According to doc Mike Israeltel....
« on: June 09, 2024, 10:16:39 AM »
Muscle building reps range from 5-30 reps but...

I seem to grow more on sets that don't go over 6 reps or so

So what do you fellas think?

On Isolation exercises I do better on higher reps up to even 12 or 15

But I seem to get a better muscle building effect on sets form 3-6 on compound lifts

They also say that the last 5 reps in a set are the real muscle builders so if I only get 3 or 4 reps did I fuck up the most and optimum muscle building effects

Once I get 6 reps I increase the weight so I'm thinking I should increase it to 8 reps but I really do do best on sets of not more than 6 reps

Israeltel is a weird dude.

All drugs.  He admits without drugs he disappears.

Basically, he acts like a guru but doesn't know shit about training.

The basics of training haven't changed in 80 years.

I'm pretty sure he's a bully and I fucking hate bullies with a passion 🤬

Like Roman Fritz said recently on a podcast I listened to "if what you're doing is working for you just keep doing it and basically fuck what others say"

That's very good advice actually

I think if you build a very high level of strength then it might be kind of dangerous to go with such low reps but I'm nowhere near that level of strength 😅

He looks up the most popular lifting videos on youtube then he critiques them for his views. A very low life way of stealing someone's popularity. He does this all the time to make a buck. I give him credit for his jui jitsu brown belt. That's a huge accomplishment.  I also saw a video where he talks about his anxiety. I wonder if it's from the drugs he is taking?  He must know if he gets arrested then his college teaching might be over.

Now at 47 i rarely go below 15, usually 20 reps. Same results, way gentle on the body, regarding injuries.

If anyone thinks a brown belt in BJJ is nothing please go into a BJJ dojo and ask to wrestle a brown belt.

so what if he went against another opponent equally skilled in say boxing, i just donīt get this BJJ hype from people.

Iīve seen people with Black Belts who wouldnīt last 2 minutes outside their Dojo.
BJJ is nowadays also money making & is not some kind of special fighting system.

If people enjoy BJJ then do it but donīt think youīre some kind of invincible god

Yes, he said it is from the drugs in the video with Jeff Nippard.

BJJ has been surpassed in cage fighting by MMA.

It's good but when I watch bjj sport matches I laugh when one guy immediately falls on his back before even being touched

Imagine doing that on the street.  Why teach that?

Well, it is taught because bjj is primarily a sport with rules.

exactly & itīs like Kosen Judo, good but only a small part of fighting.

I wonīt say that grappling is not important but the BJJ worship from some is nauseating  ::)

I am a Dan grade in Judo but i donīt think itīs the be all & end all of fighting as i also knew good boxers who would if i wasnīt sharp knock me out.

I also did some boxing & know the score, most fights are over in a few punches.
On the street going to the gound is just stupid..the last place i know from instinct not to go.

As you know there is a difference between self-defence and rule based sport combat.

I am focused only on self-defense and ending altercations quickly.

A good fighter has ground fighting and stand up striking. Just having one or the other is limiting. I stand by what I said. If you think you can fight go to your local BJJ and challenge a white belt that has been doing it for six months. Go to your local boxing gym and ask to spar. I won't listen to a person that hasn't been in fights as an adults but thinks they would do well. So many fools think they can fight because they have their secret eye gouge, head butt or ball grab.  The problem if you don't know how to actually fight you will end up crippled or dead with a real fighter trying those techniques.

Yes, having a brown belt in BJJ from a good school is an amazing accomplishment.

Yes & rolling around the Street is just stupidity.
A Dojo is not like in a real street fight which as you know can get out of hand quickly & with multiple participants.
I think FMA are much better suited for today's environment.
Empty hand & bladed weapons.
Who cares about having a coloured belt , just learn good techniques that's all that matters to me.
BJJ Hype is a thing of the past

Not really sure who youīre talking about in your post but i can assure you that Argyll Sgt who i met and also knew people who served under him was a tough guy and i never say this lightly.
You wouldnīt get a chance to use your BJJ on him.
