Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz
Karo Parisyan vs. Hector Lombard
Frankie Edgar vs. Spencer Fisher
Ed Herman vs. Dave Terrell
Akihiro Gono vs. Tamdan McCrory
Joe Lauzon vs. Jason Reinhardt
Thiago Alves vs. Ryo Chonan

Edgar/Fisher, Herman/Terrell shouldn't disappoint though.

Unimpressive on paper, but sometimes you get some great fights when you least expect it. I like Rashad, so I want to see him beat Tito. Other than that, we'll see.

The one that I like the most is the Parisyan fight. I can't stand that dude.. Thinks he is bad. I can't wait to see someone knock his ass out. Hopefully I can see it by this time next year.. I would like to see Nate whoop his ass. I just like the kid.

I think the UFC unlike boxing has an audience (fan base) that's a little higher on the economic ladder, so while shitty boxing cards will have shitty PPV buys, these UFC PPV's that belong on spike will still get decent PPV numbers

Where are you getting that from? The majority of MMA fans are fat redneck alcoholics who ride dirty in 88 F-150's with 350k miles on them.

Actually the UFC has been going with 9 fights as of late.  The card isn't complete yet but it would take a miracle to salvage it.

Karo Parisyan will return to the octagon in November at UFC 78 in New Jersey to take on UFC newcomer Hector Lombard, UFC Daily has confirmed with Parisyan’s manager.

Parisyan will be leaving tomorrow for Las Vegas to train with Xtreme Couture and UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture to prepare for the bout.

Regarded as one of the best welterweight fighters in the world, Parisyan has compiled a 25-4 MMA record. Using a modified form of judo, he has racked up wins in the UFC. He was victorious in his UFC debut, defeating Dave Strasser but lost his next fight at the hands of Georges St. Pierre. After defeating Shonie Carter at WEC 10 Parisyan returned to the UFC and appeared better than ever in victories over Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle, Matt Serra, and Nick Thompson.

He was handed his second UFC loss in December of 2006 when he was defeated by Diego Sanchez via unanimous decision. He has since bounced back from the loss with unanimous decision victories over Drew Fickett and Josh Burkman. Should the wins continue it is expected that Parisyan will fight for the UFC Welterweight Championship sometime in 2008.

Lombard will enter the octagon with an 11-2-1 MMA record. He has fought with a variety of promotions including PRIDE. In his two PRIDE fights, Bushido events in 2006, Lombard was defeated by Akihiro Gono and Gegard Mousasi. Since then he has strung together 5 straight wins at DEEP, Oceania Fighting Championships, and Warriors Realm events. He fought to a draw against Kyle Noke in his last MMA bout in July.

Wow you can find stuff on Sherdog.  So youre telling me that he is a great fighter when he has
11 fights with 7 of those coming by way of DECISION.  No Killer instinct.

And oh by the way Rich Franklin Sucks!  And hes about the best fighter he's fought.  The rest were scrubs!

Title: Re: UFC 78 not lookin too hot.
Post by: nuyork143 on October 03, 2007, 05:56:24 PM
IMO I honestly dont see Hendo fighting at 205.  The only reason he did it was to kick Wandy's ass.  Thats done, so theres no reason for him to stay in that weight class.  I would like to see Hendo stay in the Middleweight and kill fools.

That is true, but he is pretty small for a 205lber and that will become an issue once he starts breaking into fighting the upper tier fighters at that weight (by upper tier lets say top ten, whom all seem to be alot bigger than he).  He's good but like Brock Lesnar, he will never be champ (at 205lbs).  He is small enough to make 185lbs though, that could be a good option once he loses here in the near future.

I agree, about his size. I do think he MIGHT have a problem with some of the larger guys.
However, for all we know he could be the greatest pndperpnd in the world.

Machida is a good counter striker with little power.  He will have trouble with weight cutting light heavys.  His inability to finish second tier fighters will become a nightmare if he fights a big LHW who cuts from 220 (like most of them do).  He should make the move to 185, and beat the tar out of Ace again.

Agreed, and MAYBE then he will be able to finish a fight in style, and not ride out a decision.

I don't agree that Machida lacks power.
He is very powerful, but he doesn't follow through.

Machida is like a laser-guided bomb, whereas other fighters are like carpet bombing.

He doesn't strike unless he's pretty sure he will hit.
It's a direct result of his point-sparring/shotokan karate training.
It stands in contrast to more aggressive styles like Kyokushin/knockdown karate and Muay-Thai, but it's worked so far.

He's beat Franklin, Bonnar, and an inflated BJ Penn.

He rode out a decision against BJ, who he outweighed by 30 lbs.  BJ gave as good as he got, and lost a SPLIT decision.
