Yeah.  It's silly.  If you read what Proverbs has to say about money and wealth, it actually encourages people to be debt free, save, etc.  The problem is, as you already pointed out, the people who let money and wealth consume them and interfere with their spiritual relationships.  But money and wealth in and of themselves are not condemned.  If that were the case, every character in the Bible would have been broke.

No, it's not ramming anything down anyone's throat.  I drive by a Bhuddist temple and school every day.  Doesn't bother me at all.  I see religious symbols (Jewish, Catholic, etc.) of all kinds all over the place.  I've seen mosques all the over place.  Not a problem.
