As I sit in my study having a neat glass of Glenlivet, I ponder what could have been. I wonder what happened, and how the luster has left the sport of Bodybuilding since our friend and ally left us. Rich had a genuine love of the sport, loved seeing people happy, gave his all and would give the shirt off his back to anyone that asked.
My favorite Rich Piana story was when I was in Columbus Ohio for the Arnold and Rich was walking around with his crew. He stumbled across some kids that were starstruck. Just looking at them you knew they were in financial trouble. These kids were about 13 years old and there were four of them. Rich ran back to the car ramp, grabbed his SUV, came back and loaded the kids up on supplements and t shirts. It was like Christmas for these kids.
We lack that now and it saddens me. I know, I know the smart comments are going to start flooding in. Yes we have members that are trying to be the new "Robin Williams" and they fall terribly short. Then you have the jealous types on here with their perverted, vulgar humor and just plain inconsiderate remarks.
Just imagine what Bodybuilding would be like if Rich Piana wouldn't have died.
