I don't get much out of most alcohols. Even the nice wines. I don't feel like they add to the meal the same way that most people seem to get more enjoyment out of having a good glass of wine with their dinner. I'll still have a glass every now and then but it's really just to share the bottle with company.

If I'm single and out then having mixed drinks is fun, but makes life difficult the next day

Drank heavily for 40 years straight.
Quit for good 4 years ago... Did cocaine for a couple of years back in the 80's, didn't do much for me.
Even getting for free I'd eventually refuse it. Didn't like the buzz.
Last time I had it, we went away for the week, had a couple grams of coke, flushed it down the bowl.
Last time I touched it..

Plus, we had ephedrine around if needed. No need for expensive coke...

Used to go to all nighters and watch the pissheads start falling asleep about 2.30 am,m doormen removed them all and we danced until 9.am, never any trouble, women all over you, occasiopnally men (had to point at my wedding ring to avoid any embarrassment)

then came Cocaine and ruined everything

When I was in college and used to fuck around with coke we’d call it the “reset button” so we could drink more. It’s weird, the only time I ever wanted to do coke was when I was doing coke. It also made my dick not work after a couple of rounds of lines. Waste of money but as a 22 year old you’re an idiot anyway.

Honestly I think its genetics, hereditary, and also some environment thrown in there.
I come from a large family of alcoholics. I'm sure I was one from my 1st beer, and I remember it to this day.
Stole a Michelob (age 12) and guzzled it in my garage, like Prime on a death-bed caulk.
The buzz was amazing (at the time) temporary escape from in-home violence, so it helped cope.

Until it didnt...
(Then drank heavily from age 13 to 53 - 40 yrs). (Then drank heavily from age 13 to 53 - 40 yrs).

Alcohol usually leads to 3 places when used heavily, AA, Jail, Death... (Or rare one like me, just quit and thats that).

In the last year alone, I had one buddy die (car wreck 2 weeks ago buzzed up) and one now in jail for 2nd degree murder (killed a guy in a buzzed-up car wreck).
Dangerous stuff... Glad I got out...

I still love my nightime gummies though, painless/amazing sleep...

Ive always been addicted to training right along with that, so probably...
School wasn't for me, but I did keep studying and passing all the IT certs over my career. (WIN NT, Exchange, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Security+ etc)...
I was very functional, but drank 5-6 days a week for 30 years... (The first 10 yrs were the normal "hang w/ buddies and drink beer in the band" type of thing.
Before it escalated...

I have 3-5 shots a week of either whiskey, vodka, or another hard liquor.

Just one drink at a time like a Scotch and Soda.

Always at home.  Never out as too much risk for DUI, etc.

Gave up beer as it has too many carbs and raises estrogen levels.

Plenty of times I got hammered in my youth though.

Most of the stupid things I've done were under the influence.

It says I haven’t had a drink in 45 days.

I do drink from time to time, but overall I’m just not as into any more.

I’m guessing over the previous 43 years of drinking and drug use I have spent/cost myself $300,000. That’s for alcohol, drugs, lost work, lawyers, wrecked cars, hookers, hotel rooms, emergency room visits, reckless gambling, late night drives & flights to Las Vegas, etc. $300,000 is probably a reasonable guess.
