Why or why not? Would any of you be willing to attend a game? I was not a fan until I attended a game
-
hope not, it's boring

No more boring then baseball. Hockey is pretty boring also. Baseball in America is filled with passion and pride for ones team. I think if the same feeling could be applied to soccer it would work.

Bingo! But it's not gonna happen, can't just start up something like that right away especially when people's alligence are with baseball and football.
In Europe there aren't any rivals for soccer's market, it's a different case in America.

Exactly.

Uh . . . habla espanol? :) It is already apparently pretty huge in California, from a ratings standpoint. As the Hispanic population continues to explode, the interest in soccer will continue to grow IMO.
But I think it's dreadfully boring too.
-
I play indoor soccer it is prett fun. I think that if it was taken seriously and people attended a game that most opinions would change
-
I play softball every weekend and it's very fun. :) I doubt most people who didn't grow up watching soccer (and aren't transplants) will become fans of a game that often ends with a final score of 1-0.

I agree, I attended a revs game and my opinion changed. If people would give it a chance they might be surprised.

This is a good point. I think there is talk of changing the rules for American Soccer to provide more scoring.

Well there was a huge interest in the world cup here in NY. Everyone had something to say about Ziddane's headbutt.

Yes

Same deal here in Boston.....
-
any game you play is much more fun than watching it. soccer more so. i played tons of soccer growing up and loved it. i tried to watch one the world cup games last year. the entire game no one scored. and all the fans screaming their heads off. i don't get it.
Baseball can be slow, but not boring. i love watching a good pitching duel.

Good point, but the same could be said for a soccer fan, watching a baseball fan screaming his head of to a pitching duel ;)

agreed. i guess you just have to know how to watch the sport.
then again, a pitching duel isn't very exciting. it's like going to an art gallery, it can be beautiful but not "edge of your seat."
BBing is the same way. I've been to some shows that put me to sleep.

You put it perfectly. If mls can get people to appreciate a fantastic goal the way American apprecite the art of a heated pitching duel, or a brilliant 50 yard rush, they will be in business.
-
I think yes it will one day. Isn't soccer the most popular partcipant sport it the States amongst school kids? These are the kids that MLS needs to go after and to keep them playing and supporting soccer past age 13/14.
More americans went to the World Cup in Germany last year than any previous wc. There's a fanbase there, it just needs building on. Beckham will help do this.
Oh yeah, in a couple of years you'll get sick to death of hearing about 'posh and becks' believe me

Looks like some are already ;D
-
I would bone her hard however annoying the bitch is!!
Ya with me?
ta ta
-
It'll keep growing. More kids in the USA are playing it, those are the fans of tomorrow.
Add a latino fanbase.
The fact that it doesn't require to be a genetic beast to excel is important as well. Let's face it, blacks have a major advantage in basketball/am. football.
In soccer everyone can excell, so i expect it will become popular among asians, latino's and whites.

Never.
It boring.
Not enough scoring.
Americans like to score.
Score: touchdowns, baskets, weed, tail, etc...

any of you boys know if seattle has a team or detriot f**k if and state close to canada i would go to games
Not the D. We hate soccer here.
-
Nope, nope and nope. Soccer will never make it bigtime in Canada or the USA. Too many other sports that are superior.
-
I agree, never . . (please God, never).

the only two sports better are American Football and Baseball..the NBA and NHL blow moose dick---
-
Baseball is booooring to watch. You can keep baseball to yourself.

the only way baseball gets overtaken by soccer is if the limeys invade the U.S.---it's america's pasttime bub...boring or not. :D
-

The NBA was great in from 1979 to 1988. Hockey always sucked. They play 80 games to eliminate one team out of 32!

Try watching a one run playoff game in the late innings and tell me baseball is boring.
-
Try watching a one run playoff game in the late innings and tell me baseball is boring.
Never have watched that, so I suppose you're right.
-
Try watching a one run playoff game in the late innings and tell me baseball is boring.
Sure, that happens ALLLLLL the time.
-
No. Too much association with the soccer mom thing. It's though of as more a kids game in the us than a legit sport, like almost everywhere else.
-
Sure, that happens ALLLLLL the time.
It does. I take it you never watched a baseball game in your life.
-
I take it you never watched a baseball game in your life.
You'd be very wrong. Try to avoid blind assumptions.
-
Golf is 10x more exciting than baseball, which makes it about 100x more exciting than Eurotrash soccer.
GOLF, for crying out loud!
-
Hahaha you Americans just don't fucking get it. Football (you call it soccer) is just beyond your comprehension.
Your sports have been designed and modified so that people with sub 100 IQ's can enjoy them.
Football is the greatest sport in the world. NOTHING compares.
Rugby > NFL too.
Just watch the flow in an international rugby game, outclasses NFL immensely.
-

Right, most of us here cannot comprehend why those of you in the Third World can get so excited about something that's so boring.
You need more excitement in your lives.
And personally, I'd be more than happy to go watch 'Americanized' soccer (larger goals, more subs), meaning that the international game would benefit as well.
-

Get off your high horse American. The most civilised group of countries on Earth, with thousands of years of history, inventions, art, music and genius's is hardly third world. Let's not forget we created you.
The points made about there not being enough goals in football just says it all, and fulfils another American cliche.
Nothing compares to Italy beating Germany in the last minutes of a game with 2 great goals.
Nothing compares to sitting on the edge of your seat during an entertaining world cup final. NOTHING.
-

(emphasis added)
Two words: "soccer hooligans"
-
Galileo Galilei
Sir Isaac Newton
Einstein
Alan Turing
Leonardo da Vinci
... etc etc ...
Invented everything you'll ever need too... so yes...
Europe is the most civilised group of countries on Earth.
English football has no rivals.
-

Yes!!!!
ta ta
ps Hooliganism is not really a problem here, the Dutch have just been thrown out of the UEFA cup, they have big big problems.
-

Are you talking to the many africans onhere?
Like with any sport, you have to get "into it" before you can start to appreciate it.

The fact that the biggest championship in your world can be decided by penalty kicks is what makes it so laughable. That would be akin to the NCAA basketball championship being decided by a free throw shooting contest or the World Series being decided by a home run derby.
If you played sudden death overtime until a winner was decided, Americans would have a lot more respect for your sacred little game.
-

Please.. In the last 100 years the United States has been the defacto super power that shits all over your continent. Europe is America's lapdog.

Shit, I totally forgot about Europe inventing God! ;D
Penalties are a great. Deal with it. Football is infallible.

Ok buddy, so what exactly have US nationals invented recently that's so great?
The computer? NOPE!
The jet engine? NOPE!
French fries? NOPE!
Rocket? NOPE!
You have the plane and a bunch of shitty sports whom's sole influence was European based ::)
Football is God.
-
Football way more popular than anything you lot can come up with and its gonna take over!

its an easy think about football (soccer) you either like it or you dont there is no in between

You either like it or you're a gay or retard, or both.
-

no, because we have so many great sports... and football is unmatched... our attention is all used up, they would have to make soccer more interesting to get attention in America. like turn loose a pissed off bull on the feild. then another every period. I might watch that. :D

The soccer league called the MLS won't make it because the way it has been run has caused curious sports spectators like myself who even gave the NHL a good chance to become a league I could have followed long term to be disinterested with it's unwatchable play. The failure of meaningful sports leagues such as the USFL makes it difficult for a MLS type of league to succeed long term. The XFL experiment also made the problem much more worse than it should be to make a league that is not historic become long lasting.
