It's ironic that you post a link from Fox News- they are just the kind of pro-government, anti-dissent, false newsmedia that repressive governments like.

I've been critisizing Chavez since day one:
There is definitely a lack of democracy in Venezuela.
A big problem is that foreign interests instead of trying to help the democracy, have tried to overthrown Chavez by force.
If you leave Chavez no other way but a totalitarian way of running things, what will he choose?
Would Chavez have avoided another coup attempt if he would've been more democratic?
I doubt it.
IMO, the Bush administration has itself to blame for a lot of what's going on down there. With a thorough support of Chavez and helping him develop a democracy, instead of helping out the criminal coupe makers, the situation would be totally different.
Hopefully, Venezuela will develop into a fullgrown democracy. It all depends on what kind of people will be in the White House IMO. If it's the same kind of chicken race idits like Rumsfeld... Then it will end with USA against the rest of the world.
If on the other hand, quality people with traditions in diplomacy, no matter if they're Dem or GOP, gets involved, then USA will be able to control the situation again.

Why the fcuk does Chavez have to go that route? :'(
International leaders needs to talk him out of it.

Definitely a bad move on Chavez' part. That's been a problem with some socialist countries. They need to realize that allowing dissent is important, and they shouldn't feel threatened by dissenting voices if the people truly want socialism.
In the U.S. we don't have this problem of dissenting voices in the TV media because there is no major TV news program that gets in-depth on criticizing the government or its policies. Corporate media supports corporate politics. And the citizens naively believe they are well informed.

Well said.
It does appear that in our own country consent is manufactured.
