Obviously , I would for sure. I go to a few shows now and enjoy it. I would also be very curious to see how many of those against drug testing don't buy tickets NOW or even attend pro events.
Look at this lil fella, he is natural and not too huge but look at the shape and cuts.

I wouldn't go to a show period. Certainly not a stringently drug tested event. If I went to a show I'd like to see something out of this world freaky. Pay to see a bunch of average looking guys pose? LOL that's ridiculous! If I go to a local show it's only to help out a friend, not to see the show as such. Boooooring.

LOL, my gf is a VP for a major bank and is kinda thrifty when it comes to this stuff. I chucked em out after we hiked and she actually asked me where they were when we got home. I gave the who knows shrug and moved on. Her's actually tore and she still wanted to keep it LOL. I kid her about this kind of thing.

The 94 asc PJ where 5 dudes had to carry him off? I was there that was bad.

Why is it that so many feel they would look "normal". I doubt anyone would be 260 and ripped but they would still look awesome overall. Howard

I know this is technically 'sexist' but whatever, I would love to see the women's side institute drug testing.
-
Doubtful, unless maybe he was a friend or I was training him and he bought my ticket. ;D

I wouldn't pay to see something I've seen countless of times before or see past champs look less "impressive" that they have in the past.
Pro bodybuilding is only interesting to me because each year you get to see a new freaky development. Yes, some have regressed too but if there is no novelty in the sport it will die. I know many will disagree and say they want less drugs in the sport but I don't believe it. More drugs, more BETTER drugs is what will keep pro bodybuilding even half alive. The "shock factor" is very important for the few fans that bb still has IMO. Without that it's dead.

The "sport" needs to back up about 20yrs.
The Gear that was taken back in the late 80's early 90's was bad enough.
Today it's deadly.

Fans would turn out in big numbers to see the Pros compete drug-free...but only once.
Kind of like going to see 'GI Jane' to see Demi Moore with a shaved head. Cool to see, but we prefer the version with hair.
Besides, there would be freaks like Ronnie and Lee coming in big and soft and cheaters coming in ripped as if drugs were never necessary.
I couldn't find pix from the 1993 WBF Championships, but maybe someone else has them. Other than Strydom, everyone else looked soft or beyond soft.

Exactly! Fans cry about the drug abuse but at the same time laugh at the "pathetic" drug free physiques the WBF presented. The truth is that pro bodybuilding NEEDS drugs to keep alive! The fans need the drugs to be kept in, preferably increased each year. Drug testing killed the WBF and would kill the IFBB. Even the 'competition only' drug testing at the 1990 Mr O was a mistake, which is why it was dropped. Fans didn't want to see Lee Haney 20lbs smaller. Imagine if they had implemented off-season testing too... dead!

Up the dosage! More, more, more!

how many would pay to see physiques similar to the pros of the late 1970s and early 1980s? lots of steroids but no GH, insulin and (little) diuretics. symmetrical, proportional, almost healthy looking. we could have that now without drug testing. judges just need to reward such physiques.

im sorry like, but i wouldnt pay unless theres a big bunch of freaks up there,,, theres nothing to blow you away.. youd soon get bored with endless nice lines and no fuck off huge size and unreal conditioning
on another note, most the audience are on somthing id say 80% and carrying quite a bit of size,,, why would they pay to watch somone smaller than themselves, albeit with a nicer shape, but small netherless?

Absolutely, and also if they got rid of the high contrast spot lighting and pro-tan. No need for that, just a plain flood light and maybe a little tan for the pale guys.

I think the "freaks" can make a promoter sell more tickets. They target part of the core bodybuilding audience.
On the other end you have more appealing and symmetrical athletes like Stan McQuay, Sagi Kalev, Mike O'Hearn, etc. which sell magazines, but would not fill a stadium.
This is basically the dilemma of today's bodybuilding. Unfortunately less and less people go to see bodybuilding shows. You only find friends and families of competitors at the shows. And if you live in the US, you hardly get an international perspective of bodybuilding, which results in an uneven picture of bodybuilding as a whole.
I think bodybuilding has a far greater potential for a far greater audience. But none of the promoters dares to leave his regional niche, which can be quite comfortable.
-
no
this is precisely why, in reality, the 70's bodies wouldn't attract an audience today.
people like to talk about all the problems with the gh gut, etc but when it comes down to it people don't want to pay money to see yesterday.
sport MUST progress, even if said progress ultimately destroys itself.
it's a bit like when tyson was koing everyone in the 1st round. everyone complained about paying good money to watch a mismatch, but yet they came in droves to watch subsequent mismatches.
if they actually wanted to see a boxing contest they wouldn't have paid for the tyson tickets. ;)
fans want to be amazed and shocked.
besides, who actually believes they're natural anyway? call me a cynic but i'd be a fucking idiot to believe these so called 'naturals' were anything more than second rate juicers.
but then, maybe i'm being too cynical. :-\ maybe dante's little fuckboy actually does bench 6 plates at 230 ripped for reps and is all natural. ::)

You're right. Pretty much the only people who want to see men with pretty faces and physiques posing are gay men and a small number of women. Even most heterosexual women have no interest in watching half naked men posing for them. Rewarding aesthetics and facial beauty over freaky muscle at bodybuilding shows would turn bodybuilding into male beauty pageants, and only gay guys, like "Earl1972", would appreciate that.
