Because the average enlistee has no real clue what he's signing and relies on the recruiter's words.

That contract is a legal document and even college grads should have it looked over.  I know 2 close buds that were going to enter as 18-X and did this.  Their contracts were off and they opted for other routes.  It's that easy to get screwed over.

Happens all the time.  People don't actually read and understand what they're signing.
