John Pall Sigmarsson was an amazing Bodybuilder too!
« on: March 19, 2007, 08:34:00 PM »
Just came across this "best of" of John Paull (3 time WSM). About 1:30 into this, you see him in an official bodybuilding competition and I was blown away by the fact that he was amazing! I'm assuming this is before 1983, because starting in that year and up until 1990, he competed EVERY year in the WSM. Here it is:

Not exactly, JP died of a genetic heart defect that almost killed his sister also. Im sure certain things might have aggravated it but it couldn't be totally avoided

i was thinking the same thing, but i'm interested to hear AVBG'S reasoning here.

i heard alot of stories about strong men taking shit loads of stimulants including coke, etc.

that combined with mega body weight, epo for stamina (thickens blood), heavy anapolon, androgens, heavy weights with vasalva - if this is all true i'm surprised many more strong men haven't died of heart attacks.

no disrespect to the competitors. those guys are the true titans of functional strength and power.

He died from an aortic dissection from what I can recall, and that is due to a hereditary weakness.

He was an amazing athlete!

A month ago I wrote a topic about John Pall, a tribute. Of the four greatest Strongman he is the only one I didn`t see in person. I saw Bill Kazmaier, Capes and Magnus ver Magnusson, but John Pall was and is my favourite. People underestimated the size of these men, Capes weighed 375 pounds when I spoke too him, Kazmaier was around 330. When I gave Capes a hand his hand was two and a half times a big as mine, and I`m 6`0.
I`ll post a few pictures of John Pall: I can`t believe that he has been dead for fourteen years!

What's scary is that Capes was probably not even 300 pounds in 1980 (his first WSM competition). In 1981-1982 he was about 320 pounds and from there his weight climbed dramatically. He stood 6'5.5"-6'6" and yes, weighed 375 pounds by 1986-1987.

Kazmaier also went from 275 pounds up to 350 pounds at a height of 6'2.5"-6'3".

Jon Pall was 6'3" and weighed between 285-300 pounds I believe.

These men went from huge to off the map!

He tore his aorta whilst deadlifting. JP was vulnerable to this injury as he knew about his genetic condition but he took a risk and ultimately paid the price. From what I know his sister is still alive and she doesn't take the risks that JP did.

Yeah, he died at 32. What's CRAZY is that the man he defeated in 1990, by HALF A POINT: 6'5" 406 pound O.D. Wilson, died a just just before J.P. did (also heart condition).

Its insane that at 32 someone who dedicates their life to strength and fitness dies so fricken young.
