I'm not the type to get star struck either, mainly because I got to meet and get to know my favorite blazer from when I was a kid through a college friend (they're family). What....the 1860's and 70's?  I am from L.A. I lived there from the very early 1950's until I moved to Portland as an adult in the 1966. Beverly Hills, Bell Aire, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Hombly Hills, Encino, Sherman Oaks and Malibu were where "movie stars" took up residence and not in Englewood. Could you be speaking of out of work extras? Beverly Hills was completely built up in the 1960's.

Burton Green began construction on the Beverly Hills Hotel in 1911. In 1919, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford bought land on Summit Drive and built a mansion, finished in 1921. In the early 1940s, black actors and businessmen had begun to move into Beverly Hills, despite the covenants allowing only whites to live in the city. In 1956, Paul Trousdale (1915-1990) purchased the grounds of the Doheny Ranch and developed it into the Trousdale Estates, convincing the city of Beverly Hills to annex it. It is a great "keep Portland weird" city. Moved here just before our son was born in 1966, been here ever since. Sometimes I miss the warm beaches in Southern California, particularly during a long rainy spell. But today my yard is lush and green and I haven't had to water yet this spring. You don't get that in L.A. which originally was a desert.

West Linn is upscale, but I can afford my home here. The house I grew up in in Encino, CA is completely beyond my reach financially. The home my wife grew up in in Beverly Hills sold a couple of years ago for $11,000,000 and no, we did not profit from that sale. Her dad sold that house when she was still a teenager.
