Title: POLYGAMY!!!!!!!!! Who's up for it?
Post by: Al-Gebra on July 10, 2007, 10:59:06 AM
Last night I was channel-surfing, and HBO had a show on polygamy (part of the promotions for "big love," i guess) . . . and they interviewed some women who were living in "plural marriage." A couple of them looked exactly like your suburban MILF types.  Pretty, to begin with, carefully dressed, and they spoke like educated people . . . and they were very much in favor of it.

P.S. there were also some horror stories, but apparently they're from the 'far out' polygamists, not your everyday salt-of-the-earth types.

So, think about it . . .  how would you like someone to share the burdens/joys of being a wife?

From a guys point of view.
One wife is hard enough to handle, maybe a concubine or two but they may not be in the same house, when it comes to wives there can be only one (just like highlander) LOL  ;)

well, one wife is too much for most guys b/c, quite frankly, a lot of women in our great nation have terrible attitudes (probably comes from being spoiled as kids).  but these Mormons are all about hard work and living "right," so they're not going to give you half the trouble as a woman who wants to buy $1200 shoes and then say that you're always working.

Just met one or two... nothing to do with me  ;D

One at the gym, kept trying to tell me how terrible it was...then next thing I knew, on A&E there he was, polygamy special.  :-\ But I think it was because he couldn't take his life as it was.  :)

Plus, I volunteer a lot...

Nothing to do with paramedics...

You do love STella... finally you admitted it. But she is married, so...  :)

Algernon. I really don’t see anything romantic in proposing. It is very romantic to be in love. But there is nothing romantic about a definite proposal. Why, one may be accepted. One usually is, I believe. Then the excitement is all over. The very essence of romance is uncertainty. If ever I get married, I’ll certainly try to forget the fact.

Higamous, hogamous, woman is monogamous,
Hogamous, higamous, man is polygamous.

Everyone I have known in a triad, bear family, or polygamous relationship has broken up in short order.  That’s not to say it cannot work, but I have never seen it work for any amount of time that leads me to believe it is viable.  Among all the guys I have seen, such relationships are usually a prelude to a break up.  :(

It's kind of a stupid question for this forum.

Mormons, Muslims, Kenyans, etc... whose beliefs allow polygamy are already indoctrinated. To those women, it's a religious belief and modern (for lack of an appropriate word) women have no perspective on the idea. In those belief systems male/female roles are very fixed and a marriage has little to do with sex or attention from a man. And love is more related to how ones duties are carried out as opposed to romantic notions.

I wouldn't insult anyone's intelligence and pretend that polygamy doesn't originate from male dominated cultures where women aren't 'valued' by American/European standards but one has to wonder why/how it has worked so well for so long. I'll grudgingly agree that threesomes don't generally work well but they're mainly about sexual power. One can't legitimately compare a threesome (where one person is wielding more sexual power) to polygamy.

My guess is polygamy offends some North American women due to the fact that many women (due to their antiquated value system  :)) have found contentment performing what 'liberated women' consider diminished roles. Their concepts of what a marriage is have nothing to do with what typical North American women aspire to.

Wait unless the guys were able to go out and spread seed elsewhere. Men are not wired to share their  woman or women it goes against our natural instinct to protect and pass our seed along. I wonder if there is a stat for how many men have been killed by their lover's husband man or vice versa? I would bet it would be higher for men.

one of my exes was dating a guy, broke up, went out and got knocked up by dude, dude wanted nothing to do w baby, she gets back together w guy, marries guy while pregnant, guy raises her kid.  She tells me this, and I'm like WTF?

I really can't understand how a man can raise another man's kid . . . it seems to go against every biological imperative we're programmed with  . . . yeah, I know we're civilized now, and all that.  but I still find it remarkable.

I disagree with that.  I was primarily raised by my stepfather while I was young, and he is still as close to me as my own father.

Fucking respect those who can raise other people's kids.  I was dating a great woman who had two daugters of her own, and I treated them like my own, from day one.  Truth be told, I miss the kids more than the woman.

I say again, NEVER GONNA HAPPEN well not at 100% in each category! Actually I think you are on to something. Maybe you are the one that has finally uncovered the mystery of why men are dogs...? Maybe we are trying to find that same perfection in one woman, we just go about it differently than women do. We sleep with countless women trying to find one that will have the attributes you pointed out "intellectual stimulation, laughter (beer buddy) and handy around the house (bring the beer to us while we are watching the game with you)" yeah that's gotta be it! Women use their brains to find the perfect mate, Men use their other brain to find the perfect mate! Thanks Jaggy!

I say you should go for it. I guess the thing to figure out is if you could handle that much attention/responsibility. Those arrangements aren't just sexual and guys/girls are either choosing those lifestyles for religious or other reasons. A guy, for example, choosing to do something like that is probably very submissive. Submissive people need to be commanded, commanding several people (with low self-esteem) takes time and decidation.

There's also the emotional component. Talked to a girl involved in a three-way at one time in her life. Not threesomes, just a guy living with two girlfriends. She was miserable and actually would time how long he had sex with the other girl to make sure the times were equal. Eventually she got out of the relationship, my guess is the guy dumped her for having a bad attitude.

I'm sure your ego is big enough to feel you deserve that level of attention but can you really handle how much work it would be? :)

It's not about ego or attention, ...just satisfying needs. It's hell to be in a relationship with someone who is intellectually stimulating ONLY, ...or someone who is VERY handy around the house, but has the intellectual capacity of a doorknob.

She needed to be in a relationship like that. This is exactly the reason why she was so bitter and hostile. The girl had low self esteem and was bitter about it, LOL! She was actually very pretty and didn't respect the attention of nicer guys. I could have dated her if my life would have allowed the time to tell someone what to do and think all the time. I'm kind of lazy and someone like that needs a perfect attention:rejection ratio. My sense of fairness would never allow doing something like that unless there was the time to do it perfectly.  :) My life would never have had the time for two girlfriends or treating her like crap so she felt in line. Too much attention and you get the B-word, too little attention and you have a stalker. Before you point out the obvious.... Yes, there is actually a side of me that could do it but it's not as big a component of my personality as the side that loves simplicity.  :) That being said, I would definately pick a second girl that she could not get along with. :) Being able to hang out with my friends and spend alone time are important priorities. Their having someone to be occasionally pissed at would free up time for me and make threesomes more interesting/physical. :) It's a good thing that side of me is under control.

It is 100% about ego/attention, LOL! A woman/man thinks they are so interesting, complicated, sexy, sweet, cool, etc... that one person couldn't possibly satisfy their needs. Regular sized egos don't feel entitled to have all their needs met, even if it means taking on extra 'help'. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, only that you should be more honest with yourself. :P I just have a hard time believing you could find a guy strong enough to earn your respect who would go for that type of arrangement.

You feel what I'm saying, LOL! It takes a lot of dedication on the dominant person's part to give his/her subs proper treatment. Not saying I couldn't do it, only that I have other priorities. Those people need the proper mix of attention, control, disregard, sex, rejection, humiliation, etc... subjugating two women would cut into more important activities.  :)

Low self esteem has to be some kind of mental/emotional condition and you are right  "It takes a lot of dedication on the dominant person's part to give his/her subs proper treatment." They can't function apart from being dominated. If you think about it they are dominant when they seek to be dominated. Man this is crazy twisted! HM POOF!

You half get it. The dominant person has to give a lot of themselves to keep the sub properly submitted so they will be happy.  :) It has to take a lot of time and effort on their behalf. I doubt the additional relationship is really worth the effort. Having two people around with such specific needs must be exhausting.

Whether or not I deserve a partner of such high standards is irrelevant, ...the point is the heart, mind, body & soul wants what it wants, ...and I'm not about to try to fool myself into thinking it doesn't.

Now you have me thinking about my situation maybe I am the sub and my sig other and our (female roomie) are the dominants. I think I have been bamboozeled, runamuck, lead astray and hoodwinked!

Personal scenario: We (my sig other and our (female roomie) and I) have all agreed that I will make the money pay the bills and set aside for our retirement (my sig other and me) etc. in other words provide sustenance and shelter. My sig other's part/job is the homemaking and all that goes with that side of a happy marriage/relationship this is her security.  The additonal roomie does house work and other needful things  ;) for room and board this is her security. Damn what have I gotten myself into? My ego has definetly been stroked all the while I am in bondage, I have been deceived, I want a re-count! HELP DRKAJE!

My revised position on raising other men's kids:

If the father was discharging his paternal duties, but then:

a. Became a casualty of war.

b. Was killed for no fault of his own.

c. Succumbed to some deadly disease.

Then I'd step in and do my best.

Other suggestions will be taken under advisement.

Yes indeedy! FYI the roomie does baby sitting and house keeping jobs  and she recieves educational benefits from past military duty; I require that she helps with household chores and contribute to incidentals and sustenance. My fiancee has a monthly SSI benefit she recieves from a previous marriage to a fallen soldier and she is covered for insurance on her own end.

Let me clarify (so you won't think this is a polygamous arrangement) the roomie is not romantically involved with us in anyway she is just a friend of my sig other and lives in the dormer over the garage!

That's all we need, more MILFs sharing their view of what marriage is and how they live it.

I'm picky enough when it comes to finding one woman, much less two or three.

I just don't think I have the energy to contemplate it.

Possible, yes.  Probable, NO.

Of course, leave it to the Mormons and their women............because those middle-aged LDS housewives are the ones who tend to flirt the most in the supermarket, precisely because they aren't being satisfied at home.

Common and so, so predictable...   :-X

relationships are all about meeting certain "needs" that we cant do on our own. if we could all stand on our own two feet all the time and never rely on somone else, then what is the purpose? Life is too short. That said, I do much better on my own than in some half-ass relationship. Been there, done that! All or nothing for me.

..and im talking in general, not me specifically. these are the reasons one would seek companionship in the first place.

question dr- how does one meet all their own sexual needs?

Relationships are more about function, for me. Much cleaner especially considering I don't have a lot of emotional needs, in the traditional sense. As far as sex goes, there's not a huge difference between women in my mind. If the relationship doesn't work sex becomes irrelevant.

Yes it does. In Thailand, anything goes. The Monks will gladly marry any combination of a "Family" group.
Some Women in positions of wealth and power keep more than 1 man. Some pretty boy Thais service many of the older well to do Euro women that visit. Its a fact Bud. Kick boxer body builders in the gym W/ rich older sugar mama's.

Americans are So narrow minded and assume their ideas supreme.

These relationships are of course more difficult. Most men keep one woman here and one there. Although some live happily together as THe Thai muslims (minority) do.

The only way this arrangement is going to work well (Buddhists, Im not intimate w/ muslims) is if the girls are best friends, basically they are running the show and sharing the guy in all actuality. Affording this and dealing w/ the complications of these relationships ain't something many Westerners can hope to deal w/ .  Our Judeao/Christian based culture has way to much guilt, shame and "dirtiness" connected to sex and the human body to reconcile it.

You wouldnt believe some of the stuff Ive seen, and my wife tells me every week about a over the top relationship.

I know what you mean. When I first saw these arrangements, I was surprised... downright shocked at first,
...but when I got a little closer and saw how they actually worked, ...I was blown away and amazed.

All the girls were actually best friends with each other.  :o  I remember one night back in 88 asking one girl N here in Canada how she handled it, ...and she just said "Hey, I just take my pill regularly, and when he can be with me, he is.

Two years later, a girlfriend of mine called me up wanting the low-down on this guy, ...she wanted to be one of his girlfriends, and wanted to make sure it was what she thought it was. She wanted to make sure she wouldn't be the ONLY one to required to satisfy his needs, and that she had help in that regard.  And wanted to make sure all the other girls were cool :o

Another situation I witnessed up close was in S. Cali. This one guy had so many girlfriends, he made matching baseball jackets for them all with his nickname for each girl embroidered on the jacket. In some circles, it was almost a status symbol to have one of those jackets. At first I didn't know what was going on, then one night driving home from Santa Barbara, I admitted to one of our friends 'B' that "I'd never noticed before what a sweety so & so was, ...but he's a real sweety. He reminded me a great big teddy bear you just wanted to wrap your arms around." Wouldn't you know, she goes and tells 'L' who I thought was this guy's girlfriend exclusively. Instead of getting mad, ...she just smiled and agreed with me, ...next thing you know... she starts leaving me alone with him every chance she got. It was only afterwards that I realized all those women were also his girlfriends as well, ...but only a few lived at the house.  It seems he was attracted to me, ...and unbeknownst to me, all his other girlfriends had pre-approved me. With their blessing and approval, they all felt it was only a matter of time before I succumbed to his charm.

It was very fascinating and eye-opening to see how they all worked together, and helped each other out, in total co-operation. Totally blew my mind. There was absolutely no bickering or squabbling between the girls at all. And Jake, ...before you wade in on this, ...the answer is YES. His 'p' hand as you like to call it, ...was VERY STRONG!  ;D

Utah has a lot. I had a girlfriend there who, found out her husband was married to at least 2 other women.
Traveling job... Well, these girls weren't cool with it. He also hurt all of them financially big time (Coke)
They all get together every year on the date of his prison conviction/ sentencing.

I got a cowboy so pissed one night when I told him Mormon women will have more'n one husband in the near future... Ha ;D :-* F- Off Buddy! ;)  He was too drunk to spit.

Many of the Thai girls end up kicked to the curb (some very pretty ones to) but there are some strange
relationships. Some of The wealthy older Euro ladies in Puket are no different than the 60 yr old male lechers w/ a 20yr old girl (or Boy) in each arm.

Many American think their present society is the pinnacle of human cultural evolution, they're idiots.

Some women are high maintenance, others are easy to please.

It really depends on the woman and the skills, emotional and physical, of the man in question.

Being a player isn't a matter of ability, as much as a desire for most men.

Could I do it?   Probably.

Would I?   No.

Women are too energy consuming, and many times not worth the effort spent.

I'm beginning to think a "friends with benefits" situation is more rewarding than a typical monogamous longterm relationship.

Some pretty boy Thais service many of the older well to do Euro women that visit. Its a fact Bud. Kick boxer body builders in the gym W/ rich older sugar mama's.

That may work in that culture, but wouldn't fly in America.

Remember, American society is patriarchal for the most part, except for black culture which tends to sway to the matriarchal side.

Men run the show and that is why many men have more than one partner, regardless of whether his wife/girlfriend knows it or not.

As far as the "Euro sugar mama" comment, that too is convenient.

Most men don't go for older women, esp if we're talking about the over forty MILF crowd.

Obviously, they have to be compensated to agree to that type of relationship.   :-X

I have heard that for the most part they did turn a blind eye . . . until all the negative attention brought by the Warren Jeffs case and Jon Krakauer's book.  However, it still seems that unless there's child abuse involved, the state doesn't want to make a fuss . . . .

. . . . probably b/c they (the Mormons who dominate Utah politics) feel guilty about turning away from the true path for political and material reasons.

Depending on what the women looked like.. one might choose the polygamy sect. Not that being cute is grounds for picking a wife but the last thing a guy needs are a couple of busted women milling about the house. :)
