Gary Strydom (eventual WBF champion)

I can't find the routines for "The Dark Angel", Aaron Baker, "The Iron Warrior", Mike Christian, or "The Phoenix" Vince Comeford on YouTube.

Their routines on the Team Andro link are located at 15:05, 29:50, and, 37:20, respectively.

Was Strydom better than Haney from the front? He has my Vote.

Thanks for the fun trip down memory lane, McWay.

You're welcome.

I really thought bodybuilding had finally hit the big time, when the WBF came to fruition:

- $100,000 prize money for the winner; Haney only got $60,000 for his 1990 Olympia win and $80,000 for his 1991 win.
- Bodybuilders featured every week on WWF Superstars and Wrestling Challenge.
- Quick contest results; the WBF Championships highlights occurred one week after the show vs. 3-6 months later in the magazines.

Even decades years later, the 1991 WBF Championship looks better than some Mr. Olympias have in recent years.

Bodybuilding was so huge in 91.  Being in South Jersey, our small gym rented a full sized school bus and we all saw this in Atlantic City in person.  BB was still on ESPN and the Mr. O was a big thing that folks got real excited about in the gym.

You got to see this live, what luck.

I don't remember this being advertised on PPV or I would have tried to watch it. I only saw the highlights on WWF Superstars a week later.

I did get to see the 1992 show, though (cost me $15) :(. It was the first bodybuilding show I'd ever seen on the day it actually occurred.

Bodybuilding was on ESPN but you had to wait until 2 or 3 am to watch it most of the time.

Plus, you got to see the contests 3-6 months after they happened. They did have "Bodyshaping", first with Cory Everson; then with a team of Rick Valente (Mr. Florida), Kiana Tom, and one other girl. Lee Haney had his own show as well; my favorite was when he had Debbie Kruck as his co-host.

I already put up the Team Andro link on the previous page, mainly because I couldn't find the routines for Christian, Baker, or Comeford on YouTube.

And (just before the proverbial hammer came down), there was WBF Bodystars, which is where I saw more of the posing routines from the 1991 show.
Some had no commentary; others, as I learned later, had Vince McMahon voice-overs (including the infamous one with Stardom).

Finally, I thought, bodybuilding was on TV every week, not every three months at zero-dark-thirty in the morning.

Promos for the 1991 WBF Championship, aired on WWF Wrestling Challenge and WWF Superstars.

I didn't see the episode of Bodystars with this clip, back in 1992.

USA Network aired WBF Bodystars. But SkySports in England aired the show there, which was called WBF Bodystars America.

Some UHF (and apparently, from this clip, VHF) stations that aired WWF wrestling also aired WBF Bodystars America. Back in the day in my home, the Tampa Bay area, channel 32 aired this at 4:30 pm vs. USA airing Bodystars at 11 am.

That worked for me because I didn't have to ask my mom or stepfather to record it for me anymore; nor did I need cable in my room to watch it either.

Mike Christian's 1991 routine @ 32:45 :

Thanks! This was one of my favorite routines. Some have argued that this was his best shape ever. Others claim it was the 1990 Olympia.

He's not as cut in 1991 as he was in 1990. But, BOY, does he look bigger, fuller, and healthier.

If this is FIBO and it's about guest posing, I wonder why they didn't let Lex Luger flex next to the WBF pros.
