Wow. Nice find; I'd heard about that for years... :-\.
Supposedly, he had some underlying health problems that should have kept him out of the fight in the first place...

thats a very disturbing video....

yeah it is. It was his, and as far as im aware his opponents first MMA bout. The winner never fought again after this
-
no, not a lot of people have died. however we can all work to change this by having more gladiator type mma fights, that would be pretty cool!
-
thats the attitude im looking for! ha ha ha When UFC was initially brought to our attention, there were so few rules it was basically all in. Big John was only there to pull the guys off if they couldnt stop themselves - remember how Orlando Weit got KO'd! Now it is a licenced sport based on the safety rules that were enforced on the owners, so i doubt that the US will ever sanction an all in MMA fight again

Believe it or not, the first 2-3 UFC's, McCarthy did NOT have the authority to stop a fight. They ended only if the guy submitted, his corner threw in the towel, or if the dominant fighter stopped after an obvious win. McCarthy went to the promotion and refused to officiate any more if he didn't get the authority to stop the fight...

I've got a lot of respect for Mark Kerr, his first fights was bare knuckle mma in brasil and they were pretty rough! he came there with his wrestling background and got bloodied up and was victorius!
It can't be all that easy to wrestle and then all of a sudden startin to get hit in the face with no gloves

thats what im talking about, he was only there to stop people being killed. In Orlandos qualifier for that tournament he booted the shit out of his opponent and literally had to be dragged away from him if memory serves me

while its disturbing that he died the shots that guy in the video didn't look anyworse the most of the finishes in pride of the ufc. in fact i've the refs allow the fights to go on longer then they should so i believe this could happen again in pride or the ufc.
-
he died cos he had brain damage prior to the fight, hence why he was blacklisted from fighting in the US or anywhere that is medically sanctioned.

IMO, GSP killed Hughes and maybe put him in retirement! Does that count?
