Title: Mayweather savages 'fat' Hatton
Post by: Diesel1 on February 06, 2007, 07:59:20 AM
Listen to his rant here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/sol/newsid_6330000/newsid_6332600?redirect=6332699.stm&news=1&nbwm=1&nbram=1&bbram=1&bbwm=1)

Boxing great Floyd Mayweather has savaged Ricky Hatton's talent and hinted that he could delay his retirement to fight him in England.

Hatton is desperate for a fight with Mayweather, who was expected to quit after facing Oscar de la Hoya in May.

"Ricky Hatton ain't nothing but a fat man. I'm going to punch him in his beer belly," the American told BBC Sport.

"He ain't good enough to be my sparring partner. I'm retiring in America, that don't mean I'm retiring in the UK."

The 29-year-old later back-tracked on the possibility of fighting Hatton, but it is clear that Manchester's two-weight world champion remains an irritant to him.

The Michigan native is unbeaten in 37 fights, is a former world champion in four weight divisions and is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

His match with WBC light middleweight king De la Hoya, a former six-weight world champion, is set to be the most lucrative non-heavyweight fight in boxing history.

Hatton regained the IBF light welterweight crown from Colombia's Juan Urango last month, but Mayweather was unimpressed by what he saw.

And he was incensed at Hatton's suggestion that he was the more exciting fighter of the two.

Mayweather said: "I've only seen Ricky Hatton fight one time and that was against Urango and he looked like garbage.

"All he can do is punch and hold, punch and hold and wrestle. It's obvious that his fights are not more exciting than mine.

"And guess what? He said he was going to come to America and do 5,000 seats, but 5,000 people come and watch me train every day.

"Nobody even knows Ricky Hatton. He came over to America and nobody even came to see him fight.

"I could come to England and fill up the same stadium he can fill up. He ain't getting money like me.

"When I retire, I'll get Ricky Hatton to wash my clothes and cut my lawn and buckle my shoes."
 ;D

Hatton, 28, is unbeaten in 42 fights and is set for a meeting with Mexican veteran Jose Luis Castillo in June.

If he can come through that encounter unscathed and Mayweather defeats De la Hoya, clamour for a fight between the two later in the year would mount.

De la Hoya, meanwhile, has also indicated he would be prepared to fight Hatton in England.

The 34-year-old from Los Angeles said he would come back down to welterweight if Hatton was prepared to move back up.

Mayweather would annilihate Hatton. His last fight on HBO was not very impressive. Despite the number of KO's on his record, I'm not convinced that he has legitimate knockout power. He could not put his last opponent away when he had him hurt.

Mayweather is too good, too talented, too fast, and still in his prime. It would be no contest. With Hatton's come forward, press the action style, Mayweather would pick him apart in less than 6 rounds with constant sticking and moving.

I agree. Hattons style is made for Mayweather. His last fight against urango was a little disapointing

Mayweather hasnt always looked so impressive either. Hattons style would be a problem for Mayweather. Zab Juda aint no Hatton thats for sure.

and i'll take De la Hoya over Mayweather as well. more so if Flyod senior agrees to train Oscar.

Gotta disagree with you there, chief. True, Mayweather looked too laid back and not aggressive enough against Baldomir but he was fighting basically a C+ fighter. I don't think he ever perceived Baldomir as a legtimate threat so therefore he didn't rise to the occassion.

De la Hoya will bring that fire out in Mayweather because it will be the biggest prize fight of his career on the biggest stage.

Mayweather over De la Hoya in a unanimous decision.

Honestly, I think Zab Judah, if properly focused, could take out Hatton. What's this big hard-on people have for Hatton? I don't get it. Other than wearing out a tired Kotza Zu(whatever his name is) a year ago, who has he fought before and since that fight that's name worthy?

we are witnessing the aging of Mayweather right before our eyes IMO. it can happen over night. I think De La Hoya will win a decision, unanamously.
and they will fight again being that the pay per view money will be so huge, they have to. too much money to not have a second fight.
i just cant see Mayweather pitter pattering around De La Hoya for all twelve rounds. De La Hoya can box with the best of them. and he has a nasty left hook.

i really hope he wins, he signed an autograph for my little sister like ten years ago a day after he beat Chaves. nice guy. but really i do think he is better.

isnt that what they said about Jeff Lacy  ::)

Ricky was embarrassingly bad, ive never seen him fight that bad at his natural weight but dont write him off. Go on youtube and check some of his old fights. Hes a 10 stone beast, and when he is on song there isnt anyone who can hang with him for pace and power. He was written off against Tszyu and he destroyed him for 11 rounds. A lesser fighter than the legend would have given up well before then, but in the end Tszyu made the right decision and quit by his own choice whilst he could.

What about Lacy? Calzaghe (a white boy, happy to say!)tore him a new asshole. What's your point?

Hatton would be owned by Mayweather. End of story.

Outside of Tszyu, who has Hatton beaten that is name worthy outside of a few limey pollukas in England?

Every since he's fought for American audiences, he's not looked so good.

Ageing? He's 30 this month and keeps himself in tremendous shape even when not training for a fight. How is he ageing?

any fighter can age over night. ive seen it many times, one fight they look great, the next fight they dont look as sharp and their performance just continues to slide a little more. Roy Jones Jr. is a good example, so is Fernando Vargas.
Mayweather is a top tier fighter, dont get me wrong but dont look for him to be so dominant for long against other truely top quality fighters.
and keeping yourself in shape doesnt always translate to reversing all the years of boxing and training. taking breaks which is what De La Hoya does give you a chance to recuperate. he did this before all his fights in the past five years or so. yes he did get crushed by Bernard Hopkins, but he never belonged in that weight div. its way to heavy for him.

Okay, i'm not trying to be a jerkoff here but.....

De la Hoya is going to be 34 by the time of the Mayweather fight. So by your logic, De LA hoya is ancient when it comes to boxing years. If you are telling me that De la Hoya is not the same fighter because of apparent dimished skills(or ageing as you like to call it), how does he stand a chance against Mayweather who is 4 years younger and still at the top of his game?

I think if this fight took place 3 or 4 years ago, then I would say Oscar has a legitimate chance. But in the year 2007, Mayweather is the superior fighter. It won't be close, bro. Mayweather by unanimous decision.

Hell, I think Oscar knows this in his heart of hearts that he's going to probably lose. He's doing it for the pay day, plain and simple.

Do you honestly think he thought he had a chance to win going into the Hopkins fight at 160 pounds???? Fuck no! He wanted to collect on the $20 million pay day.

no worries, i know where youre coming from.

the point i was trying to make is that De La Hoya has not fought very consistantly in the past five years. he takes time off to rest and recuperate, then trains his ass off and focuses on the fight. he generally fights once every year and a half. for some reason this seems to work for him. yes he is older than Mayweather but i really dont think his skills have deminished that much.
yes Oscar is older but he doent fight like he an old boxer (yet, you never know when a fighter can get old which is also kinda my point) i believe we are seeing that in Mayweather however, from his past few fights.

i dont think Oscar feels he will lose, as competitive as he or any other fighter that has held a belt for as long as he has (Mayweather included of course) they will always feel they have a good chance of winning at best, if not be completely confident as the least.
Oscar has always made fights personal, he truely dislikes his opponents. he hated Vargas and did not hide it and he crushed him.
i honestly think he thought he could beat Hopkins. i think his legacy is more important than the money. he will make more money of his Promotions and real estate when he retires.
do you want Mayweather to win? or are you being objective? just wondering

Truthfully,

I want Oscar to win because Mayweather needs to be taken down a step because of his mouth. Do I think it will happen???

Not a chance....

Well, my mistake. But he might not be one of your boys but you did write Hatton off, only to be humbled.

Mark my words, if the event ever occured Hatton would humble Mayweather.

We'll see, Mayweather however is too much of a coward to fight Hatton. He can't even stick to his guns in an interview.

If it ever materialises we'll have a bet $$!

he didnt say shit to him when Ricky confronted him in the crowd at a fight last year. Ricky simply said hello and wanted to talk, Floyd gave hi shit and walked away. Ricky would have killed him

If Floyd drops to Rickys weight he will be slaughtered, we all know Ricky struggled with the extra bodyweight. I wouldnt fancy Ricky at WW, but LWW he would walk through him for as many rounds as it takes to beat him

I can't wait for De la Hoya to snap the "pretty girl" in half with a left hook to the body.  :D He is the most obnoxious prick in boxing at the moment.

Atheist,

Who do you like? What do you want to do about the over/under on the rounds?

Or do you want to take the winner straight up? you need 2 to 1 odds at least. Have you seen the Vegas line?

Or....what do you think is fair?

"Kostya was a member of the Soviet military too, but since he was selected as an elite athlete, he did not have to participate in any wars.

He fought at the world championships once again, in Moscow in 1989, where he came in third place.

In 1991, he went again to the amateur world championships, this time held in Sydney. This was a trip that would change his life forever. Not only was the third time his charm, but he felt enchanted with the sights of Sydney and its people, and decided he wanted to live in Australia.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1992, Tszyu escaped from the Russian army and fled to Australia with his girlfriend, where they married in 1993 and became Australian citizens. Before marrying her, though, Tszyu had already turned professional, beating Darrell Hiles by a knockout in one round on March 1, 1992 at Melbourne."

It also says his family grew up sharing a flat with another family in Russia and he had to sleep on the floor
