Hard to know how much age plays a role here, probably alot. Besides a slower and weaker body than prime Mike most likely also has a some CTE and is affected by it at this age aswell.

My take is that Tyson is most likely broke or close to it otherwise there would be no reason what so ever to do this.

This is a stupid fight, no doubt.  Hopefully, it's an exhibition which won't mean shit.  Also, if Texas sanctions it as a real fight, they need to forfeit their right to have professional combat sports in that state forever.  Tyson is almost 60.  Jake is 25ish. 

That being said, Jake Paul is treating boxing seriously.  He has been training in real gyms and sparring real fighters for more than 5 or 6 years now.  Talk to pro's who've worked with him and they'll let you know that he may never win a world title but he's not to be taken lightly.  If it's a real fight 10 round fight with 3 minute rounds and Tyson doesn't land the Hail Mary in rounds 1 or 2, he won't see the 6th round.  He was pathetic 19 years ago he hasn't gotten better.  Real fight - Jake by stoppage.  Exhibition fight - Controversial draw.

At the end of the day, while I commend Paul  for fighting, he still hasn't fought anyone of Tyson's caliber. He's fought UFC guys, who's boxing is mediocre compared to a Tyson level boxer, and Tyson Fury's little brother, who beat him. Mike during his prime had a 88% KO rate, that doesn't turn to dust and disappear. Paul has a 66% KO rate against low to middling fighters.

I want him to fight a current top five fighter in his weight class. I really wish Tyson wasn't doing this. This is going to tarnish his reputation.  Old fighter that have been in wars have bad reflects from repeated shots to the head.

1. Jake had no amateur back ground.  It's unreasonable to suggest he fight a top 5 guy already.  I hope the Tyson fight is an exhibition or doesn't happen at all.  I want to see Jake slowly step up the competition this year.  Maybe culminating with a rematch against Tommy Fury.  Assuming he gets by Fury, a top 20 opponent feels about the right step.

2.  Nothing Tyson does at this point tarnishes anything in terms of his prime and historical standing.

I get what you’re saying though. After watching Holyfield get tko’d by belator, I don’t have a lot of faith in these old guys being competitive.
