Why isn't the Mr. Olympia held in other continents/countries too except Las Vegas - America??
It's called Mr. Olympia for some reason.......if you know what i mean.......
-
It used to be be held in various places like Munich, South Africa and New York...I dont know why its always in Vegas now ? Maybe cause it has all the facilities to hold concert/convention type events and the people going are mostly from Cali or live in Vegas...

That is basically correct...it was held in Long Beach California, which is a bit of a shithole if you ask me, some years back i do believe...Vegas has the hotels and the glitz too so that's probably why it has stayed there these last years.

Because they recieve a price for everthing in Vegas. Going to Vegas is like two vactions in one. And bodybuildling caters somewhat to the Vegas/Cali lifestyle. There are other places that would be great to hold it but because the cost it probably wouldn't be worth it.
Miami
L.A. Very expensive
New York (Again) very expensive
San Francisco very expensive
Germany = expensive but would definetly out sell just about any venue in the U.S.
United Arab Emerates = they are rich and love bodybuilding
Perhaps Columbus Ohio but it could be a conflict with the Arnold there.
That's about it. I'm looking from the business standpoint. Obviously there are costs I don't know about so things could change. I like the idea of moving it again. It was good in Vegas (my home town) but keep it fresh.

I'm looking forward to the day it's finally held in Dubai, India.......
-
it's always held in the city where the reigning Mr Olympia lives

Phew so Lee Haney made a move to Helsinki in 1991?

;D Glorious.

Vegas is probably the best place to hold it. Ive never been to a Mr O, but Ive been to Vegas once before, and it is unlike any other place Ive been to. I just don't think that it being held in another place would be a good idea. Vegas is just the best place to hold a big show like the Olympia with ease, they have all the facilities and accommodation there. Plus holding it somewhere else, paticulalrly another country, might not get as big turnout to the show.
-

I like this idea. ;D
-
it should be held on the summit of Mt.Olympia, greece
-
Vegas is a complete shithole. they should hold it anywhere but there- ronnie coleman's basement for fucksakes would be better. they should hold it at the santa monica civic center or the la civic center
-
its easier for the compititors to get Mexican gear in Vagas
-
Vegas is nice and all to hold the Olympia, but I wish they'd bounce that shit around from state to state. :(
-
it's always held in the city where the reigning Mr Olympia lives
Dorian would disagree with you - Hasn't been held in the Uk since WAY before his time.
-
It should be held in other countries/continents too (Australia, Europe etc) .......if it continues to be held in Vegas only the same people will have the chance to watch it every year, so whats the point???....one of the reasons bb doesn't go mainstream......what a mess.... :(
And now Euro Grand Prix is being cancelled..... :P :P :P :P :P :P :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
I agree but I guess its all about Money as with everything else these days!! Pro Bodybuilding is almost exclusively American now and I can only see it becoming more and more so in the future.
-
it should be held in mexico
mr olympia should then have to face a matador and play the part of the bull
gladiator & warriors my ass

Started off at Olympia in London ..... NO chance of that ever happening again!!

Not to get political, but recall since 9/11 it is *very* hard for some nationals to get into the USA.....so that impacts international people attending. Bodybuilding is hugely popular in my region, but so many people who would attend and can easily afford cannot gain access to Vegas.
For most my people to get entry we must pay a fee and undergo a personal interview with the US embassy [which can take months for an appt], have a set amounts of funds, not be in the miltary, have never had any contact with police, sometimes a full medical is required, and the most restrictive rule is we must have held a job with the same company for 2 years prior....so if you recently switched jobs, forget it.
That is just some examples, there are tons of restrictions. In say London, Toronto etc there is easier access for us, so with Vegas, I know they knock out many from dozens of nations from being able to attend. Just my international perspective here...........

Yeah, sorry about that......wasn't trying to be political, just explaining the background of why some international people may not be able to attend.

Your point is true, but we must think about the fans of this sport who are all over the world....

I think that the Olympia planners are trying to compete with the success that is the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic. By keeping the Olympia in a single site, they can plan much easier and can add more events and competitions every year. Plus, the majority of the audience is in the U.S., so they are catering to the bucks. I haven't attended either the Olympia or the Arnold, but from what I have heard, the Arnold puts the Olympia to shame in terms of size, production values, etc.
I agree with others, however, and think that they should move the Olympia around every year. Gives it a much better, unique international feel.
How about having the 2008 Olympia in Germany somewhere, so Dennis Wolf's hometown fans can see him win the Olympia! :D

The Caribbean, but what I said applies to numerous nations, at least 100 or so. That said, I am in the US constantly using a perfectly legal way to avoid the visa issues. They can be circumvented.
I like Vegas, been to the O a few times, but just for me personally it got a bit tedious hiking 15 odd hours to the same city each year. One can look at FIBO in Europe each May which gets approx 45,000 people in attendence or so annually, and that is with an expo/strongman show/pros visiting - no actual pro show per se. Far higher attendence than the O....
-
yes, they said 9,000 people attend the O final

CQ: did you have a lot of smelly and sweaty "bodybuilders" after you, when you visited the mr o?
