No news, but had to print a post about him.
This guy was wonderful and the greatest strongman of all times.
Just look on your`e tube, he destroys Kazmaier and Capes. When he died in 1993 it was the greatest lost to the world of weight lifting ever.
He had the charisma of Arnold S and a great personality.
A four time World Strongest Man winner.
I will ad a few pictures,
I`m glad that there has been made a movie about his life, from his friend Arnasson.

he didn't, Sigmarsson was strong but Kaz and OD Wilson were both stronger.
-
this dude was awesome to say the least, he is 4 time winner of WSM, he was a very charasmatic champion.
He also added huge amounts of personality into competitions.
RIP THE VIKING

Look at your tube 1987, Pure Strength and tell me about it!
-
He destroyed Cape and Kazmaier in 1987.
If you don`t believe me watch you're tube!!!!!
-
Kaz was past his prime at that point and was competing with injuries all the time

There was no WSM competition in 1987 :P
-
Looks like he was strong and had fun living his dreams.
-
He beat Wilson at the 1990 World Strongest Man contest, and Magnus ver Magnusson won over Wilsson in 1991!
-
Saxon: I never said there was a World Strongest Man contest in 1987, there was a contest named the strongest man of al times!
-
He beat Wilson at the 1990 World Strongest Man contest
if it's the contest I'm thinking of, it came down to a final event between them. Wilson had beat him earlier in the events that required brute strength. They had to run around a track with a weight on their backs in the quickest time. There was no way in hell 400 lb Wilson could outrun Jon Pall Simgarsson. Even the other comeptitors felt Wilson deserved to win that year.
-
jon pall was one of the best but he did'nt beat o.d. wilson he outran him what kind of strong man event was that!!!!!!!! kaz was is and always will be the man.
-
jps was a great champion, but save paul anderson, kaz may be the strongest ever.
-
that deadlift pic is crazy. anyone know how much weight is on that?
-
id say the sport of strongman has evolved a lot the last 10 years so i doubt your old heros kaz etc would have anything on todays giants
-
Pure "Strength" indeed 8)
-
Jon Pall was indeed a great strongman competitior, but he wasn`t stronger than Kaz.The "Pure Strength" contest he mentioned was a contest held in Scotland between JPS,Kaz and Capes.and yes JPS did win,but it was after Kaz was coming back from injuries.I ordered these dvds a few weeks ago and in the first one you can see how much smaller Kaz looked in relation to when he used to compete in the WSM,but in Pure strength 2,he looks massive and back up to size. The following year in Pure strength 2,JPS was invited to compete against Kaz but turned the offer down, earlier that year Kaz had beaten him in two other strongman events. For me,the most impressive thing about JPS was his ability to compete as heavy as he did in the strongman events, but then he would diet down and get ripped to shreds to compete in bodybuilding contests.

Jon Pall defeated Kazmaier not only in 1987, but again in 1988 and 1989 look at the Strongest Man contest of that year.
And saying that he could only run faster than Kazmaier and Wilson is bullshit. On your tube he beats Kamaier in the log lift and the dead lift.

how exactly is that bullshit when Wilson beat him in all the events that required brute strength? The only reason Jon Pall Sigmarsson beat him that year is b/c they had to run around a track in the last event. Anyone who watched it knows how unfair it was. There was no way in hell 400 lb Wilson could out run him.

like i said before "viking" Jon Pall was very strong but HE WAS NOWHERE NEAR as strong on the static events as Kazmaier or OD Wilson, Wilson officially squatted almost 1000 pounds and deadlifted 895 and Kazmaier officially totalled 2420 in a meet, Sigmarsson never came close to those numbers.

FYI: JPS' best meet results (at age 24, shortly before becoming pro strongman):
SQ: 365 kg (805 Lbs)
BP: 235 kg (520 Lbs)
DL: 370 kg (815 Lbs)
total: 970 kg (2135 Lbs)

by 1987 kaz was past his prime. he won from 1980 through 1982, after which he wasn't invited again until 1988 (so your claim that jon pall beat him in 1987 is wrong). kaz at his best was a monster.
that would be like if ronnie coleman wasn't invited to the olympia after 2000, and then couldn't compete again until 2006 when jay beat him. actually that's a perfect analogy, same time frame and all.

I met the guy at Joensuu, Finland in -90, where he was for WSM- competition. I was training in local gym when he come there to do his workout, and I did have an opportunity to change few words with him. Very nice man, just like a common guy, easy to talk with. I was ending my bench press when he come by and ask me to leave weights on the barbell. Then he load there two plates per side and start his warm up, with my current 6 rep max + 80kg. I felt kind a weak after that...

OD's best competition pull was 876.3 lbs.

Kaz was a monster but so was Sigmarsson.

i beg to differ, i remember seeing a list of the all time best lifts at Superheavy in PL USA and it had an 895 pull listed for him.
