Hasn't been much talk about NPC Nationals fitness. Anyone training for it or know of someone who will be competing?
-
I'm excited about seeing Tanya Merryman make a return to the national fitness stage!

Tanya competed and won the NPC Sacramento show this past weekend. She told me she took a 9 year lay-off from the fitness stage until this past weekend.
-
Is she the only one competing?
-
Tina Durkin will be competing in fitness. Good luck, girl!
-
Chris...you're still out there....whew! I thought maybe after that cruise you really did decide to move onto one of the ships...LOL
Good luck to all the ladies competing at Nationals this week.

34 total fitness competitors this weekend. Prejudging on Friday night with more on Saturday.
-
34? Not very many for 3 height classes!?!?!?!
-
There were around 31 last year.
-
Wow! didn't realize the #'s were so low.
When I earned my pro card there was no figure yet and the #'s were higher!

That's the main reason why numbers are lower now than "back in the day". Routines, choreography, added outfit, etc. add more time and money than doing figure.

The way that is worded is really funny when you think about it. Like there would be one competitor at Figure Nationals. Good luck Tanya and Tina and every else competing. And funny thing I thought Tina was already a pro, didn't she win a whole bunch of shows this year?
-
She won Jr. Natl's overall, but it wasn't a pro qualifying event for fitness.

I wish! Say hi to the family for me!

Good luck to Tina I always enjoy watching her routine. She definately belongs on the pro stage.

I agree Tanya's physique is incredible. Watch out for Jo Merriner in the routine rounds, this girl kicks ass.

Congratulations to all, but 6 pro cards for 34 competitors?
Must be nice...
(maybe this will convince some women to move from figure over to fitness - we'll see)
-
I have to agree Tre !!
DEFINITE congrats.. to the new IFBB FITNESS PROS,
but they should possibly consider reducing Fitness to 2 classes..
with only 32 competitors in 2006 and 2007 ... the ''competition''
is less and less fierce for that honorable "pro" card...
in 2005 there were at least 51 competitors..
hope 2008 has higher numbers of growth and talent in the fitness #'s !!
-
There is only 1 pro card awarded a year (one) in Canada - for fitness, and one (1) for figure.
Fitness and Figure in the US is not all that bad.

Hi there.... as a fitness competitor I actually think its great the top 2 get pro cards.... there is SO many more opportunities for figure cards each year, and now so many more new figure pros. It would be great if the overall at Jr.'s got a card in fitness too! :) However.... I do agree that the numbers have really suffered and there isn't nearly as many stand out fitness competitors in each class. ( At 2004 USA's there was nearly 20 in EACH class) I think just the 3 classes is pretty fair.... there is a huge difference in how girls look between a real "shortie" and someone 5'4"..... Hopefully next year will bring in some newbies! Congrats to all the new fitness pros!
