Biden's Truly Reckless Spending Will Likely Be His Undoing
Townhall.com ^ | November 12, 2021 | Neil Patel
Posted on 11/12/2021, 2:11:41 PM by Kaslin

News flash: Prices are going up. They are going up broadly across many products and services. And they are going up quickly. Inflation is here. It's already bad, and there are many signs that it could get worse.

In the wake of this news, resident Joe Biden has announced that he's committed to continuing with his massive new government spending program. It's hard to overstate how crazy this is. The good news for Republicans is even amid all their problems and disarray, with his reckless and rigidly ideological spending plans, Biden may soon be passing them political power. The bad news for America is we are all likely to suffer from it in the interim.

The federal government is on an unprecedented spending binge. Even before Biden took office, the government passed COVID-19 emergency spending bills totaling: $8.3 billion, $192 billion, $2.2 trillion, $484 billion and $868 billion. Some of this was justifiable. COVID-19, and the government restrictions that came with it, devastated many businesses. But much was also wasted.

By the time Biden took office, there were signs that the economy was beginning to recover. There were also signs that the direct payments and enhanced unemployment benefits included in the COVID-19 spending bills were reducing the incentive for Americans to go back to work. They would make more staying home and collecting benefits. On top of this, the federal government was passing emergency spending bills faster than they could even spend the money. With a full $1 trillion in prior federal emergency relief still unspent upon his taking office, Biden nonetheless pushed through the so-called American Rescue Plan, an additional purely partisan $1.9 trillion COVID-19 spending package.

In total then, the U.S. government spent more than 30% of the country's annual total economic output to try to stimulate the economy. This was unchartered territory. Many on both sides of the political aisle warned at the time that all this government spending could overheat the economy. Larry Summers, Treasury secretary under President Bill Clinton and National Economic Council director under President Barack Obama, summarized the concerns succinctly: "While there are enormous uncertainties, there is a chance that macroeconomic stimulus on a scale closer to World War II levels than normal recession levels will set off inflationary pressures of a kind we have not seen in a generation, with consequences for the value of the dollar and financial stability ... Stimulus measures of the magnitude contemplated are steps into the unknown."

The White House response to those on all sides of the political spectrum who dared to question them was withering. Inflation was just "transitory," we were told. Ten months have now passed, and we have the answer. The White House was wrong. Inflation has not been transitory. It's here, and it's getting worse. This week, the Consumer Price Index was up 6.2% from a year ago. Prices are up across the board. Energy costs are worst, with heating oil up 59%, gasoline up 49% and natural gas up 28%. Food prices are way up too: Beef is up 20%, pork 14%, fish 11%, eggs 11% and chicken nearly 9%. And many other categories are at or near records: Furniture is up 12%, new cars 9%, used cars 26%, TVs 10%, hotel and motel rentals 25%, car rentals nearly 40% and the list goes on.

These are real price hikes hitting real Americans' pocketbooks. Summers' warning that we could see inflation not seen in a generation may have been viewed as hyperbolic, but it has come true. The price increases announced this week are the biggest since 1990. They were driven by many factors, but excessive government spending was a major one.

Biden's response is hard to comprehend. He wants to spend more. Even in a world of bizarre and radical policy proposals like open borders and defunding the police, calling for additional massive new government spending as we are seeing inflation spike to record levels is hard to fathom. Biden has always been a liberal, but he was not known as a wide-eyed radical. Yet what we are seeing today is truly radical. It's putting ideology over all else. The left wing of the Democratic Party may want to transform America into a much more socialist country, but all this spending as record inflation is already setting in is the opposite of sane.

Why doesn't the White House understand this? As with every White House before them, Biden and his staff are now in an insular bubble that's hard to penetrate. They spend their days speaking mostly with each other and those on the outside who share their worldview. They coax each other into believing crazy things. They think they can get away with saying there's no inflation and then saying, "Sure, there's inflation, but it's just temporary" and then saying, "Well, OK, there is inflation, but it's actually a good thing, and what's more, a ton more government spending is going to fix it."

The corporate media's zeal to prop up Biden as the antidote to former President Donald Trump is now being tested. Will they report at all on the radical nature of what is being proposed? Will they call out the administration's contradictions and inconsistencies? They have begun to break the dam just a little bit. They should all remember that in the end, there is no amount of bias or even Big Tech algorithm censorship that's going to hide this truth from the American people. People are not dumb. They see prices going up. They see government spending now permanently pegged at emergency levels. They sense that something is not right with all of this.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Confirms Illegal Immigrants Can Sign Up for Taxpayer Funded Payments
Townhall ^ | 11/16/2021 | Katie Pavlich
Posted on 11/16/2021, 2:01:25 PM by SeekAndFind

Testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday morning, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed the Biden Administration is encouraging illegal immigrant families "separated from their children" to sign up for taxpayer funded relief checks.

"We recently launched a website where families who were indeed separated can register for relief. We are working very closely with counsel for the families. We are working with the government, the nation's of origin to accelerate the provision of passports for parents who do indeed want to come here," Mayorkas said.

It’s outrageous to offer massive, taxpayer funded financial payments to illegal immigrants who broke our laws.

We’re in the midst of a record shattering border crisis that the Biden administration has created. #BidenBorderCrisis pic.twitter.com/rKvNjOx5Xb— Sen. Grassley Press (@GrassleyPress) November 16, 2021

Two weeks ago the Wall Street Journal reported the Biden administration plans to issue $450,000 checks to each illegal immigrant who makes a claim of separation.

"The Biden administration is in talks to offer immigrant families that were separated during the Trump administration around $450,000 a person in compensation, according to people familiar with the matter, as several agencies work to resolve lawsuits filed on behalf of parents and children who say the government subjected them to lasting psychological trauma," WSJ reported. "The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family, though the final numbers could shift, the people familiar with the matter said. Most of the families that crossed the border illegally from Mexico to seek asylum in the U.S. included one parent and one child, the people said. Many families would likely get smaller payouts, depending on their circumstances, the people said."

President Biden responded to the report by calling it "garbage."

Three days later, Biden changed his position and said the government should do provide compensation to those who have broken the law.

"Because of the outrageous behavior of the last administration, you coming across the border, whether it was legal or illegal and you lost your child, you lost your child, he’s gone, you deserve some kind of compensation, no matter what the circumstance," Biden said.

As a reminder, children were often separated under the Trump administration when it was unclear adults illegally traveling across the southern border with minors were actually their parents.

“If there's no documentation to confirm the claimed relationship between an adult and a child, we [separate] if the parent is a national security, public or safety risk, including when there are criminal charges at issue and it may not be appropriate to maintain the family in detention together,” DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said at the White House Monday.

“We also separate a parent and child if the adult is suspected of human trafficking.  There have been cases where minors have been used and trafficked by unrelated adults in an effort to avoid detention,” she continued. “And I'd stop here to say, in the last five months, we have a 314 percent increase in adults and children arriving at the border, fraudulently claiming to be a family unit.  This is, obviously, of concern.”

President Biden's job approval rating is down to just 36 percent in a new Quinnipiac University poll, signaling trouble for Democrats as they head into 2022.

-snip-

Biden gets his worst reviews on his handling of the economy and foreign policy, with 34 percent and 33 percent approving, respectively. Fifty-nine percent of respondents say they disapprove of his handling of the economy, while 55 percent disapprove of his performance on foreign policy.

Just 37 percent of respondents say the president has good leadership skills, compared to 57 percent who believe he does not.

$450,000 Is Apparently Not a Lot of Money to President Biden and His Minions
Townhall.com ^ | November 18, 2021 | Armstrong Williams

It is not often that I read news that leaves even me so dumbfounded that I need to fact-check it. Even after my thorough fact check, I had to send the article to my production team to make sure I was not going crazy. Yes, the story in question was, in fact, true. What was the story? A Wall Street Journal report titled, "U.S. in Talks to Pay Hundreds of Millions to Families Separated at Border." The article details a plan put forth by the Biden administration to pay immigrants who were separated from their families up to $450,000 per person. Yes, you are reading this correctly: per person, not per family.

As I dug further, this story became even more troubling, especially when compared to other forms of government compensation. How much does the family of a fallen soldier get paid? $100,000. To put this in perspective, if you die serving our country, arguably the highest honor an individual can do for their country, your family will be paid $100,000. In general, that seems reasonable. However, if you openly defy our country's laws and cross the border illegally and are, as a result of breaking the law, separated from your family, you will be paid $450,000. To reiterate, the Biden administration is contemplating a payout of $450,000 per person. That means a family of five will be paid $2,250,000 for breaking the law. A fallen soldier's entire family does not even make one-tenth of that. So much for giving your life for your country.

How about the average salary of an American worker, which is approximately $52,000? The median salary is far less, at under $35,000. American workers work every day, tooth and nail, often 10 or more hours a day, seven days a week, to earn that money. Cross the border illegally, though? You can earn more than eight times more. Where is the disconnect here? Am I missing something?

It is no question that resident Joe Biden has been openly endorsing illegal immigration with both his words and actions. Just ask those crossing the border illegally. They will tell you that Biden told them to come. What exactly is the plan here?

Biden took an oath to "defend America from threats foreign and domestic," yet as we are faced with a threat never faced before, he is taking a back seat and eating ice cream on his weekend trips to Delaware. In July of this year, nearly 200,000 people were reported by the Customs and Border Protection Agency as crossing into the country illegally. Keep in mind, this is only people who they "encountered" and does not include those who crossed undetected. In short, more than 1,200,000 people have entered our country illegally since Biden took office. Despite this, has Biden even visited the border? Of course he hasn't!

As a student of history, I recognize the fact that "history repeats itself." There are countless examples of how lack of awareness of history led to grave consequences for nations before ours. If we do not study history and learn from it, we are bound to fall victim to the mistakes of the past. That is why the crisis at the border is so troubling to me.

Reading the history of the ancient Roman Empire, we see clear parallels to the state of our country today. Famously, Germanic tribes and people from neighboring states entered Rome illegally, seeking refuge in what was, at the time, the greatest empire in the world. The result was that the Roman government began to prioritize the needs of the vast amounts of new noncitizens at the expense of the Roman citizens. What happened next? Inner turmoil, despair and, finally, civil war. The final outcome was that Rome fell. Are we heading down the same path?

I pray for this country, dearly, and I pray for our president, sincerely. It pains me to watch my beloved America fall victim to a tragic past, especially given the fact that it is entirely avoidable.

Why is this happening? The truth is we have disillusioned and incompetent leadership across the board. Our leaders consistently fail to recognize the true wants and desires of the citizens of this country, all the while prioritizing those entering illegally or those overseas. I am not suggesting that we be cruel to foreigners or those who immigrate to this country. All I am saying is that one should not be at the entire expense of the other. Our government -- and any government -- has one simple task: to look after the safety and security of its citizens, always with an eye toward the future. If we continue to fail at that simple task, our government has betrayed its people, and we are doomed as a nation.

LAST REFUGE OF A SENILE SCOUNDREL
Powerline ^ | 17 Nov 2021 | John Hinderaker

It takes an epic level of chutzpah for a president to do his best to suppress production of oil and gas by blocking pipelines and putting federal lands off limits, and then complain when the prices of oil and gas rise. President Biden achieved the ultimate absurdity by blocking production of petroleum products in the U.S, and then begging Russia and Saudi Arabia to increase their production to bring prices down. This is a level of cosmic stupidity that we may not see again in our lifetimes.

There is more going on than sheer incompetence, however. The truth is that the Democrats want oil and gas to be more expensive. They have been admitting as much, in their more candid moments, for the last twenty years. This is a key part of their grand design to force the rest of us to depend on expensive, unreliable and environmentally damaging “green” energy.

The Democrats’ problem is that no one can run for office on a platform of, “The price of gasoline is up 43%! Home heating is up 80%! I did that! On purpose. Because I think it’s good for you to pay more!” On the contrary, “I did that” is a rebel meme along the lines of “Let’s go Brandon!”

So Democrats have to lie. Joe Biden’s latest lie is a whopper: he wants the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the oil companies for “anti-consumer behavior.” This is truly pathetic....

Biden nominee for top bank regulator has shoplifting history....that's the good news. The bad news is she's a marxist and doesn't believe in private banks existing at all.

"In a recent paper “The People’s Ledger,” she proposed that the Federal Reserve take over consumer bank deposits, “effectively ‘end banking,’ as we know it,” and become “the ultimate public platform for generating, modulating, and allocating financial resources in a modern economy.” She’d also like the U.S. to create a central bank digital currency—as Venezuela and China are doing—to “redesign our financial system & turn Fed’s balance sheet into a true ‘People’s Ledger,’” she tweeted this summer. What could possibly go wrong? -WSJ"

Biden Asks China to Consider Releasing Reserves of Crude Oil in Effort to Meet Supply Demands: White House
The Epoch Times ^ | 11-19-21 | Katabella Roberts
Posted on 11/19/2021, 9:52:00 AM by MNJohnnie

The Biden administration has asked China to consider the possibility of releasing reserves of crude oil in an effort to meet supply demands, the White House said on Thursday.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a press conference that members of Biden’s national security team have “discussed with a range of countries, including China, the need to meet the supply demands out there.”

“But that is an ongoing conversation and one we’re having with a number of partners,” Psaki told reporters.

Other major consumers that the administration has allegedly held such discussions with include India, Japan, and South Korea, Reuters reports, citing several people familiar with the requests.

Biden raised the issue of releasing crude oil stocks during a virtual meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Tuesday, Bloomberg reports.

A spokeswoman at China’s National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration told Bloomberg that “the bureau is carrying out crude oil release work at the moment,” however, it is unclear if China already had plans to do so or if the move was prompted by Biden’s request.

“We will release more details on the volume of oil and date of its sale on our website in due time, just like we did in the first public auction,” said the reserve bureau’s spokeswoman.

If the release goes ahead, it would mark the first time that China, the world’s second-biggest oil consumer, and largest importer, would be involved in a coordinated release with the United States.

Both Beijing and Washington share joint concerns over the increasing prices of oil and fuels as well as rising inflation levels, which are currently at their highest level since 1990 in the United States.

The joint discussions hope to bring stability to global energy markets and come after crude prices reached a multi-year high last month.

China tapped its national stockpiles this year in an effort to bring domestic crude oil prices down. In September, the country held its first-ever public auction of oil reserves to a select group of domestic refiners.

Meanwhile, Biden’s requests to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase production amid declining supplies and rising energy prices have been rebuffed.

The White House put pressure on OPEC back in August to boost production of oil faster, stating that its prior July agreement to boost production every month by 400,000 barrels per day starting in August until November was “simply not enough” during a “critical moment in the global recovery.”

But OPEC and its crude-producing allies, OPEC-plus, on Nov. 4 instead agreed to maintain their plan to gradually raise crude production by 400,000 barrels per day each month, viewing the economic recovery as too unstable to justify more supply.

The 13-member cartel is planning to phase out the rest of the production cuts instituted in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and collapsing demand.

“The meeting reaffirmed the continued commitment of the Participating Countries in the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) to ensure a stable and a balanced oil market, the efficient and secure supply to consumers and to provide clarity to the market at times when other parts of the energy complex outside the boundaries of oil markets are experiencing extreme volatility and instability, and to continue to adopt a proactive and transparent approach which has provided stability to oil markets,” OPEC said in a statement.

The United States has the world’s largest reported strategic petroleum reserve at 727 million barrels whereas China does not release information regarding its strategic reserve levels, although Consultancy Energy Aspects earlier this year estimated that China’s state oil reserves hold about 220 million barrels of crude oil, which is the equivalent to 15 days of demand.

If China and the United States agree to take joint action on crude oil, the move could have an impact on the global price of oil.

Fact Check: Jen Psaki Says Lower Income Taxapyers Will Benefit from Raising SALT Cap
Breitbart ^ | 11/18/2021 | John Carney
Posted on 11/18/2021, 3:45:44 PM

CLAIM: Raising the cap on the amount of state and local taxes, known as the SALT cap, that can be deducted from income for federal tax purposes would benefit lower-income Americans. “Those with lower incomes would be able to fully write-off state and local taxes,” Whitehouse press secretary Jen Psaki said in a press conference Thursday.

VERDICT: False. No low-income taxpayers will benefit from raising the cap on state and local tax deductions.
