Title: Why do you post on the Religion Board?
Post by: Butterbean on February 06, 2008, 07:03:34 AM
Do you feel you have a conscious motive(s) for posting here?

If so, what is it/are they?

I'm an evangelical Atheist, we can't rest until we have spread the Good News to all the nations ;)

No, seriously, I like a well-thought out argument. I enjoy discussing religion with loco.

But one thing that pisses me off is the appalling ignorance of science (no offense to anyone) that goes around on here. I feel like an exasperated science teacher at times.

But the reason I stick around is to talk religion, not science. I talk science elsewhere.

1.  To learn
2.  To challenge beliefs
3.  To see the difference between fact and faith

Why did you feel stabbed in the back ATHEIST?  And you may have already told us (sorry if I forgot) but what kind of religious school did you attend?  Was it a specific denomination?

Because my posts in other getbig boards kept getting moved to the General Topics board, until this board was created.    ;D

First I thought I would post here to teach others about the Bible and about Jesus, and to give a reason for the hope that is in me, but I ended up being thought a lot by others here.  I have learned a lot here from all, Christians, non-Christian theists and atheists alike.

Some atheists here know the Bible, sadly better than many Christians I know.  Other atheists here don't really know the Bible as much as they say they do, but they do post some interesting stuff they copy and paste from skeptic websites who do know the Bible.

Another reason I keep posting here is to dispel some misinformation and flat out lies about the Bible, Jesus and Christianity.  Some people post these to intentionally deceive others, while other people post these simply because they read it or heard it elsewhere and they just don't know any better.

Religion is necessary.

But I have to admit, I find that others literal belief in an organized religion's mythology still fascinates me.

As far as I know, young earth creationists, old earth creationists, Intelligent Design proponents, etc. are not lying about science.  They really believe their theories and hypothesis, even if main stream science disagrees and calls it pseudoscience.  Lying about science to push an agenda is not cool, by either creationists or evolutionists.

If you feel like they are lying, I leave it up to you to expose them.

Now, why don't you guys feel the same way when somebody here lies about the Bible, Jesus or Christianity, and you know they are lying?

Evolution is an established scientific fact. The Bible is a poorly told mass of cobbled together tales, largely fictional with some vague historical twist to it. There is a difference.

I'm crazy about God, and I want to share that with other people.  My greatest passion is to pray for those that I feel are hurting, hence the mindset and understanding of life and how it relates to God (negatively or positively).  I pray for this group the most (hope those of you who I debate against don't mind).  I'm thankful for all of those who are willing to come and share their hearts here.

MCWAY with his standard apologetics is about as convincing as a rock. He is getting schooled on all sides at a skeptic site even as I type this.

More like getting a hearty laugh!!! As I suspected all along, you invited me to that site, hoping the "safety-in-numbers" thing would hide the fact that you couldn't stand behind your claims here.

It's no different on that other site, as far as you're concerned. As for the guy on whom you primarily keep banking to perform this alleged "schooling", he has done little more than make a bunch of conspiracy theories and wild claims of forgery, with little to support his claims except for his anger-fueled, profane-laced stance of "The Christians made it all up" (or the stuff often found on atheist websites, such as "infidels.org").

There are some civil folks there, some of whom made some good points. Minimalist ain't one of them. Once you carve through all his cussing, it's easy to see why.

BTW, To Ozmo and Pole, the link in question is on his "Great Site on the Invented Town of Nazareth" thread.

You are the only one who thinks Minimalist is unconvincing. Oy Veder, the Rabbi has schooled you too and in a nice way. And you have yet to provide evidence why your magic book is better than other peoples' magic books.
