Title: WWE / IFBB and Congress
Post by: littleguns on October 29, 2007, 08:07:14 AM
Why is Congress cracking hard on WWE and not doing anything to IFBB? One would think steroid abuse would be rampant amongst bodybuilders so why not start there first?

Could it be the overall death toll in BBing is alot less than WWE?

It's because bb'ing isn't on tv appealing to millions of viewers like WWE.  There's no glory in cracking down on an organization that basically no one knows about.  And policitians are solely motivated by their own desire for approval from the masses.  Outside of the few bb'ing fans on these boards, who even knows what IFBB stands for.  Ask a random person on the wtreet what WWE is and what IFBB is.

Probably because "pro" wrestling gets infinitely more exposure than the IFBB and so it's a bigger target as far as the public is concerned.

Could also be Weider is based in Canada.  Not sure though.  And also wrestling is on TV everyday.  BB is just done in small rooms.

It has nothing at all to with the fact that the Weiders are Canada based.  The IFBB does substantial business in the US.  If the WWE was based in canada, congress would be doing the same thing--wasting time on a non-issue for the sake of publicity.

It's because the WWE profits tens of millions of dollars a year.  WWE is a publicly traded company.  IFBB  profits how much???   The  government goes after ther big money and the IFBB is not big money.

It's a good question.  If the deaths mounted around the posing platform as they have around the wrestling ring, Congress might get involved.  The number of wrestling deaths is astounding over the last decade.

And I don't buy into the "Congress has better things to do" argument.  This is what they are elected and paid to do.  Since they can't stop the president from spending us into bankruptcy in Iraq, maybe they can stop steroids - or so goes the logic.....
