RALEIGH, N.C. - Tammy Faye Messner, who as Tammy Faye Bakker helped her husband, Jim, build a multimillion-dollar evangelism empire and then watched it collapse in disgrace, has died. She was 65.

Messner had battled colon cancer since 1996 that more recently spread to her lungs. She died peacefully Friday at her home near Kansas City, Mo., said Joe Spotts, her manager and booking agent.
A family service was held Saturday in a private cemetery, where her ashes were interred, he said.

She was down to 65 pounds a few days before she died, and she went out of HER WAY to let everyone know she was sick. She couldn't die with dignity, everyone had to know and attempt to care...
I will contend until the day that I die that she made less difference and that any I.F.B.B. I knew that part... but why the continued celebrity, to this day? If I were being charitable, guess I would point to her role in pushing for acceptance of the gay community, something that the mainstream evangelical movement opposes.
