still believe that stolen water is sweet, and satisfying the lust of our flesh in secret can be gratifying. This only leads to death. Which begs the question…
WHY DOES OUR SOCIETY CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF HUGH HEFNER?
Upon arriving home late Wednesday evening I learned of the death of Hugh Hefner. The founder of Playboy magazine, who at the age of 27 published his first issue in December of 1953. On the first page of the first edition Hefner wrote, “We want to make it clear from the very start, we aren’t a family magazine.” The ultimate of understatements. What I could not wrap my mind around is why so many were celebrating the rotten fruit produced by this man’s life? By the time morning had dawned every want-a-be comedian on Twitter and Facebook jokingly asked, “How could Hefner go to heaven if he already lived there?” Although I regrettably know many believe that to be true. But really…what was his great contribution to the American landscape?
Now, to be fair I don’t want to saddle Hefner with inventing pornography or the publicizing of the nude female image. It is almost impossible to trace the roots of pornography back into history. Man drew nude images long before the first photo was snapped. However, there is no denying that he was one of the pioneers of the porn industry that helped blaze a trail for the acceptance, normalization, and saturation of pornography into the very fabric of society that we see today. Yet, he is still celebrated by people who should know better, and their hypocrisy is on display for the world to see. Where is the National Organization for Women to protest this man’s memory? The man who objectified women as mere sexual play things, and dressed them up in bunny ears and fishnets for the entertainment of sexually perverse and oppressive men. Where are the women who have and still would protest Christian men’s ministries like “Promise Keepers” for holding women back? No, instead he is celebrated as a man that helped bring about the sexual revolution but ask yourself honestly: “Are we better off as a society post-Hugh and Playboy?” NO, NO, and I will say it again – NO! The porn industry has exploded today, and although Mr. Hefner does not deserve all the credit, he certainly deserves a majority of the blame.
THE POISONOUS LEGACY OF HUGH HEFNEER IS TRAGIC AND ONGOING!
Today, Playboy magazine is nothing more than a dusty old forgotten antique on the back shelf of our nation’s history. With the invention of the internet came internet pornography, relegating pornographic publications like Hefner’s mag a thing of the past. Men and women no longer need to go into a public place (risking embarrassment) to purchase porn. No, now they can browse thousands upon thousands of virtual lovers for free from the comfort of their living rooms.
According to PornHub (one of the Web’s largest porn sites), American’s porn-watching sessions are, on average, the longest in the world. Worldwide PornHub had over 14 billion hits last year. That averages to 1.68 million visits per hour the entire year. Porn revenue is more than the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC ($6.2 billion). Around 70% of men aged 18–24 visit porn sites on a weekly basis. Hugh Hefner helped to normalize porn, he put it in millions of American homes. He was the driving engine that helped make porn mainstream. He glamorized it to the point of destroying our nation’s cultural, moral, and spiritual fabric.
It is nearly impossible to estimate the damage that he did. Especially to young men. Not that porn doesn’t negatively affect women who view it, but despite what our culture would have you believe, our minds are wired differently. As a father of six boys, I’m keenly aware of this fact. Men are distinctly visual creatures. My generation didn’t have the internet, but we all knew where dad kept his stash, and of course we would pass them around. The effects continue to echo through our culture and the results have been devastating. Boys grow up to believe that they are entitled to sex on demand. That marriage is too confining, promiscuity is liberating, and any potential “love interest” had to be hot. Mr. Hefner while living the “Playboy lifestyle” created a new cultural norm for the female image that has to be air-brushed, enhanced, sculpted, and waxed. In other words, the kind of woman that no woman could live up to.
Even though the reality of this woman does not exist it won’t keep many men from desiring and pursuing their desires through fantasy. How many families have been torn to pieces after a wife realizes her husband is addicted to porn? How many men live in shame because of their enslavement to this so called “secret sin?” The science is in. The studies and statistics are available for those brave enough to look. Pornography changes the brain. It is as addictive as cocaine and has many of the same chemical effects on the brain when it is consumed. It is an addictive, consuming, and escalating behavior that leaves you lonely and hurts your partner. Porn warps our thinking about sex, and perverts the sacredness of sex between a husband and wife. Most importantly, it is a sin that is a stench in the nostrils of a holy and righteous God (1 Corinthians 6:9).
THE BIBLE WARNS US NOT TO LUST WITH OUR EYES
In Job 31:1 we read “I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?” In 1 John chapter 2, we are warned of the dangers of “the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes.” And of course who can forget the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:28
“I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
How can you view pornographic images and not lust? The answer is simple – you can’t.
HUGH HEFNER’S LEGACY CAN BE SUMMED UP BY ONE WORD…
Tragic. The most tragic part of his legacy is it will still continue to be played out long after he is gone. Even though Mr. Hefner was once a revolutionary of the modern sexual revolution, at the end of his days he was clearly left behind. As a pioneer in the pornography industry, the horrifying effects of his invention must be laid at his feet. At the end of his life Mr. Hefner had already declared “victory” in the cultural war over sex and sexuality. So much so that two years ago he decided that nudity was so prevalent that nude models no longer needed to grace the covers of his magazine. Americans were now desensitized to his brand of porn.
Hef may have one the cultural battle, but he lost the war. Believe it or not he was raised by conservative Christian parents. His Methodist mother even prayed that God would one day use him as a missionary. But as a rebel is known to do he threw off the “repressive” biblical and sexual morality of his parents. He would become a missionary delivering his damaging message of sexual hedonism around the globe. I will not miss Hugh Hefner, and I certainly won’t celebrate his life. There are times that I still feel animosity towards him for the “innocence” he took from me at an early age. Nevertheless, my faith informs my thinking. I pray in the end that Mr. Hefner turned to Christ in repentance and faith. The God of the Bible that he both learned about as a boy and publicly rejected for all of his adult life. As far as I know.

A book called “Wired For Intimacy: How Pornography Hijacks the Male Brain” written by William Struthers. This book is not for the faint of heart, but it will help you to understand how pornography works, and why the male mind is particularly susceptible to visual pornography. Although the book primarily focuses of the effects of pornography on the male mind it does not limit the book to only male readers. It is a great resource for women who want to better understand their husbands, or moms that have sons. The need for a book like this reinforces the fact we live in a fallen world.
