The Romans manged to dominate most of Europe and part of Africa for over 600 years, they were a grand civilisation full of wisdom and sofistiated way ahead of their timebut also at times incredible brutal.
The US is a superpower now for what? 60 years? Will it end soon?
-
No economy will have the stamina the Roman empire did so long as technology remains high.
USA's strength has been lower for some time, and due to the global market, will continue to do so.
Thing is, I can't forsee something like Britain, US ever forming again. Things are just going more global and along with it a more even spread of power.

It's kinda interesting (and I don't want to leave the impression I know very much about the Roman empire) that the corner Stones of the Roman Empire was his vast and highly professional Armies, it's pretty similar what the US is doing after WW2 when they decided for the first time (unlike any US conflict before) not to send home all the Troops after they were finished with the Japanese but to keep a larger Army than before and to build on that.
There is nothing that can match the US Army in an open fight, their technology and budget is way to big, some countries may have one or two weapons systems that would perform better sometimes but overall the US Military is unmatched.
Kinda like the Romans back than.
-
Yeah.
Today there's a different level of morality.
The Romans could fund their war machine simply by invading. Can't go around doing that today.

Well most of their army were Volunteers, they understood the aspect and difference between Soldiers wanting to server to gain Roman citizen ship or for a Career in the Military and somebody who was suppressed into serving.

Yeah, the "fight for citizenship" still goes on til this day, very interesting.

You don't think so? I would like to know how many US military personal serve because of the Greencard that waits for them after what is it? 5 years of service?

I agree with fight for citizenship. It's an honorable thing to do if you believe in the cause.
Of course, just getting a job from a US company and slowly neutralising yourself via the normal channels is a more attractive way IMO.

Getting a job and contributing to the US Economy or british for that matter is as honorable as to server in the US military wouldn't you say so?

Certainly, it's just that it's more selfless to serve than to get a job.

why?

why?
Well in a way you're offering your being if you join the army. That is a selfless act.
-
There are plenty of believers that global corporatism will become the new empires.
-
There are few jobs that could require u to both take a life and take a bullet.
And companies like Blackwater will serve as their military.

too much technology

Why do you hate America so much? A bitter Nazi still harboring ill will from 60 years ago? That's understandable.
However, what you don't seem to realize is, our army is volunteer. If we wanted to go out and conquer the planet, we would. The days of solving all problems with violence are gone. Not to mention we're surrounded by allies to the north and south and water on the other sides and bases across the planet. Kind of puts you at a disadvantage for a land invasion.
You don't think if America was threatened that the majority of this country wouldn't rise up and kick ass? I doubt it. Look what happened the last time. ;)

No offence, but this post doesn't add shit.
Rise up and kick ass? Yeah, the world is all about kicking ass. ::)
You're an educated man, and should be able to look at it from a perspective of reason.
Will USA be as dominant as it's been the last 60 years?
Not likely.
Then why?
IMO, because the borders between nations don't exists in the traditional sense anymore, and they continue to become lower.
The infrastructural development is in large responsible for this.
What will replace USA?
Some people think China will replace USA, I don't think so. USA is the last nation who is a world hegemony.
The new hegemonies are corporations, some even today have bigger values than smaller countries.
And these countries are no longer "American" or "Japanese".
Look at Fox. It's owned by an Australian, Rupert Murdoch, with big ownings in several countries, and in multiple sectors. It's impossible to place Fox in one single country today. It's bigger than that.
Nations will still play a big role in the future, but there will not be any new superpower once the US empire "falls".
I wouldn't call it "fall" either, rather: gradually fades out somewhat.
-
Fades out or is actually propted up to ensure that we can still send troops top protect company interests. u could argue this is already happening or has been since after WW2. I think in the future this will much more overt..with either private firms or US troops deploying in support of Shell or Moble
-
You're telling me that if the US wasn't threatened and at full blown war with another country that the majority of the people here wouldn't stand up and fight back? You're an idiot if you don't think so. Last time it happened was WWII, and we saw the outcome of that once we entered.
Most people seem to forget that the current US army is completely volunteer.
And because I said it would happen, DOESN'T mean I said it will happen. Learn to read English correctly. It was a hypothetical response to a completely retarded question by an angry European.
And I never said I didn't agree with you. No one is going to unseat the US from its throne, the lines will become so blurred that it won't matter.

Seems like you are all surrounded by evil ;), as usual you are taking a simple question into past and present Super powers way to far, you translate my mere interest in obvious similarities as hate for "your" country and nothing could be further from the truth.

Steif, ignorieren Sie diesen Idioten, den please..he nichts zu irgendwelchen der Bretter holt, er eingeschaltet ist.

Yes, the US will fall, but not spectacularily so. I see it breaking up and fragmenting into a few "super-states" divided along cultural and racial lines. China and India cannot even provide clean water to a large segment of its population and cannot feed its massive population either due to poor agriculture. These two countries depend on food imports to survive. Europe? Doubtful, with a mix of socialism and a burgeoning Muslim population that is hostile to the natives there.
What no one has mentioned yet is that there is a glaring similarity that is shared by the Roman, Byzantine, and Spanish empires when they fell......they all deviated from the gold standard and began to debase their currencies in favor fiat money and coin clipping. The Roman Gold Aureaus and the Byzantine Gold Solidus were heavily traded and held high value long after those empires ceased to exist. And look what we have here in the UNited States...a complete fiat money system, skyrocketing gold spot prices, inflation, and severe debt.
Additionally, one must look at the racial and cultural makeup of American society. In reality, we are really only held together by the glue that is our economy. Our standards of living are very much beyond than those of others throughout the word. Honestly, who would have the time and inclination to hate or fight someone who differs from them when there is an SUV and mortgage to be paid, and Monday Night Football is on? We've already caught glimpses of how vastly different we really are in regards to each other and these events only enhance that view....Hurricane Katrina, the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the current illegal immigration debate, the rise and power of race-based special interest groups, etc...
Now, look at what happened near the end of the Roman Empire. The diversity of its national, ethnic composition began as a strength but later aided in its failure; the Barbarians entered into the kingdom peacefully laying the foundations for a multicultural society, but later turned against the Empire by capturing provinces in an attempt to segregate and establish distinctive boundary divisions, i.e., a kingdom within a kingdom. Do we not see the exact same thing happening in our American Southwest? These are not just low-level gang members and uneducated unaware Mexican and Central American immigrants declaring this land is theirs.....it is also privy to the highly educated and powerful such as mayors and interest groups such as La Raza stating this very thing.
This is definately a very long and involved discussion to get into, but interesting nonetheless.

You know I had this conversation recently with my dad and I said exactly the same has you have here. Very interesting stuff. And it is definately an interesting but involved disussion.

Typical "Pecking Order of Nation" and trying to make a parallalel with the fall of the Victorian empire (Anybody read Howard Bloom's "Lucifer Principle")
America isn't a "Nation" anymore. It's a harbor of Corporation. 90% of the global Fortune 100 is US based.
As long as this remain, American will remain strong. If Corporate America sells out, or another nation offers a better haven for Corporations, America won't have any reason to remain as powerful. However, no meme system in the world can offer an haven like America. And not for a long time. That includes existing Mega Corps but also incubating the next multi-billion company like the current superpowers like Micrsoft, Google Yahoo who didn't exists 30 years ago.

This doesn't make sense.
Everything else in this quote does, and I agree with it.
But this part, you first say Corporations are global, then state that they're US based?
