Look at Yates' calves and quads compared to Haney. He beats him easily. But Haney looked good that year no doubt.

Haney was at his all time best but Yates could have beaten him - his lower body was so much better.  But each won poses, so Lee winning was fine.

But I haven't seen the mandatories in so long.

The champ did what he had to do to go out on top, but also knew it was time to retire.

Haney claimed he FINALLY learned how to peak for a show (which was a frightening thought).

All Haney had left to accomplish was breaking Schwarzenegger's record. And he did that in style.

& wasn't going to beat him the next year - He retired while still at the Top. Smart move.

The record was seven and he got eight, pure and simple.

Yates looked almost exactly the same in 1992 as he did in 1991, basically a white version of Haney. Thus, with Haney gone, the Shadow took the title.

You talk as if Haney couldn't have made similar improvements. It's not as if Haney was 10 years older than Yates. They're just three years apart.

Yates would have had to be somewhat bigger than Haney to beat him. At the same size, Haney gets the better of Yates, due to shape and aesthetics.
