This was the trend-setting back.

No-one had a back like this before. Just like Bannout did in 83.

Dwarfs Flex, and in his day, pecs and lats couldnt be touched, but hasnt got the deep etched detail Flex brought to the stage.

watch the 86 olympia broadcast from ESPN and see if you say that afterwards...haney hits a back double bi and Dickerson who was doing commentary goes "oh...oh, my goodness" he's dumbfounded, it's totalee awsome ;D

Haney had the greatest LATS of all time ....

Ronnie had the Widest

Dorian had the thickest

Both Ronnie and Dorian had much better lower backs , and bigger traps...so overall back development speaking ..yes they are 1 and 2 ...but in terms of just the LATS...

I never said Flex had best back.

Only that detail, striations and lack of looseness of the sort had never before been seen.

Best backs: Haney, Yates, Coleman.
2nd best backs: Franco, Bannout, Pearson.

Personally, I don't think anyone matched Yates on lats for one reason - he trained using the orignal Nautilus Pullover machine that gave him massively thick lats

The pullovers gave him the awesome width.  All that rowing is what makes a back really thick.

levrone on condition, dryness, hammy, glute, quads, delts, tris,...no, 3rd was correct.

couple of those haney pics were very obviously shopped wider, didn't really analyse the others. flex under heavy load (can't carry 400lbs with you on the stage), but a good pic. beckles - wtf? now that's what i call shredded detail. yates had the best combination of 3d density and thickness, size and width, dry, grainy, conditioned and comprehensive development from neck to waist in the back.
