According to a report made on a Sherdog.com radio broadcast, Fedor Emelianenko will battle Hong-Man Choi in his M-1 Global debut on New Year's Eve.
Hong-Man Choi is a 7'2'', 352 lb. kickboxer with K-1 experience, who has had one pro MMA fight for K-1 back on New Year's Eve of 2006 against an actor named Bobby Ologun.
Hong-Man was set to battle the debuting Brock Lesnar for the K-1/EliteXC co-promotion back in June of 2007, but was not medically cleared for the fight.
Although he competed recently in a Sambo tournament (which was a circus in and of itself) this will be Fedor's first pro MMA fight since defeating the 185 lb. Matt Lindland (in what some would say was controversial fashion) in April of 2007 for BodogFIGHT.
This is only going to give Dana White more fuel for his "Fedor is a farce" argument, as many would have hoped for more of a challenge for Fedor in his debut with a promotion that launched with a lot of hype around itself a few weeks ago.
Names such as Pedro Rizzo and Jeff Monson were mentioned as possible opponents for his debut, but instead we'll be treated to another "freak show" as the universally top-ranked Heavyweight will be challenged by a kickboxer with one pro MMA victory against a non-fighter.

"Choi suffers from a rare growing disease, due to this disease he keeps on growing. Life expectancy for this disease is no more than 50 years."
Height 2.18 m (7 ft 2 in)
Weight 163.5 kg (360 lb
"Choi Hong Man's losses came via judges' decision against Remy Bonjasky and Jérome Le Banner, and knockout by Mighty Mo."
"He got his nickname "Techno Goliath" when he was a ssirum wrestler in South Korea, as after a victory he would dance to techno music. "

Seems like a bad joke.
Part of me kinda hopes fedor loses.
-
Hopefully it's not true... we'll see. But the retard audience of Japan would want to see it...
-
Not the type of fight that's gonna make Fedor a household name.
Shoulda signed with the UFC.
Can u imagine the heat Dana would have taken if he made this fight?
-
Well I guess the Pride fans are happy now... ::)
-
Tell me this is a joke. Why would Fedor agree to do this ??? What's next? Fedor v. Bearded Lady? Fedor v. a pack of midgets? Fedor v. a lion ::)

"Emelianenko will apparently fight Choi as part of a show being organized by the promoters of the Japanese professional wrestling organization Hustle. Several of Hustle’s employees were involved in operation of the now defunct Pride Fighting Championships.
Emelianenko was the final Pride heavyweight titleholder and is currently ranked as the No. 1 heavyweight fighter in the world by MMAWeekly.com.
M-1 Global officials did confirm that there would be a press conference concerning Fedor Emelianenko’s future to be held on Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Tokyo."
thats the reason he'll fight that hong-man because the japanse retards love to see godzilla type fighters... makes you wonder how interested they are in the sport aspect when they rather go for freakshows like that... with ufc its the opposite, even having a weight limit.

"Several former PRIDE standouts " Hayato “Mach” Sakurai (30-7-2) and Tatsuya Kawajiri (19-4-2) " are also rumored to be participating in the event, along with Hidehiko Yoshida and members of his gym. Shinya Aoki (11-2), one of the world’s premier ground fighters, confirmed he would be competing on the card"

If you can believe it, pro-wrestling is actually much bigger than MMA in Japan. Also, the Japanese tend not to come to events unless there's at least one Japanese fighter involved (Choi, I believe is Korean, but I guess that's close enough). So, from the promoters standpoint, this is the type of event that will pack a Tokyodome or Saitama Super Arena, as it has a combination of pro-wrestling (The Giant) and MMA appeal.
As for Fedor, I guess it's just a big payday. Let's face it, even with the MMA "explosion" hardly any fighter is making big money. So, I can't blame him for taking, what, I guess, is a seven-figure fight.

i just hate those kinda shows.

...and that is why he is not the greatest MMA figher. He should looking to fight the best instead of looking for the money.

stop it! you sound like dana white now. of course he is the best. give credit where credit is do. the man is on another planet

well, who on earth (or at least in the world of the top mma rank) is not doing the same thing?
Wand did it
Nog did it
Fedor did it
Crocop did it...
fighting to be the best its a thing you only see on Van Damme movies or on Ryu from Street Fighter LOL...when the money comes, thats all that matters...And i dont see anything wrong on that

Any endeavor for which money is the primary incentive is not likely to be successful.

well i can agree with you on that...but thats just the way it goes...
-
why is it that if a person wants to make as much money as possible he is somehow lesser of a fighter. if i was fedor i would make as much money off of the sport as i could. you never know when you will get a career threatening injury
-
He might make more money on the short term but i don't think it's that smart long term.
He could have made a shitload of money fighting randy in the UFC as well. Plus would have been a bigger fight creating an even bigger name for himself. A good name/reputation is like a brandname that will just generate money while you're doing nothing. Right now he's pissing off a lot of fans.

excel at whatever you are good at and have a passion for, and the money will come.
