I suppose no one can know for certain.  People like TA and ND just want to believe he was natural.  He may have been, he may not have been.  More than likely I think he dabbled in something, but who knows?

Exactly, I don't think we'll ever really know..

From what I can tell after reading the first page of that thread, there is no meaningful evidence either way.

It is circumstantially possible that he might have taken them. But he said he didn't and his physique seems achievable without them.

So all a juror would have to work with is the character issue. Either they want to believe he was natural or they want to believe anyone with a legendary physique had to be juiced.

While I admit to being one of the former, there is plenty of room for reasonable doubt... and an accused is innocent until proven guilty.

No.

Hope this helps.

Matt, you always take such a negative look at every aspect of this game. Reeves was a man who was known for his integrity. He said he did not use. His physique showed no signs of it. ND has given very detailed descriptions of what was available while Reeves was competing. Steroid use was not prevalent in bodybuilding until the early 1960's. I think that is ample evidence to think Reeves was not a steroid user.

I find it highly unlikely that Reeves did steroids.  He was not really bigger than most of the other top bodybuilders of the time, just with extreme genetics for balance, and symmetry.   According to wikipedia and other resources I've seen, Reeves' top bodyweight was only 216 lbs (see  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Reeves).  Even Reg Parks, one of the larger men of the era (and who may have taken steroids later in his career in the 60s) only topped 225 at 6'2".

If Reeves did take steroids, he definitely didn't do much.  Can you imagine what Reeves would have looked like if he had taken the amount of steroids Arnold did (which was much less than the pros do today)?  He would have been massive!

What's the difference?

If he did, he did....you either liked his physique or you didn't.

There is evidence on both sides.  Why is steroid use negative?  Or is it that I am in some sense accusing Reeves of being a liar which is negative?  Naturally he would not admit to it - I don't think that makes him a liar.  It is economic suicide for some of these pros to be open about their use.  Why is it unrealistic that Steve used?  His physique more closely resembles a juicer than a natural and keep in mind he was big during an era where that type of physique was even more unheard of.

Why is steroid use negative? You should know. You started a whole thread on it- "Topic: It's all about genetics baby!! woot woot!!" Its negative because its besmirching Steve Reeves name. As for his physique being unheard of at the time? It wasn't Reeves size that made him great it was his proportion. Broad shoulders. Narrow waist etc.. As far as size did you ever hear of the name John Grimek? He was way bigger than Reeves during an even earlier time frame. Was he on the juice too? Sandow was as big as Reeves before the turn of the century. I suppose he was on steroids too.

Bob, of course you would have this attitude because the bodybuilders of today have to use steroids to compete. Including you. I am sure its important to the guys who competed naturally that they aren't lumped in with the guys using steroids.
