With the clown-show in the Branch Warren video bringing the very notion of "hardcore" into disrepute, I thought it might be possible to re-examine the concept from a different angle.
Sam Fussell opined that, to be truly great, a gym must have a 180-pound dumbbell in it. But I don't think even the Gold's where Jay Cutler works out goes that high.
EDIT: According to FLEX, they made a 220 just for him. Aww...

Currently 100s...
I've been doing a lot more benching (Flat and Incline) because of it...
I'll have to join up at either the World Gym or the Gold's in Venice because of it too... sucks... 'cause my current membership is free.

they go up to 160's
..at my other gym.. 180's

We have them up to 110 at one gym that I work out at and 160 at the other gym. Incidently, the gym with the 110's has only 8 members, 5 of which bench over 450 raw and one over 500. The gym with the 160's I dont think anyone can do even 405. Interesting.

The highest is currently 80kg (nearly 180 pounds) but there is a huge pile of bars and little plates near the rack so you can diy for heavier bells
(why the f anyone wants to make 200 pound bells is another Q!)

110 more or less, the gym doesnt have more than this...BUT they got a kind of bar where you can put the plates and i think it can go at least to 160 maybe...i never used it tho

They did have Olympic dumbbell handles for adding weight and you basically could put on what you wanted...but idiots kept dropping them and throwing them which was breaking plates so they took them away...
It isn't that bad actually, just have to do most of your workout with a barbell or smith machine.

130's, I've inclined them for 4 or 5 reps. At one of my old gyms they went up to 180's but nobody used them, I used the 150's for shrugs once but they were just very awkward.
When I was a teenager there was a "hardcore" gym I used to go to and this dude used to throw around the 180's like they were nothing, repped with 405, he broke a ton of state powerlifting titles...problem was he weighed about 450lbs and stunk to high heaven.

Very few gyms outthere goes more than 130lbs with dumbbells, most gold's I've seen have dumbbells in the range of 130's to 150's. but I know a couple gold's in florida around the fort lauderdale area that have 200 pounders and these gyms usually have a couple Pros that workout there. I think it depends on the gyms, sometimes management have to accomodate these pros. If I run a gym, I would get as many equipments as needed. shit, If I have guys that can lift 200lbs dumbbells, I would buy it for the gym. I see a couple gym rats in my gym that are complaining to management to increase the dumbbells to 170lbs, right now we only have 130's.

205 at my golds,and they have dust on them..

I work out in a semi-private gym, a converted former auto body shop. The DB's go up to 220lbs (bar about 3 ft). If you add industrial magnets to the end plates, you can probable get to 240 or more. Very few guy's bother using them for flat/inclines, too much of a pain in the arse. Really need two spotters (probably 4, 2 on each side for extra caution). Lot of extra bother for 2 to 4 partial reps, in my view. Mostly used for row's, partial Hi-pulls and shrugs. Good Luck.

At the gym i workout at we had the highest 120s. some fatfuck guy that was semi retarded was doing shrugs with them and dropped them every set and fucking broke them. they werent even paid for by the gym someone else brought them in.

xertek in a-town pa has 200 lbers ronnie c used them when he was in town.

140's however about 4 people use them i use them for shrugs and db rows but i can only get about 4 with good form. the benches at my new golds suck. the rack is to high and sticks out to much so you tend to hit it when you bench.

My last gym, 130lbs (Worlds), the gym before that, 160lbs (Powerhouse)
Any of you guys know a good place to buy dumbbells larger than 100lbs? Maybe some of you that own a gym know a good source. Trying to find a place that sells and ships them for cheap, or at least, a reasonable price.
I'm thinking my best bet is to order them locally (play it again sports) and have them shipped to the store I'm buying them from.

Gold's Redondo Beach 150's (when they aren't broken)
Gold's Venice I believe has 200's but they are the version with a bunch of plates fused together as opposed to the ones that are one big mass of weight. It makes a huge difference as the larger the dumbell is in physical size, the harder it is to control.

many gyms won't go higher than 100 - 120 pound dumbells because they don't want big guys training at their gym
big guys scare small or out of shape people and they don't want steroid use anywhere near their "gym"

I train a a hardcore gym that has dumbells up to 200lbs.
I also train a a planet fitness and their dumbells go up to 75lbs ;D

(whenever i build a site for a gym, i ask for a free membership. they see they'll be able to hand me updates when i'm there, so they usually hook it up).

Don't feel tiny I am at 19.8% bodyfat. It takes fat to be 275 for me. I don't care to compete in bb. just in PL and Strongman.

It's all genetics I am the runt of my family. My old lifting partner was 290 and about 6'3''. no matter how long he took off he always can bench atleast 350. Some guys just have it easy I am in the middle of the road.

The whole point of a DB Row is to contract and pull with the lat, not swing the DB up and call it a row as I suspect this person is doing.
I'd love to see someone row this on a flat bench, contract the lat, and hold the DB at the top of the rep.
