He is certainly polarizing.

Shocking.
I don't know what to add really.

I think "that fool is a moron" would be appropriate. Imagine how lost in partyline BS you'd have to be to actually defend that guy.
15 months and counting.

Beach I gotta tell ya, that sounds like desperate spin to me. I was in the States this past week, and I was shocked beyond belief to hear all the grumbling I heard. There was more anti-Bush sentiment coming from the lips of Americans than I'd ever heard in my life. I couldn't believe I was hearing such hatred for a man in his own country, ...by people who actually voted for him. It was so shocking to me, I didn't dare say a word, just let them calm themselves down. Thank Goodness there's only 14 more months to go.

hahahahaha

hahahah I laughed my ass off when I saw this on the news. Fuck he's dumb.
-
Hot damn. That's stupid, even by Bush's standards.
-
the real dumbasses are the people who can't understand a metaphor . . . ::)
not giving the president a pass, but just pointing out obvious dumbassedness here.

You heard anybody laughing in the audience? You want to know why? I tell you... because they were thinking exactly the same as we did (except you of course)
They were thinking:
WTF is he babbling about?

he wasn't using the metaphor for humorous reasons . . . he was just trying to indicate why a charismatic & unifying leader has not emerged in Iraq.
don't hate just to hate. there are plenty of things the admin could have done better, this is not one of them.

I know that Bush was trying to make a metaphor. And that he didn't actually suggest that Hussein killed Nelson Mandela.
But the problem:
Bush thought Nelson Mandela was dead.
That is unbelievably stupid, considering he's the president of USA, the most powerful job in the world.
If a white thrash hillbilly in West Virginia would've stated that "Mandala" was dead, I wouldn't thought much of it. But this is Bush, a man who's supposedly fit to make decisions on world politics.
It scares me that he has no idea that Nelson Mandela is alive.

I cannot believe you cannot see how incredible stupid he is... if he would be the German Kanzler you would laugh your ass off, is it too scary for you to acknowledge the fact that he is just not smart?

It's not spin. He was just in arguably the most liberal state in the United States the other day and people, both civilian and military, were all over him. People still love him. http://starbulletin.com/2007/09/09/news/story01.html

Uh yeah, Bush wouldn't know what a metaphor was if he ordered a bombing raid on one. He thought Mandela was dead.

you don't need to know what a metaphor is to employ one.
it seems obvious to me that he meant Iraq's mandelas are dead . . .
why on earth would he suddenly decide to announce that Nelson M was dead?
stranger things have happened I suppose, but I'm not buying it for one sec

Wow, he has charisma = he's a good smart leader ::)

The simple fact that you're talking about a two term U.S. President possibly not knowing what a metaphor is frightens the shit out of me. I can understand your desire to defend him but after seeing that video I can't understand why you chose to on this particular occasion.
In public speaking situations Bush often looks like a simpleton. He does not speak well and he does not think quickly enough to answer questions that either he's forgotten the answer to or that he wasn't prepped for. He says crazy things off the cuff quite often in those situations. I can post Youtube clips for the next hour showcasing how moronic he looks and sounds during public speaking situations.
I don't believe he was using a metaphor and I think that most would agree after watching the clip.

Charisma is a very important part of leadership.

Doesn't speak any for leadership itself, as is evident.

Sure it does. Helps explain why Reagan and Clinton were so popular and Carter was not. Yes there were other factors, but charisma played an important role in how people viewed them.
-
Damn, he was doing really good too with public speaking and being behind podiums, until this.
It can happen to anyone though in fact this might have been a futuristic expression taken out of context by the media!
