I never had issues with the couple I've had. Could've been luck, but I also don't have a lead foot, and beat them up either. But they are cars that you shouldn't have if you live paycheck to paycheck. Having something go wrong could cost you 1,000 or more to fix, but that isn't terrible for a car like that.

All the German makes have it and have had it for some time. Germany is more militant about the environment than the US. However, most of these cars now have mild hybrid systems that make the off and on less noticeable than it used to be. I barely notice it now where in the past it was really annoying.
