Shoulder injury and constant pain- Need advice
« on: August 25, 2018, 02:26:50 AM »
I think I  have torn something in my shoulder. I did Heavy(for me) incline db preses and felt an akward rip in the joint.

Symptoms are pulsating pain. For 3 Days I've had this pain now I'm not sure what is going on it wont go away.  I'm on painkillers now which helps abit….

I'm unable to even lift my arm without extreme pain. I have quite high pain tolerance but this is the worst I've had yet so far in my Life :/ It's like a constant tooth ache or head ache in my shoulder. If I lay down and place my arm in a certain position this pain is reliefed abit. If I move the arm or try lift it pain is worse.

Anyone here ever tore something and had pain like this? Could it be a torn rotator or could a labrum tear cause this extreme constant pain? Can it be swelling pushing on some nerves?

One thing though

When it occured at the gym. I had one excercise left to do which was standing military presses. I was able to finish that off without much pain if any at all  ???

The constant aching pain was starting 4- 5 hours later at night, then the next day same thing.

Ive had the aching pain now 3-4 days and it has not lessened..

When something similar happened to me, it was later discovered it was a partial tear in my right rotator cuff.

Go see a doctor.

If you can't then ice it and take ibuprofen until the pain stops.

When you can move it around reasonably well resume training very, very light.

I'm not a doctor but I play one on Getbig.

Yes I have tested doing some movements today and I find external rotation is basically impossible without extreme pain.... and when I squeeze where attachement for the rotator muscles attach(rear upper humerus bone) it hurts.

Go see a doctor.

I'm trying icing it back and forth now to get some more circulation in the area.

I will wait a few days if the aching doesn't go away in 2 more days I'll see a doc.

Thanks for response yall

From my experience with athletes, it could be one of those. If the pain is that extreme, mobility is limited and weak when tested, it's more than likely a tear. It's just a matter of determining whether if it's grade 1,2 or 3. Grade 1 being a "strain" (strain still means tear) that can be rehabbed through PT, grade 2 means you can try rehab but more than likely surgery is needed or a 3 where surgery is unavoidable. Bottom line, get your butt to an Ortho that specializes in sports injuries ASAP.

My orthopedic said I have a slap tear or torn labrum. He advised against operating and he is a shoulder to hand specialist. He said the first choice is rehab because it wasn't that bad. He was right. It gives me problems but in time it got better and stronger.

Likely a grade 1 tear

Military or bench? I gave up the bench about 5 plus year ago. Every once in awhile I use it but it's sick light. I use dumbbells now. I dumbbell bench with a full range of motion. No half reps and a controlled cadence. Bodybuilding is filled with the delusional about their strength. I work with a guy that benches 400 at around 180.  Bench shirt with a ridiculous arch. I think the bar travels about 12 inches from his chest. I bet when I bench the bar is traveling over 20 inches. Physics 101 will tell you how much work is being done by load and distance traveled.

It swelled after tearing I believe, pushing on nerves so that's why the pain I believe but I'm not an expert. The pain lasted over 3 days then gradually have been lessened. Now I only feel pain in some positions and when lifting or externally rotating. I can externally rotate to some degree but it is really weak. Have to drive with one hand now so thats abit challanging.

Have not gone to a Ortho yet have had work to take care of. I will look into that. Thanks.
