Ego lift...yes. But that's what its all about for most 19 year olds in the gym. It's all about "how much can you bench". They know little and could care less about bodybuilding.
That kid sure isn't going to build any chest muscle getting spotter help to bench press for 1 rep while wearing elbow wraps. But he can now brag to anyone who asks, "how much can you bench", that he puts up 405.
