Running?

From the Police?

Why would anyone run? ;D

I hike 4-5 miles every weekend with 3000' changes in elevation.

I wouldn't run if someone paid me to.

There are enzymes (I think that is what they are called) in the blood that are indicative of one having had a heart attack.  Perhaps that is what he is talking about?

Only an idiot would argue, that you would burn more calories running a mile, rather than walking that same mile.

Of course, running taxes the body more, therefore causing more caloric expenditure.

You will always burn more calories running vs. walking, given that you are traveling the same distance.

Yes, running is more intense and you do burn more calories per second running a mile than you do walking a mile, it's just that by running you complete that mile faster and therefore are burning calories at a faster rate but in a shorter time period. The amount of energy required to move a specific mass for a certain distance will always be the same. How long it takes has no relevance. Same mass, same distance, same energy expenditure.

Distance is more important than pace

Nope. It depends. If you are talking pure caloric expenditure then you are correct. But if you are talking athletic conditioning and stamina it is the pace, the intensity, that matters more. You can still be in shitty shape walking a long distance. My mailman walks all day and he looks like Jabba the Hut. If he ran two miles in 12 minutes con sistently he would be in much better condition.

Look up Fartlek training
thank me later  ::)

I think your spelling is off but I remember when I was a kid I read that was the kind of endurance/stamina training Bruce Lee did.

Yes exactly. I remember once i had to go to hospital for something a day after running hard. They did a quick blood test and a Doctor asked me if i had chest pains..etc. I said i was running last night and he said OK that explains it. Canīt remember the exact details as it was a long time ago but yeah, you see it in your blood.

Exactly. Interesting thing though is that very high level athletes only train in the high intensity training zone for 20% of their training. This is concerning endurance athletes.
