I thought I heard a rumor that our very own Special Ed, a New York attorney and former MD contributor, may be helping Lee Priest in a defamation case against MD.
Is seems the magazine's top writer published an article, based upon what he admits was the word of an anonymous stranger, describing Lee's drug-crazed suicide attempt and subsequent lockdown in a psyciatric ward for observation. The truth is that no such thing occurred. However, Harris never checked his source, and MD carried that news story on the main news page for several days. At this time, they are quickly deleting threads and articles, but this is pointless, as it will be cached for the world to find at anytime.
At this point, you have to wonder what is going through the minds of everyone involved. Both Lee Priest and Special Ed were dismissed rudely and publicly by MD. So both have that proverbial "ax to grind". Ron Harris may have relished the 'scoop' that comes with delivering a story first - but responsible journalists know that putting forth stories that can destory a reputation, as this one did, require evidence. He had none. No verification, no corroboration. Just a story from an anonymous screen name. Just a rumor.
Who is affected? Lee's wife Cathy was traumatized by the news, as were his many fans and friends. Lee has a daughter. How did she hear the news? Very troubling to say the least. Let's hope that in the end, justice is served, and that if Lee Priest's name was damaged beyond recovery by Ron Harris and MD, that he is promptly compensated for it.
Has Ron Harris even apologized yet?

He didn't know if the source was "in the know" or a 13-year old kid playing a prank.
Yet he published the story and called everyone in Lee's life to let them know about this horrible suicide attempt.

I think he said the info came from Lee's own email account, which would give him sufficient cover to have good-faith belief in the credibility of the source.

Another lady friend of Lee's has told me in a PM who this woman is, and that she moved out from Chicago to be with Lee. Lee was living with another woman. I have no idea what is really going on and this is why I won't comment further until I speak to Lee.

I swear to you, Goatboy. At the 2007 ASC, Ed and I sat around with Lee to the P for hours. He told us things that made me hold my ears and Ed blush about some of the TOP IFBB fitness/figure chicks.

Didn't Lee piss and moan about how he was going to sue the IFBB and that went nowhere. This too will go nowhere except some of you will run with it while all lawyers will tell Lee he has no case. Internet websites are protected by law with resect to publishing and MD is not liable and Harris will also not be liable. I'll bet anyone one of those supplements that Lee hawks on this - that it never goes to trial and that no setlltements are reached either

You don't have to be a movie star to be a public figure. And for the record-Lee is definitly a public figure, which BTW makes it very hard for him to sue anyone.
But, if he could prove that the bullshit rumor was intentional and the person acted with malice, then Lee woudl NOT have to prove any damages, because damages are presumed, because the rumor affected his public image which in turn affects his ability to earn a living, and that is Defamation Per Se.

I don't know... if you're a washed-up has-been that gets no press and no one is talking about you, and all of a sudden a rumor about you being dead gets your name out there and everyone's talking about you again, it might be tough to argue that the rumor "hurt" your career.
