Bond films should be made along the lines of the Bourne movies

No stupid comedic one liners and gimmicks

Real fight scenes, the scene in the hotel room afer Daniel Craig had killed the two black guys in Casino Royale and he was downing whiskey and staring in the mirror trying to compose himself was a pretty realistic reaction to what had just happened.

Do we want Bond to be realistic though?

For many, Bond is all about Witty oneliners , Class and Gimmicks

I watched it up till the point where he's in some Barbados type island and pulls some black bird from the club. Took her back to his place. I ended it right, there. Not even sure if they ended up shagging. It's not the fact that she's black. It's the fact that the script had to interject that in there for the sake of Mr Goldberg's idea of what modern romance should be.

If things weren't shoved down our throats: we'd be a lot more willing to accept things. Character development/back story of this woman prior to Bond deciding: I know - out of all the attractive women out there: I'm going to pop on a moped with some whore that could possibly be linked to local thug crime tourist robbery group. No thanks, Mr Goldberg.

Haha, that was the only realistic scene in the whole movie. They should have filmed him having a panic attack as he scrubs his penis with antibacterial soap in the morning.

LMAO. Imagine that. That'd be worth a Bond film alone. Brutal, yet true.

Casino Royale was Daniel Craig's best bond movie. And the best of the franchise IMO. It was not woke either. He was kicking and killing black ass all over the place. First the Parkour dude and then the black warlord / drug thug in the hotel stairway. And the ball torture scene was also not PC.

The scene in Miami where he prevents the plane from being destroyed was fantastic. The Parkour scene was also great. I liked the card-playing scenes also. Overall a perfect Bond movie.

Agreed. Guy was(/is) a sickkunt. Cool af, good looking, smooth....
I liked Dalton too and his movies..
Moore was a fucking joke. At least the Bond movies he was in - were. Tf is with those cheesy kids-cartoon-like sound effects?    *boing*  *pewwoooop*  wtf  ::)
I couldn't stand Craig in the first couple movies.. but I guess he grew on me / I got used to his ugly mug.
I think it was his first or second Bond film and I was like "wtf is this shit?! No Bond theme song all movie and the only car chase lasted for 5 seconds before he rolled his Aston like a shitkunt?! I'm done with Bond".

Oh and - hi Taff.
Craig's first Bond film, Casino Royale, was the best of the entire franchise. He was never able to match that performance in the subsequent films. But his other movies were still good. I did not care for his last movie.

agreed, it was also two stories in one
It could have ended where Bond had retired with Vespa but then she stole the money and it was all go again...

Stopped watching Bond a while ago since the latest movies have been too woke

Sean Connery was the best Bond imo

Roger Moore made Bond his version with more humor

Lazenby/Pierce Brosnan/Timothy Dalton were ok

Was hoping Henry Cavill could become next Bond
My favorites were Connery and Moore with Brosnan being pretty good as well. Didn't like Dalton and never saw the Lazenby film. My problem with Daniel Craig was that it was too woke and Bond was no longer a ladies man but more of a Simp which of course Hollywood loves. He also physically was short. blonde and stocky as opposed to tall, dark and handsome (no homo).

I get that Bond in the novels wasn't witty or funny with his one liners but for 40 years of film he was and changing to a serious guy with Dalton and Craig just ruined him. I think they just need to drop the Bond movies and we can enjoy the old movies for years to come.

That's exactly what they did become with the Daniel Craig ones and it made them just run of the mill action films rather than James Bond films.

The success of the franchise was launched by the American Brit-mania of the 60s and kept alive by the fact that people were basically starved for entertainment until the internet ripened.

They are the McDonald's of movies. Same every time, unremarkable, unsatisfying. I dare you to watch any of them from the 60s, 70s, or 80s and explain how it was so good it justified another. People paid and sat in movie theaters to stare at these plainly ridiculous wastes of celluloid.

I know. James Bond is a tradition and yada yada, but go watch one. You'll be so fucking bored. They suck.

You are right in the sense that it does follow a formula and they are not high art, or even middling art,

But conversely that is the franchise's greatest strength - McDonald's is a decent analogy and it's still going strong and highly profitable, if not exactly nourishing for the body and soul

Or put another way, it's like the quote from one of the AC/DC members when they are mocked for every album sounding the same : they are proud of it, saying it's like your favourite beer, you don't want it changing flavor every year, people like it how it is

The Bond movies work - at least for a lot of people, myself included - if understood on the basis of their intended premise: simple escapist sometimes ludicrous fun with hot girls and guns and action and locations e.g. The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldenye, augmented by a superficial self-mocking veneer of 'class' (nice suits and lame one liners) along with a now healthy reservoir of 60 years of goodwill and nostalgia.

And ultimately it's only a couple of hours every few years at the end of the day, so plenty of opportunity inbetween to delve into French noir films with 20 minute scenes of people staring broodily around dark corners (I've seen a few of those, see my username) and uttering deep pontifications on life's essential meaningless. That and WYHI threads on getbig

TLDR: You're kind of right and you may find them boring and not your cup of tea, but they are sugar hit films basically, nothing more or less, and infrequent enough that they don't wear out their welcome

After all those previous Bond chases, this feels like a nice countryside drive on a Sunday.

Considering how much this chase cost, it's truly stunning just how dull and danger-free it is.

This scene never feels like a chase. More like a glorified Aston Martin commercial.

I think Daniel Craig held the most James Bond records in malfunction/error gadgets...

This chase has always struck me as as a chase they'd try to pull on Top Gear, not a major Bond film.

There are more gadgets in a single Johnny English movie than all Bond movies with Daniel Craig combined.

I liked this movie more than most, but watching this makes me understand other people's views. A car chase should not be this calm. It comes off as a boring commercial.

Pierce Brosnan fixing his tie would forever be the epitome of coolness.

If you ever watched any interviews with Brosnan, he always carries that "I'm sexy and I know it attitude" with him. But somehow it doesn't irritate in the least, it feels natural and honest - like it's just how it is. I think it's exactly that kind of energy he got selected for the role. No obligatory roided up upper torso scenes, no oiled biceps flexing. Just class and charisma.
