Title: welcome to the republican party
Post by: kh300 on April 03, 2007, 09:51:57 AM
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many
others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal
Democrat, and was very much in favor of the
redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was
a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the
lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional
chat with a professor, she felt that
her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he
thought
should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on
his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more
government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by
her professors had to be the
truth and she indicated so to her father. He
responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let
him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she
was taking a very difficult course load and
was constantly studying, which left her no
time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have
time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many
college friends because she spent all her
time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing ?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes,
she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so
popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all
the parties, and
lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung
over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why
don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him
to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to
your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and
certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's
suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really
hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot
of hard work! Audrey has done next to
nothing toward her degree. She played
while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, " Welcome to the
Republican party."

This young woman is currently a moderate republican.

When she gets a rifle and forces Audrey to do her homework while she enjoys cigars and brandy, she becomes a neoconservative.  Or, "neotaint", as they reek like the supple taint they so meticulously latch onto.

republicans believe in hard work and earning where you get in life.

democrats simply want everything handed to them by a government program.

I didn't read anything in that quaint little fable about warmongering, hate for everyone that is different, trying to impose insane religious beliefs on everyone else and showing your son your penis so that he won't be gay.

Maybe the author of that genius level story just decided to ignore those facts.

I assume you meant "your" and not "you" since the way you typed it doesn't make sense. I realize three word sentences are a difficult proposition but if you try a little harder I know you can do it.

Thanks for reinforcing the stereotype.

Wow think to yourself. What if? What if you were given money to go back to school and finish where you left off (6th grade I'm guessing) and continue your edumacation, then you can come back to me and talk bad about government programs that Democrats have put in place to make America a strong nation. The proof is in the pudding...Bush has dumbed down America.
So Democrats want to see money help others, how do you explain this war? Who has it helped? You?

Perhaps it hasn't helped him but it has helped make a select few VERY VERY VERY VERY wealthy. It's curious that you never hear neotaints talk about how wealthy certain groups are growing because of this war. Their mantra is Liberals want to increase welfare and tax everyone to death.

Most of us don't want to be taxed more either but there are some shady people getting awfully wealthy from this war and the neotaints don't want to deal with it.

Another point none of them want to deal with is who the hell is going to end up paying for this war? Our debt is expanding exponentially because of this insane war and will have to be settled somehow.

I'm seriously not trying to belittle you but is that the best you could come up with? Hugging Patrol? Come on, at least make sense when you're defending yourself.

It shouldn't surprise me, but it always does.

People lump together people as democrat, republican, conservative, liberal...

As if it is a country of "us against them".

We are all in the same boat together and the government doesn't care about it's people.

Why do you think it takes multimillions of dollars to run a campaign?

It is all about the power trip.  Once that person gets into power, they forget about the little people called the voters.

Doesn't matter which party is in office, they are one in the same.

Nice, you're getting better. Care to comment on a few of my points regarding certain groups growing even more wealthy via this war or how this war is going to be paid for?

Or do you just want to bash Liberals and their "agenda" to increase welfare and sit on their asses and have the government take care of them?

There is a lot of truth to this.  Candidates often run left and right in their respective primaries to get the support of their base and then run to center in the general.  You then have some angry liberals and/or conservatives when their party gets into office, because some (or much) of what they campaigned on in the primary is forgotten.

All analogies breakdown.  This one shatters right out of the gate.  Are grades the same thing as tax dollars?  No.

Progressive income taxation is a staple of America endorsed by Adam Smith.

Why progressive rates?

Because those with the strongest arms do the heaviest lifting.

You don't ask your mother to move your barbells to the attic (unless you're Steve Martin) and you don't ask the poor and middle class to pay the same rate as the wealthy to maintain our american infrastructure and societal needs.

Thank you.  I take posting here very seriously and really respect the opinion of people who do not agree with me.

The way I see it, we are here in this forum to see what ideas work and which don't.  If I can have someone change my mind about any topic just from debate, I'll be better off for that.
