How about some good things that have happened in Iraq. The Iraqi people have gotten the chance to participate in free and fair elections. They now have a free press, and no longer live in fear of their government. Saddam Hussein and his murderous sons, Uday and Qusay, are dead; likewise Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the former leader of al Qaeda in Iraq. Water and power services have been progressively restored and expanded, medical care has been greatly improved, and convenient technological advances, such as the internet and cell phones, have been made more available to the general public

Weird last time I checked it was so bad that surrounding countries were closing their borders. Iraqis are seeking to get passports to hightail it out, but the offices are closed so frequently and stocked full of people it is near impossible. Kids still are not in school, and if they do go to school their fathers have to go on a mission impossible run and take them to a school 30 miles from where they live dodging alleys and taking routes away from major roads. Seriously post something worthwhile on this board, you expect us to believe that in a time of war and bloodshed things are better? Better for whom the US ok then, but not for Iraqi civilians, who's doors get busted down every other day.

For more than 4 years following the 9-11 CNN and other major media outlets used a disgusting form of selfcensoring, believing it was in somehow "patriotic" and that being "patriotic" was their duty.
Slowly, the media is starting to wake up, and starting to report like they usually do.
But for some years, you wouldn't see any killed american soldiers, any dead Iraqi children, any suffering arabs, or similar "anti-war" images in the media.
It was a form of self-imposed McCarthyism IMO.
I don't believe the government had anything to do with it, there's no conspiracy behind the lack of coverage like some conspiracy theorists would like to believe, but self censoring is even worse.

Here International water care and sanitation department says that "people are still lacking basic facilities such as power, clean potable water and sanitation" also power.

No these people don't hold a candle to horse trainer.
CNN, and Dateline have both done news stories on the subject of power and water. When Saddam was in power the electricity and water would go off for hours, since the US is in power it goes off for days, and weeks in some areas.
We have seen the pictures of the Transformers being put in place and the large power lines being built, but then they are never finished, some how the budget runs out, and next thing you know you have a swimming pool where a traffic light is supposed to be.

Much of this stuff is common knowledge:
- There have been free and fair elections.
- Saddam and his sons are dead.
- al Zarqawi is dead.
I have spoken to people on the ground in Iraq and watched a DVD of construction of hospitals, parks, schools, military/police training, etc.
MM if I were you I wouldn't waste my time trying to tell people on this board about good news in Iraq. I don't think they want to hear it.

What I find ironic, is that most of the people that are defending the Iraqi's, or any muslim nation for that matter, because they feel it is their duty to make sure human civil rights prevail, think that if we offered democratic freedom by way of the US Constitution to any of those nations, they would PURPOSELY try to kill it off because that's NOT what they believe in.
I'm not being discriminate against Muslims, especially the hot Pakistani girls that I know here, but based on their beliefs and doctrines, the Civil Rights activists and supporters who want to save them, would be killed off in a minute by the same group of people they are trying to save.

I think you will find that most at RS do not say things are going great in Iraq, but that the MSM is overzealous in its reporting of negative events while less than eager to look for positive stories
I still say Let's Wait to put up that 'MISSION ACCOMPLISHED' banner.
Let's downplay our successes until they are real and seem lasting.

Military Muscle... I'm Canadian. I don't have this if you ain't with us, yer against us mentality that you do. I'd rather think for myself and come to my own conclusions whatever side of the fence they may fall. I don't really watch any of those news stations unless I'm traveling. But I do read... stuff like the below, as well as the odd book, etc... and I think it's fanciful dreaming to expect the people of a tribal culture who have no problem with the idea of avenging some family honor wrong commited three hundred years before to suddenly "switch" to democracy overnight. The war in Iraq is far from being won. However, it is not lost -- provided that we at home have the stomach to continue this long fight to a successful end. Signs are (tentatively) encouraging at this point, and, as Petraeus has said, by summer we will know a good bit more.
You don't know how to read. Writers can write any story from any spin angle. It's up to the reader to figure out what is fact. Your factual post has a lot of holes and a lot of unsubstantiated blah blah in it. And doesn't sound like even this author believes in the fluffy clouds and unicorns you keep trying to sell.

Watching DVD's of the "50 S. Koreans" in Iraq is garbage. I believe ONE Korean has died for this war...........based in Bush lies.
Ask yourself........where are all the Generals involved in the war? Gone. Head of the CIA....Gone. Defense Sec. Gone. Why did Colin Powell leave? Answer: He figured it out also.
It's soooooooo damn obvious, but people are still blinded. (just a few left)

One of my beefs is how the media and many people do nothing but bash the war and by extension the military (either directly or indirectly). I'm a huge supporter of the military. It's a big part of my life: friends, neighbors, church members, members of the community. We have a very large military population in Hawaii.
My closest friend is on the ground in Iraq. He has actually expressed some of the same frustration that you have. I know there are a lot of our men and women who are probably disillusioned. Seeing your buddies die will do that. The constant negative drumbeat at home doesn't help. Fighting an invisible enemy with no clear end in sight doesn't help.
We're not going to agree on Bush. But I think we both support the troops.

We want them out of danger. The war requires they walk up and down target lane and wait to be blanked. That's not good, IMO. I'd prefer they be in trailers watching screens, and firing missiles and anything that gets within 5 miles of the pipeline, bases, or border. I want them to stay alive.

No, I think you misinterpret what I say.
I never said our soldiers were losers. For you to make up that line speaks volumes about you. Their lives were lost in the pursuit of stronger US position for resources - global positioning and oil/natural gas. I showed you, using your own article, that life is not great in Iraq these days and it's a little early to be celebrating in the streets.
