The show is the Sunshine Classic and it's usually the second Saturday in March! It's also a National Qualifier. :D
I will have many questions and welcome all suggestions and advice. Thank you :)
Here is a picture (comparison of a weeks time). I started my prep Monday and will post pictures periodically.

Hi L2H! Well, I started getting my ass outta bed at 4:30 and hitting the gym for cardio. I've begun cutting my carbs (cycling them). And hitting the weights harder and heavier. I am 18 1/2 weeks out. :D

I started my diet for Jr Nats at 18 weeks out, that's a good amount of time to get you where you need to be hopefully without having to hit the "panic button."

It'll probably look great on stage...the tan tends to wash blonde hair out and make it look more day-glo white. I added a few darker highlights to my hair for stage, and it still looked super blonde.
Change is always exciting! You know I am a bit partial to blondes, always have been, but I am sure you will look beautiful! Just as long as you don't get rid of ALL the blonde... ;)

Still love the blonde lol, I can't help it, but the cool chunky colors will look really good...especially with a lot of Pro Tan on. It'll mellow out your hair color and soften your face a bit on stage. 8)

LOL I know Mike, No offense taken at all :) In reality I think tons of hair styles and colorsa look great on women. Blonde is very nice too, dont get me wrong and the ladies who post here and there are quite a few that are blondes are all very pretty.

I think week to week would be very interesting and show how at diff. times the body changes more or less...seems like it would be motivational and get people to stick w/their plan through plateaus :)

I take progress pics every two weeks when prepping (in all of the mandatory poses), and it's really awesome to see the difference. It's motivating for yourself as well as other people.

I don't think Laura's ever looked bad. But thats a funny story. :) I wish we had 80 degree weather here in Toronto. We got hit with a snow storm on the weekend. Makes training better though....Like Rocky 4 when he was in russia :)

Last few days it's been really hot here! (high 80's )......i love it im not going to lie!
tank-top and shorts ........................ almost year round (one or 2 months you might have to put on a t-shirt)
Florida was a smart move for both of us!(i remember training in the winter "Rocky style")

Well actually Jedi, Michael gets me awesome gifts and puts a lot of thought into each one. My current situation? I live in a beautiful townhouse, not low income housing, infact I live in Palm Beach Gardens...and there is no low income housing here. ;) I also have an excellent retirement plan, thank you. ;D And Michael, as I had mentioned is a generous, thoughtful, warm, sensitive, loving man...with a hot body. Started out with an abscess in one of my molars. Went to dentist and was told I'd need a 3 step root canal. Once drilled through the tooth the infection spread from being hit with oxygen. It created a large cavern that filled with blood. While I was asleep I must have pressed against it and it popped a major blood vessel in my jaw which lead to a bleed out. I lost a lot of blood and had to go to the doctors for an emergency extraction. It was very scary.

It was a really scary thing Lori. This is going to be long....
Mike started out with an abscess just before the 1st. He went to the dentist who said he needed a root canal and referred him to a specialist (saying that the tooth had an extra root and also had a crown on it so it needed to be done by a specialist to preserve the tooth). Anyway that was on the 4th of Jan and his new appointment with the specialist was set for the 7th. By the time he got to the specialist his whole side of his face blew up (it was so swollen the skin was shiny from being pulled). The doctor told him it was a really bad infection, and that he had never seen one this bad in all his years. He also said it would take about 3 visits to complete the root canal and stop the infection. Mike's second visit was scheduled for the 10th. By the time he got to that one the whole underside of his chin was blown up (looked like a tumor). The doctor told him he would need to lance the area and ended up draining 6cc's of fluid from the site and sent him on his way. He was miserable the whole weekend. Fast forward to Monday...I get up early (5am) so it's very dark in the room. I left for work and at about 8:30am I got back to my desk and I have a frantic voice mail from Mike saying he's bleeding from his mouth and can't get it to stop, that there's blood pouring out of him and the doctor has told him to come in. I call him and he can barely talk, he's screaming into the phone that he can't get the blood to stop coming out and feels like he's going to pass out. He said he was almost at the doctor's. I told him I would meet him there at the docs office. I drove there and Mike was not there. I tried calling him and although he was answering the phone, in a panic he was also pushing the mute button and I could not hear him. I hung up and called again and again and again and the same thing was happening. I text him "where are you" and he text back "help me" "find me". I was seriously wigging out in the parking lot. I kept trying to call him and then finally he was able to answer. He was trying to tell me where he was (he pulled over, he was on the edge of unconsciousness) but I couldn't make out what he was saying. I was freaking out on the phone and finally figured out what he was saying. He was 4 buildings down the street from where I was. I flew down there to find him slumped over the steering wheel. Blood everywhere. I put him in my car and flew back to the doctors. They rushed him into a room. It was sheer panic there. We looked so bad a person at the office asked if we were just in a car wreck. Nurses and doctors were in and out for over 30 minutes and finally Mike came out. He was white as a ghost. The doctor explained that the type of infection he had an effect similar to cancer. Once oxygen touches it, it spreads like wildfire. This infection (which he called a bone infection) created a huge pocket that had originally filled with the fluid he drained...now filled with blood. While Mike was sleeping he probably rolled onto this side of his face and caused this filled pocket to push down on a major blood vessel and rupture it. Once ruptured it "bled out" and wouldn't stop. The doctor had to suture this rupture and pack it. He then sent us off to an oral surgeon to have an emergency extraction done.
As we were driving home, Mike said...I'm sorry about the house, I got blood everywhere. He wasn't kidding. It looked as if someone had been murdered in our bedroom. There was a huge pool of blood on the bed and pillows. Blood all over the two bathroom floors, counters, sinks, walls and mirrors. There was a blood trail in the driveway even. It was awful. When we finally able to pick up his car from where we left it there was blood everywhere in there too, the door, the windshield, the dash and the steering wheel.
It was a very scary ordeal and I wouldn't wish what we went through on anyone. It definitely has made us look at things a bit differently.

Beth is meeting me at the gym each night to help me with my posing and routine. Like I said I was doing it for the first time last night and our friend Marty Vranicar (IFBB and NABBA Pro) was there helping too. I was so nervous and shy when I was doing it. I really got to lighten up, ha ha ha.

NICE...Arms look great Laura! You're getting there!! You can get more out of it through the posing for sure though...plenty of time to work on that. Practice Practice Practice!
On that side chest shot, keep your body straight up and down like it is, twist more at the waist, squeeze the legs together to get your hammy to pop out, and really sit down on that front leg (right leg in the pic), and pull that right arm back hard...you need to bend both legs and squeeze them together in the side chest shot. It's difficult to explain. :-\
And of course the key to the tricep shot...and always the hardest part for me...is to keep that belly sucked in tight LOL.
You're gonna enjoy BB very much. :)

Also a good way to clasp your hands on the side chest is, take the thumb of the hand on the arm facing the judges and put it between the pinky and ring finger of the other hand, this will put your arm towards the judges in a supinated position and allow you to show your biceps in its best position. Plus it just feels good that way. :)

Ummm, firstly the picture isn't flattering, as I have said, I don't take great pictures. Secondly the shots are taken while I'm practicing holding poses which isn't easy...you try holding a flexed pose for more than 30 seconds. Thirdly, the only thing that has changed regarding my face is that it is getting older and leaner. If you or anyone doesn't like it during my prep, fine, I'm doing this for myself...no one else.

Laura is contemplating a move back into Figure (just after only 1 weekend of not so hardcore dieting ,IE: 25 grams of carbs per day,4 oz of protein per meal endless cardio and training i feel she has already "soften up a little bit")
The "up at 5 am cardio ,off to work 8 hours/back to gym train/cardio was taking it's toll mentally and physically")

Jedi...The ONLY difference for Laura competing in BB instead of figure in 6 or 7 weeks will be how lean she gets for the day of the competition, which will not change the way she looks over the long-term. She looks beautiful right NOW, and nothing is going to change about that whether she does BB or figure in March. It's just a matter of how much conditioning she acheives for show day.
Obviously I understand the difficulty and challenges associated with day-to-day contest prep and dieting, and it IS more grueling for BB than figure. I do think that Laura would get a much greater sense of accomplishment and personal satisfaction out of competing as a BB, and I think she would love it.
But if she decides to go with figure instead, then I will respect that decision and support her all the way to the end! And I'll let her keep her contest prep thread here on the FBB Board as long as she updates it with lots of pics! :D
BTW, I have that tank top in pink, black, and gold. ;D

Rip, no offense, but as you can see, they are taking my advice, not yours. ;) Look at a female bodybuilder vs a figure, they dont look,train, or resemble one another at all. Bottom line is that Laura can make up her own mind based on what's right for her, and I'll support her decision. I guess I am just a little reactive your suggestion that Laura is "too pretty" to do bodybuilding and that she's going to ruin her looks if she does BB. That's just the bodybuilder in me, I suppose. You can't expect me to agree with you on that one. No worries. :)

I support Laura's decision to switch back to figure. She would have been a good addition to female bb though. Female bb gets a bad rap but imo there are several beautiful female bbers - rip and The Beast included. :)

My decision was baased on my own thoughts and insecurities. I also will admit that it was/is a lot tougher than I had imagined. Working 40+ hours, getting up at 4:30-5:00am for cardio, eating 8 meals of just chicken or fish, bringing my carbs down to 25 grams every other day (50 on the opposite day), training after working 9 hours and then adding a second session of cardio to that was become grueling and I will admit (I don't care who says what) brought me to an emotional meltdown on Friday. I know I'm not going anywhere with this (Pro or even Nationals), I was doing it for me and believe Figure at this time of my life is a better fit for me. Maybe 10 years ago I could have gone the fbbing route but at 44...I'm just too old (and selfish) to invest my life or what is needed of my life into it.
I do want to thank everyone that has supported me in either category. I appeciate it so very much.

Thanks Hedge. I totally appreciate what you are saying, but I'm not a spring chicken. I'm not dirt ready yet either. Over the last couple months I have been giving it my all and losing out on a lot of stuff that is important to me. Like I said, I had no intention of going pro or taking it even to the National level. I was doing it because I loved the figure aspect of it, but wanted a little more. BBing is NOT a little more, it is a LOT more (and those who have done both know the difference). I had no life outside of cardio, diet, training, working and sleeping. I want more from my life and want to enjoy myself and what I do. I also want to look in the mirror and like what I'm looking at and to be honest...I wasn't liking what I was seeing. Everyone from Figure to Fitness to Bodybuilding (female and male) have my utmost respect for what they sacrifice. I, at 44 years of age, have sacrificed enough (for me) and I want to enjoy this, not stress over it.
I am doing the show in March, but will do so as a Figure Competitior. Who knows, maybe this time around I'll do better. :)

Todays female bodybuilders look nothing like "yesterdays bodybuilders". Those ladies would get smoked in todays REAL female bodybuilding shows. Rip, your beautiful, but in todays shows, you need quality muscle PLUS conditioning. Rip, your 110 pounds, cmon, you may think your a bodybuilder, but compete in a REAL show, and I am sure you will come back to the drawing board and think things over. Rip, you look like a fitness chick, not a bodybuilder. Remember , bodybuilding is about building muscle not just conditioning, I think your forgetting that. Facial changes occur when "females or males" start using products or gear and I wasnt saying they happened to Laura because I think she is natural, but I was giving her the heads up. Rip, again your 110 pounds, if you competed in a REAL bodybuilding show, not some local show, you would get smoked.

If not Junior Nats, then what do you consider a "real show"? I'm competing in two Pro Qualifiers this year.

I have pretty decent legs, and my biceps are one of my best muscles. :P
National level shows have weight classes. Junior Nationals is a National level show, and it's a REAL show. What show would I have to win in order to qualify as a "real" bodybuilder to you? Or is it just about SIZE from your perspective? Do I have to be ENORMOUS to be a "real" bodybuilder?
I do NOT want to be that big, nor do I have to in order to be successful as a bodybuilder. You are just prolonging the notion that FBBs have to be mass monsters.
And NO, I am not going to compete at 110 pounds forever...the LW class goes up to 115, so I have room to grow as a LW. I can still add about 3-4 pounds of muscle and remain a LW.
Talk to me about this again later this year after the North Americans and Nationals. :P

I'm not being cocky...I am defending myself against your suggestion that I am not a "real" bodybuilder because I am small and haven't done any "real" shows. I'll be the first to admit that I need more work...in fact, I've always said that. Bodybuilding is an ongoing process....there is always work to be done.

Also, its "quality" of muscle, not "quantity". Lori is IMO better "conditioned" in that picture than the other.

Laura, I couldn't imagine you with some "bodybuilder" body, your just way to sexy, u look so good when u were competing as a figure competitor, it really brings out ur curves and ur smokin hott body. You did so well also, your first show u got a trophy, and u looked like someone who was meant to be there,,u looked like a professional.

I am in the same condition right now, as I was when I steppedon that stage last year. With a little over 6 weeks left...hopefully I can bring up the sagging, errrrr I mean lagging parts (my ass, lol).

WRONG!!! Bodybuilding is not about big muscles...specially for women. Bodybuilding is about BUILDING the ideal physique. Obviously, "ideal" is a very subjective notion. But, for most people, ideal is a lot closer to Rip, than it is to the BB whose pic you posted.

Actually, that is what "bodybuilding" is all about. We all have a point where improvement is needed. Rip looks good but she over time needs to make improvements. Speaking of improvements, MindSpin, it's about time you make some, you have made no progress in the last few years. Your tiny. This is bodybuilding, not lazybuilding.

I agree, I need to make some improvements. I could use a little more thickness in my back and some more depth to my abs....nothing that can't be accomplished with 3-4 pounds over time. ;)

I am not bashing u at all,,i want u to know that,,u look better than 99% of chicks out there,,i am jut saying in terms of bodybuilding,,and just kinda using u as an example,,but in general,,anyone who is bodybuilding , will in time, always want to improve to a certain extent, and IN MY OPINION i think that Laura was better suited for the figure, because there are alot of dirty politics in bodybuilding, and I didnt want to see her mess up her incredible body to get bigger and muscular..most female bodybuilders ideal weight is over 110 pounds. So your the best at 110 pounds,,ok,,but if u start improving,,u put on more muscle,,u compete at higher weight levels,,the competiton rises,,cmon,,what happens next,,u wanna get bigger..

It's cool, I just happen to disagree with you. Like I said, I support whatever decision Laura makes, but I don't think that she'd have to add a tremendous amount of size to be successful at BB and get alot of personal satisfaction and sense of accomplishment out of it. For the show she's doing in a few weeks, it's all about the diet either way.
I should clarify...I actually weighed in for Jr Nats at 111.5. I got room to add just under 3.5 pounds of muscle. ;D

Thing is, if you have to give up so much to place first, like getting facial changes, hormonal changes (what will that do for the risk of ovarian cancer?), and the reward is so small financially, how are you gonna justify it?
Look at Jodels, placing 8th or so as a bodybuilder in her first outing, but still being the real winner, since her physique is what most people considers to be best looking from that show.
As long as you have the best physique you will win. You don't necessarily have to win the show, but you will get the few photo shoots and physique modeling jobs that are available.
Who do you think has made more money, Andrulla Blanchette (Ms O) or Lena Johanssen (what did she ever win?).

HUh 8 place is the real winner?? Im sure she did not feel that way. When you compete in a particular event you are trying you best to do well in that event. Its what the judges think that matters not your friends or fans.

I was a bit confused about HHs statement as well. 8th is pretty damn far from 1st.

But I always go into a competition with the mindset that if I improved myself and look better than I did last time I competed, if am happy with the way I look, and if I dedicated myself 110% to getting there, then I WIN no matter what happens. Easier said than done, I KNOW, but THESE THINGS are what makes a successful bodybuilder.
That's why I try to encourage more women to give BB a try...it can be a very rewarding experience, especially after competing in figure, working your ass off to get to a show, and getting lost in a sea of 250 girls covered in bling. :P

When I won the overall at the Mr. Huntington Beach I wasn't happy. I missed my peak and came in looking like shiat (IMO). When I took 5th at the Mr. LA, I was elated. I came in 12lbs heavier with better condition and right on peak. I get more personal fulfillment from doing my best than wining...

Also, it's a judged competition. It's not a 100 meter dash, with a clear cut winner.
If whatever you bring up on that stage is what a majority considers to be the best outstanding physique, how could the opinion of a few judges be more important than that?
Especially in something like bodybuilding, that have little financial rewards.
And even more in female bodybuilding, where the judging is different from competition to competition.
So if Jodels got 8th place, doesn't matter at all. She looked great, and if the judges can't award that, it's something wrong with the judging.
Or at least, she (or Cheri Lane or whoever) shouldn't go into a competition worrying about the judging.
It's when they do things gets really bizarre IMO, then you get FBB's who discusses openly how they try to put on more mass, or try to look more feminine, or come in harder or whatever.
They let some guys in suits decide what they're doing to their bodies.

Totally agree BB is a sport against yourself first and foremost. If the best you can bring is better than the others in class then that is very cool and you win the show. And yes the sport is so subjective that many times lots of people will think that 2nd or 3rd should have been judged best. Also the depth of the field has tons to do with the placing. If you get first in a novice show it would not be as rewarding as say 6th in a national level show, I also agree with that.
I think Hedge was saying, Jody M while competing in a BB show "should be happy about placing 8th because she looks better and more feminine than the she beasts that won the show." She should comp in figure then cause I'm sorry FBB is about being muscular, even though too many people on the fringe may not care for the look.

Hi All!
I'm home and feeling a little better. Sorry for the scare Lori and Stella. It was a rough few days.
Tuesday I decided to start an over the counter fat burner (Venom) as I was 6 weeks out. I took it as recommended. One tablet in the morning....felt great through the morning and into the early afternoon. Wasn't shakey or feeling weird, kept my appetite at bay, everything fine. I then took the second dose as directed at 3:30. I was still feeling fine until 4:30ish. I started feeling a little ill in the belly, but by 5:00 I also had a head ache and was sweating aweful. I got home and told Mike that I wasn't feeling up to going to the gym. I layed down and he was called to his mothers. While he was gone I started feeling worse. I tried calling him but wasn't getting an answer. I decided to drive over to his mothers to make sure things were ok there. By the time I got there I was physically week and very light headed. I told Mike I needed to go to the hospital. He drove me there and I was rushed into the ER. I was in de-fib and had a blood pressure of 186 over something (i forget the second number). They attached me to several machines and started an IV. They pushed about 6 huge needles of a medicine that was supposed to bring my blood pressure down. It took 10 hours for my blood to get to a normal level. They did several draws of blood, EKG's, X-rays and Ultrasounds. The upper part of my heart was giving me the problem. It was beating so out of wack that it stops the right and left chambers from pushing out blood to the body, therefore the blood coagulates and causes clots. They had to shoot blood thinner needles into my stomach (totally sucked). Wednesday and Thursday proved the same, many tests and needles. By Thursday night they felt it was under control enough to send me home. I am on 3 scripts for my heart, blood and stomach. I have to take a stress test next week. I have been told that I will be able to go back to the gym, but not train at the intensity I used to and that I will not be able to compete due to the fact that I cannot take the stress. Cest le vie, I'd rather have my life than a trophy. This was not the first time I have had an issue like this (but not to this degree). Several years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease (Hypothyroidism). I had felt almost the same way back then and my heart rate was high back then, but was put on Levoxyl for 2 years. My thyroid was tested every 6 months and eventually my meds were decreased and then finally I was at normal thyroid levels and didn't have to take the medication. During this stay they did several checks on my thyroid and it is still in the normal range. The cardiologist stated this heart problem was an existing issue and that it was most likely not induced by the fat burner, but may have aggrivated it. All in all I guess it was better finding out like this than to have it get worse without being aggrivated and eventually just having a heart attach. I'm not feeling 100% as I am still having bouts of fatigue and lightheadedness (is that a word?), and my thinking skill a little slow (its taken a half hour to type this, lol) but the doc assures me that it will pass.
So I want to thank you all that knew for keeping me in your prayers and for those who didn't until now for being concerned. And although some of you I have had confrontations with here on the boards, please know I've realized that life is too damn short for shit and I appologize for anything I may have said that upset you.

Hiya honey! I'm feeling a bit better. Not 100% yet. Still have had some pain in the chest at night. I imagine I'm doing too much during the day (working 1/2 days this week). I have a stress test scheduled for 2/8. Hopefully I am good to go and live life by then. :)

There is nothing wrong with me and Mike. You guys took my text incorrectly (as usual ::)) and flipped it.
Yup, I got a bum ticker. It's a pre-existing condition that I didn't know I had and is giving me some problems. It's really bumming me out that I cannot compete anymore. I would be 4 weeks out from my show now and getting really excited. Instead I'm on heart medication that makes me feel ill. It's swelled me up and makes me tired all the time. And although I've been told that I can't train and can't do cardio I chose to try last night. It was a lame workout and killed me. I really loved training and competing and it breaks my heart not to be able to do it. I came to the realization last night....hence my signature. But you retards go with it in all different direction. Go figure. ::) I wanted to take some "me" time and try and get healthy so I decided to take a break from the boards. Is it ok with you all if I do so? ;D
Also, what is all this Dennis James stuff? You guys sure can start rumors...are you sure you're not really a chick?

But this thread is about Laura Lee. Good health is a precious thing. All the money in the world is nothing compared to just being healthy. Hopefully everything is ok with LL. She will never compete, but hopefully keep up with lifting, live healthy and enjoy life. She will find other things in life to strive for, I'm pretty sure of that. :)

I talked to Laura yesterday...she's doing okay, on the road to recovery, and she'll be back. I'll be talking to her again this weekend, so I'll let you guys know if there's any update on her health.

Arvilla is so mixed up and lost as to what to supplement with, he is just giving her stuff he has no idea about. The guy doesn't have a clue as to what he is doing. He is like a mad scientist, just giving his victim anything and everything he finds. Rememeber this is a guy who looks like a completely different person because of all the drugs and his facial changes are permanent, that is why he looks so different in a span of a few years. I wouldn't be surprised if he kept Laura locked up in a cooler somewhere, she calls me all the time crying, but she is scared of him.
