How many people have heard of this?
Is there any truth to this phrase?
Many times someone would say, 'HE gots that 'old man stregth', it just comes with age...you just get stronger ...'
... Do humans grow stronger naturally after a point in thier life?
-
I know retard strength, but not old man.

The power to hold down small children?

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=man-strength (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=man-strength)
Here is what google came up with....
1. man-strength
Used to describe the suprising ability of older men (e.g. your father in his 40-50s) to out-lift, out-drink, and generally out-work younger and more physically fit men.
I thought I could take my old man, but seeing him move that couch today I have to bow down to his man-strength

Oh, I get it now.
Hell yeah, my Dad can still own me when we goof around and I try to kick his ass. Big ex college linebacker mother fucker.

I believe in it. I've seen old dudes in their late 50's to early 60's outlifting young guns. Most recently in my gym, there was this guy, I would say he's around 56 yrs old or older. He was doing some incline press with 350lbs for 5 reps like it was nothing and then he asked for a spot when he went up to 405lbs for a single. The dude has been lifting all his fcuking life or something

kind of a fluke.
shogun landed badly and hurt his elbow.
could happen to anyone.
-
Let's see, could be considered an old man(49), and can out-lift most of the 20 - 30 somethings at my gym with no problem. Bunch of pussies.

Is that what you used to call it when daddy would pin you to the floor and fondle your genitals after coming back in from the tool shed??
-
yeah i heard of old man strength. but our term is "grown man strength" but its the same thing.
-
I read in some medical book that as we age our muscles get smaller and our connective tissue gets larger. So maybe having larger connective tissues, tendons and stuff actually make one stronger, but probably less flexible.
-
I totally buy it.
My dad will be 58 this June and I can outlift him on anything in the gym. HOWEVER, when we box, wrestle or jus goof around, he kicks my ass. And it's not from my lack of trying. I think that it is one thing to be stronger on a trained exerise through a prescribed range of motion, and that's all well and good. A life of hard physical labor, I think, gives a person another kind of strength. He grew up in the country and has done hard physical labor all his life.
I have too, but to a lesser degree. I have friends that can out-lift me, but years of splitting wood, throwing hay, and other outdoor labor shifts the odds a little.

My sister was going out with this guy who thoguht he was a real bad ass, one day in front of my house he got lippy with my dad and my dad came at him..he high tailed it so fast it was funny as hell, I was only about 10 or 11 and I remember my dad walking back in the house looking at me and saying "what a pussy"
