Juneteenth has been celebrated by black people for decades. Basically, it's to commemorate when black people in certain states were informed that slavery had been abolished.

There wasn't any real push to make it a national holiday, not even during the 8 years of Obama. Only because of this George Floyd crap did this even get the national light of day.

Basically, all the Dems (and squish Republicans) did was give themselves another day off with pay. To my knowledge this only affect government workers.

The last Juneteenth festival I attended was in 1994. Basically it was just a picnic with good food and a softball game. It was on a weekend (as is this one, June 19th). So of course, the politicians gave themselves a paid Friday.

They were (legally, at least) already free. Word didn't hit all of the country for a while, though.

As stated earlier, the celebration has been around for at least 100 years, usually in the form of a glorified outdoor barbecue.

But all this national holiday stuff is the Dems' simply using this to pay government workers (including themselves) not to work again.
