You are young huh? Victor richard was really famous in 80s called Mr.big.
-
No he's not competing today.
-
I saw a guy named vic richards online. His stats said 5'10 370 lbs. In competition it said 330 lbs. Thats massive. His photos looked pretty good, but I'm wondering why isnt a guy like that competing, and if he is, why isnt he winning?
Any have any info on this guy?
Yo Victor.
Whaddup dawwg?

I think he might even be bigger than Greg Kovacs.
-
Physically he was superior to 99.9999% than all all the bodybuilders of all time
Mentally he was superior to .00999% of all the 3 year olds at any given time
-
why didnt he win an olympia. can someone shed some more light on what happened
Becuase he would have been smoked off the stage by Dorian.
-
I worked out at Golds Pacific Beach in San Diego during the 90's and Vic Richards would come in to work out as well as Nasser, Jim Quinn, and I did see Greg Kovacs in there on occasion when he was in town.
Vic was very big but nothing compared to Nasser when viewed side by side.
Kovacs looked like a big bag of shit tied together at both ends. Huge gut, very lean but looked as if he was filled with gelatin. His face was twice as swollen as Jay Cutlers and he seemed to be on so much GH that he was about to sprout a horn out of his head at any given moment.
The biggest guy offstage and in the gym was Jim Quinn. I know onstage he couldn't match up to some of the top guys but in the gym he was the biggest guy I have ever seen.
As far as personalities go Vic spoke to no one unless he knew you. Jim Quinn was a friendly guy and Nasser was very friendly as well as smart once you got to know him. He wasn't much for small talk but he was a good guy once he got to know you.

I met Greg Kovack and he was a big guy and muscular wise. His shoulders looked like they were blown up like baloons, I think Richards has him in muscle pound for pound (just by pics though). He looks as thick as Rosie Odonels cheeks...but muscle not blubber!

True dat..... ;D
I met vic back in the day he was one big mofo...Why didnt he win the O????I believe he competed in some local shows and that was about it..He never turned pro....
-
No, he doesn't compete today...didn't compete yesterday...and probably won't compete tomorrow.
-
Maybe you guys should ask BuffGoddess... they train together up in Portland...

Chick hit it right on the head....all hype and nothing to back it up.
Speaking of Jim Quinn, Whatever happened to him. IMO he was one of the first true mass monsters. He trained like an animal and seemed like a really nice guy.
-

Looks like his contest record is pretty good.
And he turned pro on his first attempt....a few less times than it took you.
Why all the hate? You should be happy you never had to compete against him.

Who are you to question Mr. Geriatric Olympia? :D

I was wondering the same thing myself
If I recall, I think he suffered some kind of back injury. Not sure what happened after that
-
Last I saw Jim Quinn he was living in NYC with his girlfriend. Lost a lot of weight, looked smaller but healthy.
He had a neck injury of some sort that was exacerbated by a bad chiropractor.
Nice guy, very smart, well read..

Never had to win the Nationals or the USA or he would still be trying....pure speculation that he ever even got his pro card.
No hate, just stating the truth.....as for competing against him...please...he was never in contest shape.
-
I wonder why he never tried competing at a high level.

I wonder why he never tried competing at a high level.
Because the mystique would have been gone...and the never-ending debate of whether he would have been the next coming of Arnold, or a middle of the pack bust....would have ended with his 12th place finish. His name would have vanished in obscurity.
Smart man....If he never competes...he never has to live up to the hype.

That's because Chicerillo wasn't/isn't a citizen of Nigeria; therefore, he didn't compete against the subpar bodybuilders (relatively speaking) that Richards did.
It's a good thing that he didn't compete against Richards. Had he beaten Richards, it would have been temper-tantrum time.
-
Pro or not, Richards obviously had unreal genetics.
Who do you think has the best "genetic make-up" of any bodybuilder (pro or not) that you've ever seen, Bob?

Thats a tough one.... we'll take it by era's:
Steve Reeves
Arnold
Danny Padilla
Dillett
Of guys that didn't make it:
Mendenhall

I wonder why he never tried competing at a high level.
My guess is that his ego would be crushed, from being defeated by smaller but better-conditioned bodybuilders.
I remember reading an interview with Rich Gaspari in MuscleMag, in which Gaspari claimed that he beat Richards in a teenage competition and Richards threw a fit.
Richards claimed that there was a conspiracy by the "powers-that-be" in the NPC to not place him properly, because of the guest posings gigs he often got, despite not being a pro. So, to stick it to them, he used his dual-citizenship status and won the Nigerian National Championships and was granted pro status, as a result.
He has not competed since that time. And, I don't recall any other Nigerian National champ being granted pro status. If I am mistaken about that, please let me know.

They'll be saying the same about you a few years from now. You only wish you looked as good as he did.
-
Always a few guys who look great in the gym but don't have the desire, or the balance, etc. Bill Petus, Gold's Venice, Larry Samuels Mid-City NYC. Huge.
Samuels, around 1980:

That doesn't even make any sense....try and keep up, please.
-
Vic.....would he....could he....etc...
The best thing he did was not compete. He made alot of $$$ just guest posing. Not sure if he invested wisely...but don't really care either.
A friend of mine used to be roomates with him back then & said Vic really hated dieting. He just didn't have the discipline & would rather eat.

Excellent point. Bodybuilding's Bruce Lee.
Saw him at a burger joint in Upland, CA once. 90-something. Yeah, he's huge, but no one ever mentions just how black he is. Pitch, this guy! Like deep space.

Amen to Mendenhall. I used to work at the Golds Gym in Agoura Hills for Elfie (IDK if she still owns it), and Matt and McDish used to come by. He was the freakiest guy I have ever seen. (Vic used to train there with the Barbarians during the Barbarians eviction from Venice). Vic was a freak, and hella strong, but Mendenhall had aesthics, mass, EXTREMELY small joints (his wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles) which made the long muscle bellys look even more exaggerated. Truly awesome. Too bad he never got it together. He dwarfed Gary Strydom whin Strydom won the Nationals. Too bad he was smooth.

At least Bruce Lee was willing to spar ANYONE from his day. Vic never competed. Chick did. Nuff said.

You forgot, Edgar Fletcher. Didn't you compete agaist him? The Dude had unreal genetics, yet couldn't dial it in. Also I think Darian Bond, who looked like a light skinned Flex Wheeler (albeit a short one).

There are a whole bunch....that's wy they were the worlds best at one point (or could have been...)
Shawn, Lou, Flex, Kevin, Chris, etc,etc....the list is long. I just tried to break it down to a few

East Coast bias... ;D
I was only a kid but I remember being at at seminar with an uncle and Mendenhall was crushing what I assume were d bols in his salad bowl at lunch... :-X
-
Fixed.
There was no reason for him to compete at the time. The only thing available was point tournament sparring, his top students, Mike Stone, Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris, whom he sparred with full contact were winning all of those tournaments anyway.
