The second a foreign Army stepped one foot on this country I would have no problem dying in it's defense.

we'd be side-by-side in the ditches, by friend.  Gunning down the bastards who dare attack our soil til they got us.  That is defense, and every american has that duty.

What's weird is that

1) We declined to let the UN troops guard these street corners, right after the war ended.

2) We continue to decline letting the Iraqi forces take over, even tho they've been training for 2 years.

Instead, we let US soldiers die everyday.  I don't get it.

If they kicked in my door in the dead of night, pointed their automatic weapons at my hysterical wife, and made me kneel in the street while they ransacked my house, I don't think I'd be overly interested in their motives.

The problem is the number of terrorists who have infiltrated the so-called 'security forces'.  We cannot and never will be able to tell them apart.  It's up to the Arab peoples to out one another and so far, most have refused to do that, even if it threatens their own safety and security not to.

Well, it's their country, and their risk to take.  I wouldn't expect canadians or iraqis or frenchies to helo out if we had terror problems here in America.

Also, much of the resentement is because of us.  You pull the american influence out of it, and perhaps some of them will settle down.

It would make alot of insurgents very unhappy.

Yes.  Not questioning your patriotism.  I believe you love your country and support the troops.

Just making fun of the completely unrealistic hypothetical.  I think the odds of foreign invaders crossing Canada or Mexico or some ocean to attack us are about the same as space aliens starting a War of the Worlds.   :)

Then i don't have to worry about much  ;D

I agree however, it will never happen.  For another country like Russia to invade and supply and army across the pacific is highly doubtful.

So yes it is unrealistic, but that's where i stand with it ATM.

I should also add that i would have no problem dying for my country in WW2 and Afghanistan.  But not Vietnam or Iraq.

I hear you.  I have a different view.  If I sign up, my loyalty is to the country and the Commander in Chief.  I may not agree with every decision, but I'll put my life on the line in service to my country, whether others believe the cause is just or not.

The question in my mind wasn't IF i signed up if i would be willing to die for my country.  I thought the question was "would you die for your country".

If i had signed up, i would follow through with my commitment i made regardless of how i felt about it.  That's the deal one has to understand before they join the military.

Fact is,  i would die trying to help my fellow troops.

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Note which comes first and which comes last.  :)

The President has already publicly boasted of acts found by the judicial to be a criminal violation of the Constitutional prohibition against unreasonable search and seizure.

So are you going to defend the Constitution by bringing him to justice? Or are you going to obey the President's orders to violate the Geneva Convention?
